DIY. samsung washer filter cleaning.
Thanks! My washer is working again! My filter was 98% clogged! Even found a guitar pick in there.
Lol
Drain the water first. There is usually a small hose in there, take off the cap to the hose and drain it into a bowl. After second review of this video, you can see the white cap to the hose above the drain he removed. The cap of the hose is a little hard to take off but it will, and you will have less of a mess.
Thank you! You saved me a lot of frustration by telling me about that hose!!!
Thanks that helped a LOT!
it's so hard to take of the cap, I tried to pull it with no avail.....
@@Piper_PA that's the one of the worst design ever.... I took the cap off and drained all water out but once I open the filter the water still ran out and I have to wipe the floor.....
@@Piper_PA i did remove the cap of the small hose and drained the water, but water still spilled out once I unscrewed the filter......
Thanks so much!! Its nice when a serious problem has an EASY answer. I see the comment about the drain hose. I DID start using the drain hose, but I must admit that like you, I didn't have the patience to bail out the water one slow 32 oz cup at a time. After like four cups full, I just put down towels and opened the thing up. What else is dirty laundry good for if not mopping up spilled water. Anyway...the filter was NASTY. There was gunk and actual STUFF in there like plastic wrappers, etc. I pulled the stuff out and then rinsed the remaining gunk out with a garden hose and it looks good to go.
Thanks for taking the time to create a quick video. We have 3 Dogs, Tons of hair in our filter - I appreciate the comments that pointed out the drain hose 1st step, but I really liked the comment that said, something along the line, skip the drain hose, use towels to mop up the mess, you are right there to put the wet towels into the washer.
I added this to my monthly laundry room tasks, #1 vacuum out dryer lint under the lint filter. Friend had a dryer fire - I do a deep clean on the lint monthly. now I will be add #2 cleaning this pump filter monthly.
Also make sure you have the filter screwed all the way in. When the anti-shear handle starts skipping, it’s not all the way in. There a little square notch you have to line the handle up with to get the extra couple turns. Thank you Samsung for way overcomplicating a plastic handle.
What happens if the filter wont come out? It makes a clicking noise when we try to unscrew it.
I used a screwdriver to assist it out.
@@danzurcher7331 thanks i ended up getting it out. I guess i wasnt pushing it in hard enough, it took two hands for me to push and turn it but i got it. It was completely clogged with dog hair but its clear now and everything working as normal.
Mine just keeps spinning non stop when I go to screw it in
Thank you for this. I had water still leaking after we screwed it in and assumed that anti-shear clicking meant it was seated properly
THANK YOU! I got a dreaded ND error code last night and freaked out. After research I found your video. I didnt even know there was a filter down there. I just thought it was how you drained the unit and have never touched it. Problem fixed now after removal of lots of perler beads and hay! (we have guinea pigs, LOL)
My new home required many new tools and had new appliances. As a senior I apprciate videos like this because instruction booklets and manuals can be confusing--and inaccurate. Thanks for posting.
Thank you! Your video helped save us from an expensive service call! A clogged filter was our problem and your clear, and concise video helped me resolve the problem!
Glad I was able to help.
My washer was having draining issues that left my clothes very wet post wash, which in turn caused issues with my dryer. I didn't even know about the filter! This video completely fixed my issue. Thanks so much!!!
Thanks for sharing. Glad I was able to help.
Thank you, so much! My sister’s washer wasn’t working. She was getting ready to call someone out to look at it. We found your video and pulled several of her infant daughter’s SOCKS out of the filter! No repairman needed!
Glad I could help you.
Waterproof grease. I learned something new to do. Awesome, thank you!
Me too!
Thank you 👍 you just saved me a few hundred bucks!
Thanks so much for mentioning the waterproof grease! I used some plumber's silicone grease and it helped so much!
Thank you for the video. I've had my washer for 3 years and I've never cleaned it before. I will upload a video this weekend.
Thank you. I had been getting the error message for a while but was able to get it working until today. 5 minute fix and it’s running again!
Glad it helped
Thank you for this!! Had to do this myself since my fiance kept dragging his feet to do this
That may be a red flag 🚩
Are you willing to pick up the slack every time he doesn’t want to do something? It’s something to consider.
Thank you 🙌 my washing machine kept stopping and saying sud in the middle of the wash so I did as the video said and it's working perfect now
So that's why mine would say SUD in the middle of the cycle.

YOU ARE AWESOME! I had no idea about that little door! You saved me money! Thanks!
