  • In the wild, Scindapsus pictus will actually start to shingle. But in the home, it will likely just be used as a beautiful hanging basket plant. This particular cultivar that I have is known as 'Silvery Anne' for its predominantly silver foliage.
I've found that it can grow in a range of lighting conditions and can handle a range of watering conditions as well. It's better than the Epipremnum aureum at neglect, I think largely for its thicker, more robust leaves. In this video, I'll go over more care tips including propagation, fertilizing, and more.
You can check out more of these videos here and on my IGTV @homesteadbrooklyn.

Lucky you! I love this plant and wanted to have this cultivar for some years now. Sad that here in Indonesia they don't sell Silvery Ann and overall Scindapsus is quite expensive here, 2-3 leaves plant can cost 10-15 dollars at least!

Not surprising that it handles extremes in light well. The structural variegation in leaves is from air pockets formed between two cell layers in the leaf causing light to scatter, then hit neighboring chloroplasts. This same mechanism can also scatter strong excess light back into the environment allowing the plant to continue effective and consistent photosynthesis. Conversely, in low light, the light scattering effects of these air pockets give the light a better chance to hit photosynthetic cells. It also helps protect against burning when water levels are low. So they are basically super plants ❤️ my favorite plant for sure.

I was given a cutting and I've had a hard time rooting it. I finally got it to root, potted it and ugh it is growing so slowly. I got a green house in my living room, I bottom water and it gets morning sun plus I do give it humidity in my green house. Soooo it is getting plenty of sun, I fertalize when it needs to be watered. Being it gets humidity it doesn't dry quickly. The only dirt and fertalizer I can get in my town is miracle grow plus I mix peralite. Since putting it in the green house I've seen some new growth so I'm crossing my fingers. I have read that this is easy to grow but I have not had the same experience. Oh my pot is small because I don't have a lot of plant to fill it, it's 90% glazed clay pot so the bottom, top and inside of the pot is bare. I am able to bottom water to encourage root growth.

@ally chatham In Fort Worth, I had SO much trouble finding common plants. I’ve discovered that consumerism in the DFW area is off the charts. I live in NYC like you. First floor with bright light coming into a south facing window for like 30 mins a day in winter. YIKES I know, so I have LED grow lights and after watering this little one 5 days out, the soil dries up and the leaves start to curl! Does that mean it definitely is utilizing the LED lights + filtered window light and just needs more water? Or is leave curling okay?

Curling comes from lack of moisture. It may be underwatering or your air may be dry. Increase the humidity in the room and mist plants daily. They love a rainforest environment.

From my understanding curling leaves means the plant is dehydrated. I’m not sure your exact plant conditions, but if it’s not under watering, I would maybe check the roots for signs of rot.
