Video #2 - Tearing down the Bafang M600 motor

- Luna Cycles came out with a new gear for the M600 motor.
Some people wanted their M600 motor to be quieter.
The M600 is not that loud, but a little more stealthy motor is not a bad thing at all.
The new gear is made of PEEK plastic and it will replace an all steel gear.
Video #1 shows how to remove the motor from a Luna X1
Video #2 shows how to open up the M600 motor and get to the assembly that holds the gear.
Video #3 shows how to press in the new gear if you are having trouble getting it to seat into the cups.
I have a post on electricbike.com about the new gear

Here is the link to the gear on the Luna cycles web site.

Once you have taking it apart a lot it will take a min or 2 i can take apart my bbshd and put back togeather in 15 to 20 minutes. I learnt how to take it apart on youtube without that it would of been really hard so good job on you
M600 motor is pretty simple to take apart.
Why did you change the gear in the first place? Replacing a metal gear with a plastic gear seems a little odd...
It's PEEK, not just any old plastic.

I ordered a peek gear for my bbshd and after 2 years i have looked at it and its about to go i think they may be to hard so they chip. .y nylon gear was fine after year and a half but replaced it any way.
I have 3000 miles on one of my X1's that has the Peek gear and it still looks perfect.
Thanks for sharing this info. I have a question for you, I have heard when a controller is taken out and replaced one is NOT supposed to move the crank arms until the new replacement controller has been installed. Would you know anything about this or why? I have moved the motor drive after pulling the controller while waiting for my replacement controller so now I am wondering if I have done something that will effect the new install of replacement controller. I have the green PCB on the controller that appairently means a DIY is OK for intalling a new replacement controller with out the need for specail pairing. The blue PCB controller however does need special pairing from factory or dealer to instal a replacement controler
I have never heard of such a thing. It makes no sense. The controller is just a circuit board that supplies power to the motor.
Excellent, I was wondering about liquid Ingres on this motor and boom you found liquid and the issue with I guess a easy fix?
Any sort of gasket leak could be fixed easily.
Hi, love your videos! I am wonderingif you can explain the torque sensing of the bafang vs. something like shimano e8000 or Bosch. I'm considering one of these Lunas, but everything I've read seems to indicate the Bafangs have a very on-off feel when the motor engages. I currently have a BBS02 equiped bike, and that being cadence-sensor only, it is not conducive to trail riding. I love the ideao of the power of the Bafang, but don't want to get something that doesn't feel responsive, because the sudden on-off tendency is very jarring when maneuvering slowly. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, Sorry I have no idea what other Ebikes are like. I have two X1's and a BBSHD fat bike. All Bafang motors
@@EL34XYZ Thanks anyway! What do you think of the torque sensor and responsiveness of the motor on the x-1? I know it's powerful, but do you like the feel of it? Thanks!
@@MickeyMikeMd I don't even think about it. It works great. Smooth and just right as far as I am concerned
@@EL34XYZ Awesome, much appreciated!
@@MickeyMikeMd Keep in mind that I always use level 1 of 9 on my X1's. I like getting a workout and not a free ride. I only go to level 3/9 if I am on a really steep climb. If you do try and start on level 3/9, you can feel the bike jolt forward more than you like. Starting on level one is smooth as butter.
You remind me of my father in law! Lol, thanks for the video
Must be a really smart and handsome guy? ..... :)
What size Lock ring wrench did you use to remove the lock ring?
I think you are asking about the ring tool, I used in post #20 here

ive had same issue on the bbso2 ,badly fitted gasket from factory also hardly any grease!
I am about to tear down my motor again to inspect. It has 3000 miles.
I ordered a 2nd Luna X1 a few weeks ago so I can have friends join me on rides.
Does anyone know if the max cadence can be increased on the m500 g520.250 motor? Cutoff at 100rpm feels a bit low to me.
There is nothing like that on my two X1's. Never heard of a cadence limit?
@@EL34XYZ its not really a limit. Its just that at a certain times i will pedal faster than the motor can support. Thats what i mean. The bosch cx performance will support up to 120 rpm, which is higher than listed rpm for the m500 motor, but i found myself outpedaling the motor on some hard short climbs.
@@maxspruit8370 I have two X1's and have never pedaled faster than the motor.
11:39 is when you ripped the gasket, twisting the screwdriver.
The gasket was stuck to the metal and probably;y ripped when pried off the surface
Please make also a teardown of M500.
I only own two M600 bikes
Use an old speaker to hold the screws. put duct tape over speaker so nothing fall thru. the speaker magnet hold all in bottom.
I have stacks of rare earth magnets if I needed to use magnets
Where can i purchase this motor in the US?
No where I know of. It comes with the Luna X1 Ebike
You can order it from ouka or aliexpress, maybe Luna cycles
@@victorrenevaldiviasoto9728 Dont want to deal with intl purchase anything with electronic stuff.
@@victorrenevaldiviasoto9728 ouka, nothing came up. Luna cycles doesnt sell any of the M series. aliexpress not worth the risk.
36 volt ?
The M600 in the Luna X1 has a 13.5 ah battery that is 13 cells in series x 4.2 volts max = 54.6 volts
The sticker on the controller said 48 volts. You can see that in the video
@@EL34XYZ Thanks!
A white little convector with two black wires, I don't have one, bafang m600 g521.500 09 36volt.
???
@@ВладимирМакаров-ф3ф I don't have an answer for you
