I was there! Unfortunately the crowed didn't get it, even if I, don't like to say that. TMV played in the beginning of a rather 'conventional' rock pop festival and the concert hall just started to fill up, when they were already in the midst of their set. The energy on stage was high voltage, my heart was pumping wild in front, and I saw a lot of disoriented faces in the audience.
there's no band like the voltas these guys are what rock music was needing, years and years of bands only insinuating... fuck great, thank god! RIP Jeremy
RIP Jeremy Ward and Ikey Owens! This was the best Mars Volta line up w/ Eva Gardner. They were full of energy back then and their live performance were amazing. I was super bummed when Ikey and Jon Theodore left the band! I feel like Queens of the Stone Age hold him back as a technical drummer.
he says "echale semilla a la' maracas pa' que suenen...", it means "put seeds on the maracas to make'em sound..." this is a very famous lyric from a salsman named Cheo Feliciano of the song "El ratón"
what i like about jon is that he was allways connected to rithym and he new how to make a trippy song better. thomas hes way hard rock and hes good at his style, they 2 good
How can you not move around and dance with the energy coming off that stage? Those rhythms that possess your hips? Music that provokes your entire body into movement. I don't understand. I'd be the only one dancing in the whole audience, looking like a fool.
I have to agree with you frances the mute was Cedric's best performance on the albums. I got into the mars volta when they were touring Australia when i wasn't in America. I AM YET TO SEE THEM LIVE BUT I WILL EVEN IF I HAVE TO GO TO EXTREME LENGTHS!
At 3:13, observe the mating call of the Cedric. And notice how he puts his leg on the bass drum, this is his stance, which he uses to attract females. This is truly a spectacle to be witnessed. We indeed are very lucky to witness such an event.
People weren't ready for them yet. Another year or two and the round the world hype is people comparing them to Zeppelin.. It was something special if you got to see them up to 2006. We'll never see this or scab dates again. They will always be one of my favorite bands, and 05 bonnaroo show is my favorite concert of hundreds to this day.
I've known of De Facto for awhile, but I never once thought of what you mentioned... Thank you. :) I just thought The Mars Volta came after the fall of ATD-I, nothing in between. But it does make sense, with the De Facto turning into TMV.
I agree, especially with tmv, but it even more amazing that when sober this group can making such captivating music, ppl dont understand that if they see them jumping around, or swallowing a mic like cedric does, that's just them acting, and feeling the msuic, nice chat man take care!
Ah yes... TMV when they were more humble and down-to-earth... I wish I could have been there, moving around, forcing the people around me to fucking dance.
It's incredibly true. I just shot over here from a live Stairway to Heaven video to compare because I've always sort of felt like TMV are the Led Zepelin of our generation. And in some ways is sort of true... technology has changed by leaps and bounds since the 70's and TMV fully utilize it but I feel if Led Zep had started in 03 they would've done the same things. (Cedric is no Robert Plant but thats probably only because Plant was a statue compared to the spastic stage presence of Cedric.)
@CarrotSlayer93 it's just that they never hear in their lives that music... the first time that i hear them, i was like them... like a fool without moving... I never thought that this music could exist
In terms of copyrights and the legality of songwriting royalties, Omar and Cedric are the sole creators. I agree that Jon is a very good drummer, but I'm more excited to listen to their new album with Thomas Pridgen on drums. It's sweet to hear how he broke down Jon's old parts and added to them.
yes "EL RATON" is a classic "SON", sometimes the salsa is similar to the blues or the gospel and they start improvising a phrase and then is added to the song as a chorus that is repeating over and over and between the chorus the "SONERO" improvises more lines, you could check out the FANIA ALL STAR concerts from the 70´s and watch them put in seeds to the maraca jeje,
This is the real Mars Volta.
Gato Mercado im the snreel snate rolodex
The realest that ever was
yes, forever out of tune
False , alderete in bass

John rips on drums. Still my favorite of all their drummers.

RIP Jeremy
This is passion, focused on the future without forgetting where you came from or who you are.
I love that Omar segment,it's like he's rehearsing a curse to the audience lol.

