I’m very new to Tacoma actually I just purchased one. What do you think about that option since you are towing with yours for so long. Any help it will be very appreciated.
@@brutus2615 that’s what I heard too. You should also have a transmission temperature monitor. I just towed a 3800 lb TT with my 2016 and I noticed on flat highway I think I should have put the truck in D. For hills or stop and go S4. Just my opinion
brutus2615 S4 is a good gear to use because you are making better power, the trans will be shifting less and you engine will be not be under as heavy a load then if you were you try to pull at a lower RPM, also your water pump will be spinning faster. It’s a good idea to keep your speed low so that your RPMs aren’t super high, 55-60mph is a good speed and use common sense, your engine should be spinning around 2200-2600rpms comfortably. You’ll also get better fuel economy this way.

@@Joe-cu4hi actually 6400lbs, with a cargo capacity of 1155 lbs. and hitch weight of 640 lbs. Add up passenger's, fuel, hitch wgt. of trailer. If your over the CC, you shouldn't tow.

DIY & MORE, May i suggest looking into the Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems? Leaf-spring helpers will do the trick but will stiffen the ride when not towing and make it unpleasant. The Timbren are there when you need the extra support but don’t change the ride quality when not towing. Also research how big a tire and rim you want to go with because that can also change the dynamics of your Taco in a negative way, plus reduce your mpg

Timbrens are installed above your axels on both sides to absorb the weight of your trailer when you hook it up and tow. Helps immensely. Google them. Great video, thanks.
@@rockymtncampergirl641 i will look into it. so far its been ok with the weight distribution bar, i have it on nearly max setting. my truck rear shocks though are too soft because its a trd offroad. i want to replace those with stiffer ones. i like stiffer rides. Thank you glad u liked it.
If you are experiencing sag and your rear suspension is questionable, get either Tiberins or Sumo Springs. They replace your bump stops and make a large difference in the stability and sway reduction of your rear end and suspension. They work very well and aren’t super expensive.
I have Sumo springs on my 2019 TRD Offroad. I occasionally tow a 3000 lb camper and use a weight distributing hitch. The Sumo springs (or Timbren and similar) are not a substitute for a weight distributing hitch, and vice versa. Sumo springs prevent sag when I load the bed heavily, but that extra weight is still primarily on the rear suspension. A weight distributing hitch actually distributes a portion of the tongue weight back to the trailer axle and forward to the tow vehicle's front axle. It does level the tow vehicle and trailer, but that is just a result of the primary purpose of redistributing the weight.
I'm pulling a 6x12 cargo trailer with a total load of about 1500 pounds and I noticed if I go faster than 65 my trucks vibration gets worse. Anyone else have this issue?
Have you resolved this issue at all? Perhaps sway-bars or better load-balancing hitch? I'm looking at purchasing a similarly-sized trailer in the range of 5x8 to 6x10. Ensure that you're running only in S4+ECT as the manual instructs, too.
My 2020 Tacoma got about 15mpg pulling a single axle approximately 5x10 trailer with about 300lbs, ECT power mode on I 95 south Florida, on State roads not in ECT power, same trailer, similar load, about 18mpg, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED with the 2020 Toyota Tacoma trd 4x4, REGRET buying it, and if I could get my 💰 OUT of it would probably NOT hesitate too UNLOAD it, or get rid of it, it is in my view NOT a very capable truck, not fuel efficient, sensors are far too sensitive to dust or dirt too maintain good useability, 4wd performance is maybe fair, I'm trying to be generous, its also NOT VERY durable as its forebears were TOYOTA TACOMA? Probably NOT Again

@@Joe-cu4hi actually 6400lbs, with a cargo capacity of 1155 lbs. and hitch weight of 640 lbs. Add up passenger's, fuel, hitch wgt. of trailer. If your over the CC, you shouldn't tow.
Did you do anything to the rear suspension, i.e., air bags or is the level ride achieved just with the equalizer hitch?
just the weight distribution hitch so far. its been good. eventually i want to lift my truck and add bigger tires. so i plan to add one more stiff leaf to stiffen up my rear little more. also get a hitch locking bracket. it's very important to get rid of any play at the hitch.
Thanks for this. Which weight distribution set up do you have?
I have the husky centerline 5000lbs I think
I have the same truck as you do, I am thanking about also getting the same trailer. do you still like this setup? have had any problems? thanks was just wondering.
@@alamray ok thanks for the reply!!!! that helps.
Im curious to what the reply was. I am considering getting a trailer about the same size. Any thoughts? for what ever reason i cant see reply to your question. thanks!! Very informative video. I drive same truck!
@@cashmiller2999 I just bought a new starcraft satellite it is the same size as the micro mini just 1000 pounds lighter, and has a slide out! the tacoma pulls it just great! no problem at all and no swaying down the road at 70mph.
He gave his loaded trailer weight.
Nice trailer! How does it classify as micro mini given the size?
I have a 16 Tacoma trd off road 4x4. I towed about 3800 lbs with it. If I was towing short trips 50-100 miles maybe 5 times a year, the Tacoma would be ok. But if you tow that weight more than that Tacoma isn’t the right truck. It certainly isn’t a good truck to tow with.... sorry, and I’m a Toyota fan boy
I now have a silverado and never looking back. If u like to own a taco, it will do the job. But it won't do it perfectly. U have to be patient.
I just want to confirm. You aren’t using 4WD when towing on highway roads correct?
Oscar Esquivel of course not.
I’m averaging 13.9 hauling a 21’ center console boat on flat terrain in FL.
Turbocharged it, makes a huge difference
2WD or 4WD?
It said 4x4 on the side of the tacoma is its 4 wheel drive
You Should only be towing that much weight as the owners manual says in 4th gear with ect on!! not 5th or 6th, that transmission is very expensive to replace!! pete.
peter white , you are correct, but the truck only went on D (5/6th) during downhills where the transmission is basically just coasting and I didn’t need any engine brake. The drag was enough brake. Thank u
@@alamray i understand what your saying about downhill,i would still leave it in 4th with ect the rpms are fine at 55 to 60 your engine and transmission are designed to be in 4th gear with ect, when towing ,you should not be towing that much weight much over 60mph. i have the 2.7 four cylinder tacoma and i pull only 3000lbs easily up and down mountains at 60 mph, in 4th with ect,i also installed an transmission cooler. pete.
peter white I agree you are right
Great vid
Tandem axle is the way to go!
Did you have tacoma timbrens installed before towing to eliminate the sag when towing?
i dont know what timbrens is, i have a weight distribution hitch
That’s a sweet setup
Nice trailer
Not bad at all
Do a 0-70 with load
What's the rear tire pressure?
Do you have a aftermarket brake controller or have a brake controller already installed?
I'm pulling a 6x12 cargo trailer with a total load of about 1500 pounds and I noticed if I go faster than 65 my trucks vibration gets worse. Anyone else have this issue?
Have you resolved this issue at all? Perhaps sway-bars or better load-balancing hitch? I'm looking at purchasing a similarly-sized trailer in the range of 5x8 to 6x10. Ensure that you're running only in S4+ECT as the manual instructs, too.
Why are you going so slow ?
Still looks a bit too big...not great mileage.
