John cared about us Veterans, in this country there needs to be less worship of us Veterans and more care for our problems. Thank you for this, brings back some good and bad memories.
I am so grateful for this wonderful coverage of the life of John Prine who is probably my favorite songwriter and musician. He was an amazing artist from a young age until his death but he will always be immortal .
In 1978 I was 21 and a Dustoff flight medic at Nellingen Barracks Kaserne, W. Germany when Bruised Orange came out. I'd been introduced to John Prine's early albums by my buddies and we were all big fans. As we checked out the album cover and back photo we remarked in unison "No Waaayyy!" The photo of John performing for his Army buddies looked like it was taken in the 2-man room in which we were gathered. The lockers, heater, and window styles were the same. We debated if our room was where the photo had been taken. There were scores of barracks all over Germany but Nellingen was unique. All of the 100 or so company buildings were carbon copies, so we deduced that the photo had been taken somewhere on our Kaserne. We enjoyed Bruised Orange repeatedly that weekend as we taped TDK SA cassette copies for everyone. As you were, Pvt. Prine.
Great job on this and the Dylan video! Thanks for taking the time to do the research and adding all the little details with the pictures and videos that are usually left out, especially about his military service. Kris Kristofferson also served, he flew helicopters in the Army in Germany which is probably why he and John hit it off right away. Johny Cash also served in the Air Force for 4 years. Keep up the great work!
@ You’re welcome, I just found your channel and started watching, you’ve got lots of great stuff, have you done one on Townes Van Zandt yet? I’d love to learn more about his background.
His last song (I think), "Summers End" always chokes me up even though I've heard it a hundred times. On the other hand, songs like "Ain't Hurtin' Nobody" and "In Spite of Ourselves" always make me smile!
the simplicity and impact of his writing was incredible. Prine's songs were what the other more successful songwriters wished they could come up with. he at least knew he was loved, rather than a posthumous success, which always struck me as disingenuous- a co-opting of a rebel to the mainstream. he was always a voice of dissent of mainstream indifference, like a true folk-artist.
Your right it was to real for radio, in 50 yrs things haven't changed radio stil sucks, for the most part. Thanks for doing this song.🎉❤

We’ve got a short about him but nothing long form yet! Definitely on the list though! ✌🏻
