This video is about how to install a fuel pump assembly E8688M in a 2006 - 2013 BMW 325i 328i 330i 335i E46 E90. Airtex is the only U.S. automotive aftermarket manufacturer that designs and builds electrical AND mechanical fuel delivery system components, including modular reservoir assemblies, electric fuel pumps, mechanical fuel pumps and in-tank sender and hanger assemblies, for a full range of car, truck, fleet and specialty vehicles.
This removal was easy but the challenging part for me was the install of The Locking Ring. Be aware of the alignment of the pump with the tab. I did not and it leaked. Have a friend hold down pump while you ensure the Locking Ring is perfectly in place.
Make sure to drive and test with the seat off to ensure no leaks. Recommend for newbies like me that you have a second pair of hands for install.
I used small vice grip needle nose on the last fuel fitting just to hold the thing in then used a pick to pry at the base. Super easy and not broken.
Want to tell the guy making the video that he's awesome and very thorough and also that I can understand what he says clearly and I'm a girl and I comprehended how the instructions very directly on how to install my own pump thank you

I found it easier to remove the fule line by hand with out braking it.

It's actually a pretty safe area to have a fuel tank.
Think about it, would you rather have the tank under the boot when you get badly rear ended?.. no I didn't think so.
Honestly the screwdriver and Hammer trick worked way better for me than the spanner
@@NorthstarLocksmiths problem with that is a sparking possibility, but you can probably wrap the screw driver in some ESD tape (or something thick) to avoid sparks.

Does fuel need to be added to the module canister (reservoir) before closing? Also, what minimum level of fuel needs to be added to check if it works?
The reservoir can be installed dry. 2-3 gallons of fuel should be sufficient for testing.

@@alexnasiadka5140 To properly clean the tank it will need to be empty. Otherwise the contaminants can be suspended in the fuel.

My gas level gauge is stuck at 3/4 all the time (probably fuel sensor lever is bad). If fuel is very low, will the light in instrument cluster light up?

@@diljotsingh824 Does it try to crank at all or do nothing when you try to start it? Also do you ever remember it cranking slow when trying to start recently? These are the symptoms I had before my starter went out. You can find genuine bosche oem starters on ebay for pretty cheap.
@@diljotsingh824 if it doesn’t start or crank at all, stop wasting money it’s going to be a endless money Pitt. Take it to a shop and have them run diagnostics and they will tell u the fault

What's the model number for this particular fuel pump assembly? I have a 2011 328i X-drive and I ordered a pump with a different connector. This pump is exactly the same one that i need.

What if it's not the fuel pump? The suction pump has a pin hole in it at the top of the pump.
Diagnostic testing should determine if the pump is good or has failed.
bmw has had this pump desigb for a long time, you get inside a jaguar and you have to drop the pump in most of them, same for most cars honestly. i dont see why they all car manufacturers woukd just do a design like this

Unfortunately we do not have a video for the BMW X3 fuel pump.
Can out provide the top 5 gauges and model numners and/or Amazon links we can purchase this tool to relieve the fuel pressure by the engine. 30second mark in your video.

Where do the transfer lines go?
If unplugging all electrical connection why's is there a need to disconnect the battery. Is battery registration needed after the reconnection of the negative cable.
Disconnecting the negative side of the battery removes any chance of a spark when working with the fuel pumps electrical connectors. Yes, the pump will be unplugged. With the battery disconnected there is no way the pump can have any form of power to create a spark.

Since you are not replacing the battery it will be fine. The object of registering a battery informs the car that a new battery has been installed and it will adjust the charging parameters accordingly.

There is 2 Pumps this video is for main pump....what about changing the 2nd Pump?
We do not manufacture the second pump. The installation will be similar other than you will need to fish the fuel lines from to one side to the other. I would recommend tying fuel resistant line, possibly a flexible wire, to the existing lines and pull that through to the secondary pumps side. Once the new secondary pump is ready to be lowered in use the wire to pull the new lines back through to the primary pump side.

@@theOquendos Both are referred to as fuel pumps. My recommendation would be to contact your local dealer for a part number. you may be able to cross reference it.
The part on the opposite side of the car is the Fuel Pressure Regulator/Filter Assembly. There is also a High Pressure Fuel Pump in the engine bay.

The fuel filters are part of the fuel pump module. These are non-serviceable parts.

Yes - Passenger side is the fuel pump - Drivers side is the Fuel Regulator. If you do one, do them both. 😊
does anyone know which sensor is sensor 1 either left or right? on the bmw 528i.
