The wire nuts are in case you're replacing an existing switch with the remote. You'd need them to connect the wires that were connected to the switch inside the electrical box so the circuit is always closed at that end, allowing the dimmer/remote to control the state of the lights.

Awesome! You helped me figure out how to insert the remote into the plastic thing! Thanks!!!

Thank you for this video. I had my screws going in through the back and they weren’t allowing me to mount the unit flat against the wall. It didn’t occur to me to put the screws in from the front. 😅

Might want to do more research on the product you are demonstrating.

While the remote has a little button in the center for 'favorite' -- does the base switch remember what dim setting you had it on when you turn it on/off... or does the ON button immediately turn it on maximum brightness?

      @MikesLikes  5 лет назад

It does not remember the dim setting. Top button always turns lights to 100%. I am using the Wink hub to connect them so it may work different with the Lutron hub.

Thanks for the video! Is that remote battery operated? If so, you would have to take off the wall mount?

      Yes, it is battery operated.

Yo Mike. I bought a few of these brackets and I'm also surprised you can't remove the remote after mounting. What you could do is add a thin magnet to the back of the remote and to the actual mount. Have you seen the Philips Hue remote control? It ships with a wall mount and it uses double-side tape so you can mount without making any holes in the drywall. And, both the mount and remote have magnets built in. I barely ever remove the remote but sometimes I do and its a nice feature.
Another really nice feature of the Hue remote, and I frickin love this, is that you can control multiple lights from the same remote, all by tapping the "on" button more than once. The Hue remote lets you program what each additional press does. For instance, if I press once I can have the flushmount ceiling light turn on to full brightness, with one more press I can have the table lamps turn on as well, with another press I could have them change to a different color, and with another press I could have them automatically dim to my favorite setting. You can program a bunch of things. I really wish Lutron would allow you to do this with the Pico.
I have several Lutron Caseta dimmers, how sick would it be if one remote could be programmed to turn on more than one light? You can do this now sort of through a smart hub like Wink. But the limitation is it only lets you program a single tap. Meaning, you can program it to turn on more than one room with a single tap, but it doesn't support multiple programmable taps like the Hue remote.

I have 6 recessed lights in my kitchen that I put the Hue BR30's in and I use the hue remote for them. I love those lights and remote because like you said you can program scenes into it. I works great when you have multiple Hue lights in one room. I also have the Wink Hub that I use with my Lutron dimmers.

It’s been a few months since the original post, so things may have changed. But, I found that the Pico is removable from the bracket, just do not remove the double stick tape if you use the special bracket (which is best suited over an existing box). For me, I didn’t even buy a special bracket, as the Pico has a small stamp sized slide mount built in (you will need to double stick that to the wall). I just screwed a Decora style cover over it all , right into the wall board (no existing junction box). Additionally, the Pico can now be programmed to control multiple dimmers, and I use the Caseta hub. I set this up thru the Lutron app by grouping the dimmers. I can now walk into my apartment and have one Pico, mounted on the wall, which is removable, turn on all my entry and hall lights (or dim, brighten, off, etc). I think the Pico packaging, app and hub have been updated since this original post.

Instructions are terrible. Thank you for this video. The Pico makes a log home modern.

Thats right International instructions do not tell you the back of the remote has a plate that removes so you can slide it on the mounting bracket. International meaning pictures only but there isnt a pic of the back of the remote and removing the price behind the two way tape totally brutal for the price of all their switches and this product

There should be a wall magnet mount instead.

My Pico wall plate bracket came with an extra piece of plastic slid into the bottom of the bracket. It had a piece of adhesive on it. I did not see that in your video. I never found a use for it and just discarded it. All is working fine. Any idea about the intended use of that piece? (I can supply a photo if needed, let me know.)

Are you talking about the piece of plastic on the back of the remote? I remember seeing a piece of plastic on the back of the bracket but it did have adhesive on it. I talk about it at 3:23 in the video.

Sorry for the delay in replying. And..nope. I was talking about something else. According to Lutron, it is only needed if you plan to install on wall directly. That wasn't me.

If you read the instructions, you'll understand why the wire nuts are included

This is the second video about a Lutron product where the guy tosses the instructions. Because that’s what men do. And then proceed to make a mistake. Like not knowing what the wire nuts would be used for. Nothing serious but just… really guys. Reading an instructions booklet won’t take away your man card