I agree, on the other hand Jon’s possibly best work is with ODAAL.
this vid displays true punk rock.
1 of my top 3 Mars Volta songs of all time!
the mars volta is both musically and visually amazing live. watch cedric and omars hips move. this is a great video thanks for uploading.
incredible how the mars volta have written such an amazing ep + other songs in less than a year. at the drive in split up that year!
Musical legends! Easily the best thing of the last seven years. I hope they can keep it up
the golden age of mars volta.
As much as I love the Volta, these are videos that make people think Cedric can't sing.
Is there a video where he can? I love his voice on the albums, but live he's garbage.
well even if cedric cant sing he sure can fuckin dance damn
@@badmanjones179 He's the greatest frontman/dancer of all time... or at least the most flamboyant
@@herbertgrabbottom8060 Agreed. His voice is pretty consistent in some moments of this performance, though
he says "echale semilla a la' maracas pa' que suenen...", it means "put seeds on the maracas to make'em sound..." this is a very famous lyric from a salsman named Cheo Feliciano of the song "El ratón"
Early volta ftw: Eva on bass, sketchy cedric vocals w/ impromptu drumming, and Omar with a mic.
the shot with the frozen crowd gives me goosebumps. shits scary dude.
+Pablo Marrero
yeah they werent ready for the future looks like
"Dethroned by the comatorium,
De-loused in the comatorium."
this is the coolest version of the Mars Volta: Omar, Cedric, Ikey, Eva, and Jon.
These guys had it all. Just amazing!
Oh Yeah what a band! I'm lucky and will be watching them in around 5 hours!!
cool, are they any good?
This song shows how Jon is great !
i just saw them here in San Antonio....they played this....and it was Beautiful.

The fact that this video exists makes me very happy.

I'm so thankful for knowing about and really enjoying this band. They truly are something special.
I've watched this video millions of fuckin times and I can't get enough. Omar & Cedric=Genius.
OMG! from the middle part on, it got so groovy!
this is way back, looking at this and where they are now all i can say is wow
EPIC, i love the jam they throw on this
what i like about jon is that he was allways connected to rithym and he new how to make a trippy song better. thomas hes way hard rock and hes good at his style, they 2 good

Off the Tremulant EP... Ahhhhh. Such an amazing band... I love The Mars Volta. :) Thanks for posting.
Just, so...AWESOME!
The Mars Volta are so sick it's not fair
Amazing
Love at first sight: she is a girl, makes the bass speak, and played in the best mars volta formation, what else can someone possibly want?
wow ive been waiting for so long for someone to put up a live version of this song, thanks man.
i miss theodore too! thomas is slowly but surely finding his place in the band.
Jon Theodore's ripping it up big time!
I a agree 100%, Pridgen is a fantastic drummer, but theodore has so much style, he fitted a little better in TMV.
that break down at the end is sooooo sickkkkkkk
I've known of De Facto for awhile, but I never once thought of what you mentioned... Thank you. :) I just thought The Mars Volta came after the fall of ATD-I, nothing in between. But it does make sense, with the De Facto turning into TMV.
Wow, such a great preformace.
Especially Omar- man does he tear up the guitar in this video.

Someone in here has this all show?? There was a video about this show that Eva Gardner blasted all in a improvisation time!!! Who has, ask me!!
best band ever period
4:04 - 6:00 is the jam part of the song if I'm understanding your question correctly.
Thanks a lot man
Ah yes... TMV when they were more humble and down-to-earth... I wish I could have been there, moving around, forcing the people around me to fucking dance.
Jon Theodore rules
He'll yeah he does, TMV was never the same after him.
+Zeppelin 213 which is exactly what they wanted. Iget what you mean, but just a reminder haha
i love the dutch praise of the volt at the end. hahaha :)
The public is in shock by its awesomeness

you'd think someone coming from RACER X would know how to keep up with that type of stuff. where'd you get all of that, though?
It's off the EP 'Tremulant', TMV's first release way back in 2002.