I wanted to add my experience. We were receiving 5E message and the wash cycle was leaving water in the drum. I used the black tube to drain the water into a trash bag. It took 15min and smelled bad. Take your time. Then I removed the drain cover and pulled out the filter. There was a big piece of cloth obstructing it. I removed that and some hair. I noticed that more water had come out and was leaking on the floor that I hadn’t noticed, even after replacing the cap. I quickly turned on a spin cycle which began with an automatic drain. That stopped the water leak because the pump was now unblocked. Now everything seems to be fine. I hope this helps!
w d thank you so much for this comment! Mine started leaking too & I was so worried until I read your comment. The leak has stopped & all is good 👍🏼
The grease was key!!!!
I tried to clean this and re assemble and it still leaked🤦♂️
Watched this video... added waterproof marine grease add it WORKED🤗
YAY!!!
Phillip Crook The grease is absolutely essential. What a shitty design by Samsung! I put the filter back on and carried on with my other tasks and it caused a bloody flooding in the basement! Cost me over $2,000 to fix
I cant get my filter out. It just clicks ive tried turning it counter clockwise and it just clicks like a medicine bottle cap please helllllp lol--- **update**
i figured it out i just had to push in really hard while turning it counterclockwise and that got it... **
I think you need to push while turning counterclock wise... Like an asperin bottle, (child prove).... Try this
Omg thank you. I had been turning forever and it kept clicking.
@@danielmartinez432 mine just will not move.... Period ... No clicking, just 0 movement... It's stuck and it's making me VERY frustrated!!
@@sarahcards Hi, try to grab some plyers or tools from the garage and push inside with a lot of strength. Hopefully that works.
@@danielmartinez432 I figured it out!!! It's not a safety lock one, the filter looks exactly like his, with the big cluncky knob, but I stuck what looked like a giant flathead (but slightly angled?) Screwdriver thing into one of the holes and turned it until it sort of stuck, then I was able to turn it with relative ease!!!
Great video, the only one I found that showed the "child proof" version of this filter - thank you, thank you, thank you !
Quick question, can I get rid of this child proof version and install a regular filter?
Thank you again !
Thank you- just what I needed to see done to give me confidence to do myself!
When screwing the filter back in, be sure you line up the little square notch in the filter with the little grey plastic tab in the filter compartment. Other wise it may not close properly and you’ll have a flood(as just happened to me).
If you'd reupload that video and show how to safely drain the machine and how to find the actual needed O-ring type so owners could buy it for themselves I'd give it a like.
I will work on it.
Very helpful…thank you. When I pulled out the filter, I found two pieces of fabric stuck in it. It appears to be part of the machine but I can’t figure out where it’s from or where it goes. Can you help?
Thank you 🙏🏼. Sir. I love You Tube DIY 💪🏽
That little black hose next to the cap is to drain water before opening the cap.
You should read the instructions. There is a drain hose that allows for draining that chamber first.
my mom enjoyed this video you helped cure her whole life problem
She should definitely subscribe ;)
Yooooooo thanks. My washer wasn’t working and is showing an SC error. Turns out my filter is 99% blocked lol.
What about if the fabric softener not draining out of reservoir. My lady said it like the clothes are coming out not soft feeling but like rough feeling and clothes starting to get holes in garments ? What would cause that?
How do you open the filter? Do you press down or press up? I can't open this thing.
I have a front load. I cleaned the filter, but the hot water filter would not go all the way in. Cold water filter pushed all the way in. I screwed the hose on and it seams to be working. Is it going to be ok or did I ruin it? Neither came out easily. Was the filter supposed to be dry before I put it back in? I read it both ways in different places.I dried the outside, but did not allow the inside to dry completely.
So if you read the manual, it says your supposed to drain the line first. That's the hose above the filter. That way you don't have as much water come out when you pull the filter.
Ok.. But how did you open it with ease!! It takes me a while for it open I keep hearing a popping sound when I try open it
Force it forward and turn at the same time
Sooo I drained the water, took the cap out, cleaned it, but there is some kind of long fabric piece that is in the drain that I think maybe doesn't belong. (Washer dryer came with house) I just moved in this October...I am afraid to pull too hard on this piece of fabric.
What should I do if it only makes clicking sounds when I turn it? I can't seem to get the filter out.
Thanks brother i owe you my life
You're supposed to drain it into a shallow dish using the little black hose first. That stops the "two cups of water" from spilling out all over your floor when you remove the filter.
Yes . Thank you for information.
