I can’t really decide if that’s true or not, Amity was an absolute mess before she met Luz, the talk with Emira sort of implies she hasn’t been happy seen since she left Willow which clearly isn’t very functional. Luz on the other side of the coin was unwilling to talk things out about her father for a long time with anyone besides her mother, Amity is the only other person she trusts with that. They aren’t dependant on each other but they do improve each other pretty dramatically.

btw I headcanon that there is no such thing as homophobia in the Boiling Isles, so in this animatic their "no more hiding how we feel anymore" is due to Odalia and Alador (but MOSTLY Odalia) not wanting Amity to be in a relationship with Luz (bc Luz is a human).
Dana Terrace actually confirmed there is no homophobia in the Boiling Isles. She wanted to create a world where everyone didn't have to hide who they are. :)
