Very well done. Interesting use of the technology once thought was only a Holiday production tool. It was hard to detect, but did the strike start from the upper branch and cascade down or was it just an illusion because of the speed of the triggering. I thought the strand of lights was just a single channel (regular strand) of led xmas lights. (i am old enough to actually have owned both color organs showed) Thankx
It's just an optical illusion. Single channel on the LOR controller. Conventional 120v AC led mini-lights from Walmart. The flickering was the LOR controller varying the intensity every 1/20th second. I could have used a downward "cascade fill" if I were using RGB pixels. That's what Disney uses in their Villan's Grove Trail. But IMHO, the effect is too slow. Mine looks more like actual lightning. My technique is also $300 cheaper and much easier than pixels.
Thanks for the prompt response. If i could go frame by frame on you tube i would have seen it. but alas i had to bother you. also what was the timing on the bottom spots in the program. with that setup how precise can you trigger an event? and lastly (for now) do they use SMPTE time code or just min seconds. Thanks again Dan@@doktorscottdiabolical
I don't know the timing of the spotlights. I think about 3/10th sec per flash? For the lightning bolt, I used a mixture of 100% on/off and the "shimmer" effect in LOR S3. All LOR sequences are timed in fractional min/sec with either a fixed or adjustable timing grid based on the music you use.
Thank you so much for creating this awesome effect! I am going to use it for my yard demonstration this year along with a wider Frankenstein theme. I'm hoping you might be willing to share your light-O-Rama script or at least the timings you used? I don't mean to sound lazy, but I'm a brand new dad who has a very limited amount of time to decorate this year (with my wife watching our baby). It would be a huge help to not have to try and figure out the programming through trial and error. Again, you are awesome. This video has been the inspiration for my whole theme this year!
Thanks. I'm still very new to the most recent LOR S6 software. So, not that great with it either. But I think I used 1/10th second or shorter intervals. About 3/10ths of a second total time is usually enough, but it depends on your sound file. I'm building the successor to this effect right now. So I'll try to work everything out and maybe share my sequences in the future. Sorry it won't be this week. Please let me know how yours turns out.
Brilliant idea, just the thing i was looking for to seperate myself from the other neighbors . Any tips for creating the sequence ? I also have a L.O.R. THANKS.
If you have the VU wizard in your LOR software, try starting there. Then just work with your intensities using very short timing blocks to get the flicker right.
Great job...Don't know if my 70 yr. ole mind is up to it but will try it anyway.. Thanks... Keep well my friend...From The Country For North Carolina...
Not yet. At least, not at a price that someone could afford. But I know what you're asking for. If I can find a way to build an affordable pre-programmable controller for AC led lights, I'll consider it. I'm already working on a much better lightning effect for next year.
@@doktorscottdiabolical I just purchased the light-o-rama kit you have. Would you be willing to share your sequence for the lightning effect? I am not sure I'll have much time to mess with this after shipping before halloween, but would love to have it up in time.
I don't have ANY of this as a preexisting, owned item, or software. Could you be so generous as to give me a list of parts and products to buy so I can make this? (I am sure other people will use this list if you provide it, lol)
No problem! I'm already working on the successor to this effect that will use similar parts (assuming it works). I think it makes sense to create a deep-dive video just covering the parts lists, what/where to buy, and how to set up the software & create the sequence. It may be a few weeks until I have something posted (I have a day job). But if you do the "subscribe/bell" thing, RUclips will let you know when I post it.
I have added a parts list in the Description above. Sorry I haven't been able to create another video. Got very sick a few weeks ago. Still working on the updated lightning effect.
Ah, Radio Shack..... Those were the days! 😅
im so glad im not alone in being old, but hey bro we got to see star wars in the theater lol
we truly had the last best generation
Oh man, you really nailed it! Great work. Thanks for creating and sharing.
Thanks for posting. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this tutorial.

Here's the new and improved effect: ruclips.net/video/6YPLzOvT_lg/видео.html
So amazing! I doubt if Dr. Evil could do what you do, haha, you're the bomb!

I hesitate to use the word but this is BRILLIANT!
I’m not very tech savvy , is there anyway you could make a preprogram kit and lights and sale me one?