Not for me. I drain the hose and still get 2 or more cups everytime. Eww it stinks
@@heatherguajardo4795 it smells so bad 🥴
You helped me fix my washer 😁 TY!
When I started to take the filter out a TON of water started to come out. So I stopped and it soaked an entire beach towel. Do I have to stop something or should I be able to just open the filter whenever
You can use the hose near the filter to drain remaining water and then take the filter out.
That was way MOREEEEE than a little thanks for the fun
You are welcome.
I cleaned my filter for the first time, but I didn’t know about the little hose, so water spilled everywhere. is it dangerous to plug in and use my washing machine again?
So mine is now leaking, what did I do wrong? Mine was the super clicks one hard to get out?
take it out again and inspect rubber O-ring
Remove filter again and make sure when you put it back that O ring is in the right place.
what is the 0 ring?
Vandana Sundaram
An O-ring, also known as a packing, or a toric joint, is a mechanical gasket in the shape of a torus; it is a loop of elastomer with a round cross-section, designed to be seated in a groove and compressed during assembly between two or more parts, creating a seal at the interface.
Other words it is round rubber gasket .
Mine clicks when turning, and won’t come out🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Perfect! Thank you, Handy Man!
Pinch push in while twisting counterclockwise. YOU ARE WELCOME
Hello. The filter isn’t unscrewing off. How can I unscrew it?
Hello. You can try to unscrew it with Channellock Pliers (amzn.to/2EY6Cuc). But usually, you should be able to unscrew it with bare hands. Be careful using any tools because you may break the filter.
If it is making a clicking noise, then you have a safety filter. You have to push in really hard and then turn like opening a medicine bottle.
@@dazedexpression8039 Thank YOU! I was racking my brain trying to figure it out. Turns out child safety stuff works on adults too! Or maybe I'm just dumb.
@@dazedexpression8039 i pushed in really hard and ripped the skin off my fingers this thing isnt moving!
@@ronaldludwig459 I hope you got it. After it's been removed once, it's easier next time. I think I had to use vice grips the first time. Being careful not to squeeze in on the center and crack it but having something to push in on better while turning. Seems like a bad design really.
Filter?
Damn,. I'm gonna need me a hazmat suit...
Worked like a charm! Thank you!!!
Hi, cleaned out my filter as instructed, replaced it, closed the little door, started a washing cycle, and water now keeps pouring out through the filter I just put back in Took it out again, and put it back in, thinking maybe it wasn't firmly in there, but still, water continues to flow out when starting the cycle...??? Any suggestions welcome!
You need to make sure that the o-ring is sitting there correctly. You might apply some lubricant
Thanks!
You are awesome! Thank you so much
Help! I opened up my filter to find a missing ring and it fell in that hole beneath the filter! What should I do? Also my filter isn’t closing back
I had to take the whole drain system out, which got the filter unstuck, and I got the any debris out. I put the filter back in, and it started leaking water from the bottom of the thread. Now, I can't get the filter back out, the knob just turns. What is my neck step.
I'm just frustated.
Most likely your O ring is not sitting properly. Try to pull on the knob while unscrewing it .
This happened to me too. The knob just turns and it's hard to get it to screw in. I finally did and had water leakage for the first time ever. I took it and put it back in several times with the arrow pointing up. Seems OK now....
And someone also told me it could be the valve,i really dnt know what i can do to get the water coming in and to clean it too, soap scum is clogged up where the soap goes;what i can do to help myself?
Help please!!! I cleaned out the washer filter just as you show in your video here. Put the filter back in and now the washer won't run. I have verified the filter is in correctly but it won't run because the door open symbol on the light board show open. The door of the washer is definitely closed and the filter is definitely on tight. What the heck is going on???
Unrelated but , I would check switch on the door latch
My problem is the drain black hose rubber itself retracted inside how will you retrieve it, please advice what to do. Thanks
Click Couple Traveler ya he didn’t use the hose in the video which would have stopped 90% of the water leaking. if you never touched it will be along top ridge after opening the door.
The access door to mine is so cheaply made that it broke the first time I opened it. I drained the hose first, but when I took out the filter, huge amount of water gushed all over the floor. What a mess.
cindy pattana me 2...Lord a big mess it scared me, it's on the Second floor
Use the hose under door to drain it first. This guy doesn't know what he is doing.
Mr Dumb, He explained correctly as i used to sell appliances 🤷♀️
Sincerely,
Ms. Not So Dumb
I cant seem to twist the thing back on it gets loose
Very good demo
Where can I get the specific hose for this filter hole
Thank you sir
All the best
What happens if the filter wont come out?
