As others have said, it's a shame the bottom plate isn't natively ARCA. Allow the PD plate to be attached for CaptureClip, sure.... but just make the plate ARCA by itself!
We actually prototyped making the base plate itself ARCA Swiss compatible and it was huge (width-wise). Portions of the plate were extending too much off the front and back of the camera and it no longer looked integrated with the camera. Basically, we didn't want to penalize everyone to enforce ARCA compatibility. We wanted to have the base product look as clean as possible and have ARCA be optional.
Well done! I just backed your latest Kickstarter project for the Micro Clutch hand strap, and I think you have knocked it out of the park as social media is all over this. I think there is a function gap in what is available for small mirrorless cameras the other camera plate manufacturers are missing. Peak Design has hit the nail on the head (and at a great price point as well) with this product as attested to by the sheer volume of project backers.
Yeah, I’m not adding something to the bottom of my camera that isn’t arca. That’s just silly for my needs as a travel/landscape guy, now I’ve got to double my thickness vs just having a single l bracket
We've worked on some solutions for this. It might be possible to add the L-bracket functionality in the same way we did the capture/ARCA integration. The L-bracket really is a different product though. Micro Clutch, first and foremost, is a hand strap optimized for smaller mirrorless cameras. We didn't want to create an L-bracket with a hand strap just tacked on as the experience would be less than ideal, especially for anyone without need for an L-bracket, and not the streamlined outcome we were aiming for.
@@peakdesignvideo then this is worthless to a lot of people. L brackets never leave my cameras because I shoot vertical 90% of the time on gimbal and tripods.
@@JamesWilliams-in3py then don't buy it. just cause it's worthless to some doesn't mean it's worthless to all. it may be just the right product for a lot of people.
@@slickslabmcknabful why would I buy it when I clearly said it’s worthless to me with the current version? News flash: if a product doesn’t work for you you can tell a company why it doesn’t work and give feedback.
Unfortunately, this would have made the base plate too thick and wide to sit nicely on many mirrorless cameras. We prototyped this and the base plate protruded past the front and back of many cameras, so we decided having the ARCA/Capture plate as an add-on was the less cumbersome of the two solutions, even if it does add another piece.
@@peakdesignvideo perhaps I'm overestimating the size of the baseplate. It's not easy to judge from the video. Are we taking like RX100 sized cameras here then? Having thought about it more, I understand making one product to fit loads of different cameras will be tough given the variations in size and tripod screw locations.
Now if they could collab and bring PD’s organization together with ospreys pack back panels & suspensions to make the ultimate photographers backpacking bag… 2024 would be a great year indeed
Out of curiosity, what are the reasons the "I Plate" version wouldn't work as well on a camera with beefier grip? I mean ... I can just enlarge the clutch loop so that my fingers can reach further ... Right?
I started the video thinking that they were planning to make plates for various camera models/designs. That I could see crowdfunding being useful. But for two generic plates? That shouldn't be that difficult. But I could see the crowdfunding as a way to see who's interested and actually wants one. I really don't think they'd sell a lot of these to justify mass production of those plates.
Kickstarter, for the most part, hasn’t been a crowdfunding website for a while now. It’s a interest generating, risk-reduction website for already successful companies. No need to worry if your product will be successful if you’ve sold thousands of units without ever shipping a thing. Plus, built-in overhead.
Oh my God please sklp to 3:10-5:23 if you actually value your łime. I don’t know why they keep trying to fill in more sketch comedy with each campaign.
What do you recommend for Lumix GX8, G9, and G100. Are there lens weight limits? I have 9mm, 15mm, 12-35, 35-100, and 100-400mm, though I don’t see using these for my 100-400mm
Standard clutch fits the G9 FAR, far better than the L bracket Micro Clutch, the micro clutch is a little too snug and you can’t reach the front function buttons (no such issue’s whilst using the standard clutch). Use the I micro clutch for the GX8 & G100.
I lost my clip on a trip after it came loose from my backpack strap, a friend suggested using the hex drive long bolts, but the suggestion came too late, I love the brand but I'm thinking of ordering something new because of this experience.
Love the idea! I wish there were a way to make this compatible with extended base plates (a la SmallRig or Meike). Keep up with the great work and even greater ideas!
Ok, I was really watching to expect to be disappointed at the battery access issues I saw from looking at the email photos this am, but should have known you had it sorted. I think you need to show that tool a bit more in your emails. The only mention of it is in the info graphic of the parts. Show the little tool going in or out in one of the images. Looks great, can't wait to see it action! Still hoping for a peak design double strap.
I love you guys for the sustainability and quality but can't afford your products. I already know this is gonna be 3 times more than the one I'm already using. I like it, and love you guys tho!
your sneak "peak" did have a zoom in on fingers and i didn't really see this clutch at all. since the camera shrunk in half and finger didn't change. can we do something with anchor? lighter short or make it longer to act as finger ring and anchor. i'm bit sadden by the base plate but i want a micro clutch.... can you do a anchor adoptor version too?
Will there be an option to get both baseplates? this because some cameras (i.e. the X-E4) that don't have any sort of front grip but you can attach one. Or will the I shaped base plate still work if I attach a front grip to the camera?
Does any one know if the Micro Clutch can be used with an AE-1? I know this was marketed towards mirrorless, but my some mirrorless are around the same size as an AE-1 and I'm curious if it'd work on a film camera.
L bracket....totally read my mind.....offer this too as a variant. I use the travel tripod a lot and having a very light weight, low profile L bracket, designed with PEAK 'Cleverness' would be fantastic! :)
Damn, really want it. But having to take it off to change battery will be annoying. Would’ve been a good trade off if the plate itself is arca swiss compatible without any add-ons just to keep the small form factor. Hope this will be updated in future versions
Unfortunately, making the base plate itself ARCA Swiss compatible made the whole assembly much wider and more cumbersome, as it stuck past the front and back edges of many cameras. So after that prototype we decided having the Capture and ARCA-compatible plate as an add-on was the more streamlined solution, even if it requires a second part.
Bought "One" pd product once and never stop checking out pd products ever.... guess this is one for me next too as the clutch do not work well for my mirrorless cam vs DSLR....
Will the strap "stretch" a longer medium/large strap option?..and or is it long enough lets say if you still choose to put this as an option with your Sony A7 series camera with a battery grip for the one hand option..while walking around etc..for that added security of you not dropping said camera?
I wish PD made something for my A7III with battery grip. I have the Cuff wrist strap but I never use it because it is designed for a small camera, just like this product.
I like the idea but i feel the battery accessibility will have too much an negative impact for me shooting wedding and sometimes needing to change them very quickly.
This one is just the Micro Clutch because we've got some bigger projects on the horizon, but the rewards packages and add-ons include discounts on other products!