Thanks but you need first to drain the ater. And also be gentle when doing such job, you casued the door to drop apart !!!
Thank you very much great it is fixed now.
Clean the hole the filter comes out of. There is gunky film in the there too.
Every tip I’ve seen shows to clean and then push and twist till locks in place no grease
How did you open yours so easily 😰 mine won't budge!! Not one way or the other!! I never knew this, and I just tried it but I can't open it! Idk if the owners before us put it on too tight or what but it will not move and idk what to do!!
Sometimes it does get pretty tight.
My filter won’t open. Any ideas? It doesn’t unscrew
What if I dont have that lubricant he put on at the end? Does it matter or can I use something in place of it?
I recommend use this lubricant because it is safe for rubber and plastic.
May I ask what’s is it exactly, so that I may go get some?
I am having a problem. I cleaned out the filter but now water is squirting out the plug. I didn't put waterproof grease on the seal. Is that why it is leaking?
Applying silicone grease is highly recommended because it prevents an O-ring from the deformation while you screw it in.
I did the cleaning but the code still there?... filter is cleaned... what can it be? Pls help... it has been 3 times i try it thanks
It does have to be super clean..
My samsung machine is nt getting the water inside, can you please advise me also how to clean it.
Samsung only shows cleaning not greasing the gasket. Confused .
great video, thanks!
THe filter does not unscrew. It just turns and clicks but does not come out
Try to pull it out while you turn it.
Push in as you turn. Mine was really hard to do also.
There are small hinges hold them down with the screwdriver while opening that should work mine was stuck the same way kept spinning and clicking
Thank you. Perfect fix.
anyone know why the filter wont lock when turning to reinstall after cleaning? Nothing looks broken and the seal is in good shape.
Did you put a grease on the O-ring?
You just have to get it in there perfectly. It takes a bit of trial and error. Last time I thought it was broken and bought waterproof tape to try to seal it. Nothing worked and then I realized I just didn’t have it screwed in right even though it felt like I had done it right. This time around it took me 4 times of screwing it in and testing it and then I got it right finally.
Wish I had read the comments first. Drain the water first.
Thank you
Glad to be of help.
What kind of grease on rubber gasket
amzn.to/2TqKfrJ
Dem I feel like cleaning d filter but I see dat everyone has leaking problems when they try to put it back lol idk if I should do it 😐
If you'll do it the way we show you shouldn't have a problem.
It's better to have a clean filter than not working pump.
My filter keeps clicking and spinning but does NOT unscrew or come out. Any idea??
same concept as medicine child proof caps
Which water proof grease did you use?
amzn.to/3ctT77a
@@LegacyHandyman Thank you for your response and the helpful video.
Thanks man helped out
Glad I could help
When do you replace the filter
you only replace it if it is broken, other times just rinse it with water.
Were you aware that the QR code in Samsung washers links to your video? Which is funny, because you don’t mention draining the water first, and so there’s water all over the floor of my laundry room now
Thanks homie
My washer is making a lot of noise. It moves and sounds like an earthquake 😮what do I do!
Make sure you remove shipping bolts
@@LegacyHandyman It’s too heavy for me and I really not sure what I’m looking for
the filter stuck. I turned to left and still no move
Having trouble removing cap
same here, it just spins and spins, but doesn't unscrew
Thanks @
Legacy Handyman, it worked. I have the rinse and spin cycle going now to flush all the water. Why are you applying the water seal? Is it necessary?
@Figers B
Yes it is hard, but it eventually unscrews. Pinch the cap holder. And be careful, it is sharp. I cut my finger as it slipped. Good Luck.
Did u figure it out mine just clicks and wont open
For the first time ever I can't get mine to screw back in... Everyone seems to have issues getting them to unscrew, but mine just twists and twists and won't grip the threads.
Apply slight pressure while you screwing it in .also make sure that O ring is in the right place
@@LegacyHandyman thank you
Mine will not come out anymore
The filter is stuck. And the white thing at the end of the hose is stuck everything is just stuck at super 😑
This guy dont know what the small tub on the side for?
Is to remove water without making a mess
I can't get my filter door to open whatsoever i have tried pushing and pulling and turning clockwise nothing is happening
To unscrew the filter you need to turn it counterclockwise.
Same..i couldnt open the filter nomatter what i do I tried to do counter clockwise and clockwise and nothing happened but just bunch of clocking sound
Mine is the same dis you ever figure it out??
It did the job for me.
