"You stupid woman and your weird child!" Is now my FAVORITE Dr. Who line. PLEASE never stop using that clip and the clip from Robyn Hood when the Torture Bunny walks into the room.
Gatwa seriously said “only really one demographic of people” are able to “walk into unknown situations and take charge with authority” and “it’s certainly not a woman, and it’s certainly not someone black.” I think that says everything we need to know.
How is a black doctor going to do anything in literally 99% of the historical locations they're gonna visit - mostly cause of budget restraints. A moot point I guess, seeing as this episode was designed to finish the Dr Who story. The real Dr Who got his happy ending and the story is over. Gatwa is an alt-Doctor with a different franchise. It's done now.

So refreshing to know that there is someone outside the 'woke' bubble. Christopher Eccleston gives me hope, I was beginning to think everyone was completely gaga out there.
@@phantomkate6 It's some sort of code that I can't crack. The term originated 70 years ago, and had a precise meaning. These days I've heard it used to describe people who eat healthy food. But I think the criticism here is that the BBC sees a fantasy sci-fi show as a good way of giving screentime to underrepresented groups.
Each doctor brought something to the table. The doctors rage,( Eccleston) the doctors humor, (Smith) his wisdom( Tennent) his weariness of it all (Capaldi) Then we get Whittaker and I can't figure out what it is she brought besides confusion.
The writing was bad for Clara. They made too much of her being special. They wanted to make her River-like. She should have been a person thrilled to travel with the doctor. Once Capaldi left, I was done.
It's funny how so many of the people involved in these shows and movies say something like, "I look forward to a time when we don't need to talk about the race or gender of a character or actor". Then all they do is talk about and highlight the race or gender of a character.
I think their argument for Finn doesn't really work because people weren't upset he picked up a Lightsaber but that he wasn't a Jedi! People wanted him to be a Jedi and were upset he wasn't because we were baited into thinking he was one by holding a Lightsaber in all the promo material.
Even disregarding all the messy retcons this show has been throwing out since the 50th anniversary special and the massive exponential increase in woke insanity... Donna Noble did not free a planet of enslaved Oods because she felt their song of sadness, just to poke a furry creature in the eye and suggest selling it for science.
TBH that wasn't a point I got hung up on because it felt in line for Runaway Bride Donna which is where she's mostly at right at that moment mentally. Donna was super self-absorbed and hated anything that pushed her out of her bubble. It was spending time with the Doctor that brought out her better qualities and helped shape her into a more empathic person. The character growth is part of why I love her character because she starts off being a really bad companion but becomes an amazing one.
Heh....I nearly fell off my sofa laughing at that one! If it was me, I would do that...I would send it up and mess about as a long term fan. Just for my own sake but I bet people would laugh and find it funny....
Matt Smith was initially criticised for beimng too young for the part and he was a brilliant Doctor. I never saw him making an issue out of it. Matt has dignity and humour. Great Doctor and top fellow.

Probably because judging by the suggestive photo of him with his hand over RTD’s face and the ‘messaging’ they want to signal with his character, I can think of a few less than professional ways he got the role handed to him the day he walked in
I wonder if RTD thought the still living Doctor actors would be ecstatic at the opportunity to come back in future episodes, but never expected for one of them to shoot him down.
The emnity between RTD and Eccleston is well known. That's why Eccleston left the show in the first place. I doubt that he had any expectations to get him back. Jodie will probably make an appearance, but I would be highly surprised if Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi would come back.
Peter Capaldi probably would if asked. The man has no dignity if the end of tenure is any indication. I'm hoping Matt Smith will avoid this like a plague, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Capaldi was under a contract. He couldn't just tell them to piss off and not do Season 10. He quite explicitly said on camera that he wants to leave his tenure as The Doctor as it is and not change it, so he won't be returning. As for Smith, who knows. @@fictiontheorizer4253
Let's talk about the Toymakers 'domain'. The domain is his box. You enter his realm, then he can control it. The Toymaker enters the human world, then his control is limited. Doctor Who, a British fantasy Sci-Fi show that began 60 years ago featuring an eccentric male British protagonist who typically traveled with companions in a multitude of adventures across time and space that would grow to become a world wide hit across many countries and continents Sometime between years 50 and 60 it was decided the problem with the show was what the main character looked like despite it having world wide appeal and then wonder why people stopped watching.

@@jaxr2958 What I'm "on about" is this was a very popular show until the people making the show starting caring more about "representation" and "the message" versus good story telling. I'll give you a great example. Take the episode during the Whitaker run where they guy went back in time to stop Montgomery bus incident. A great story would have been they never figure out what was going on until they failed, only they don't fail. You have the companions bemoaning how the world will now be so much worse for the Doctor to tell them to take heart. "Because true movements can't be stopped, at most delayed, and only by a little." You then she her rush across the street to alert an older African American lady who has left her purse on the bench at the bus stop. She thanks the Doctor for making sure she has it when the bus driver calls out, "Come on now, Miss Rosa. Can't be holding up the line too long." Take your L and move on.
The trailer for the Christmas special is literally insanity inducing. The Doctor has never cared about his sexual orientation. Even when he was "in love" with Rose, he NEVER had A PHYSICAL fascination with her. He loved her because she made traveling time and space fun.; it was always "she makes every adventure worth going on" vibe. Never a "damn I cant wait to shack Rose"
waht drugs you on ? his clone literally is together with rose now xD of course they had physical attraction everything else you make up in ur mind he even said stuff like "jaeh still got it" after fake rose kissed him ... your phantasies aint reality
Eccleston was always my favourite doctor. He seemed like he was hard-cool. Like he wants to use science but if a punch is needed to solve the problem, he wasn’t against it. It’s that scene where he’s talking about how he’s not afraid of Daleks. Cool as. It’s so refreshing to see someone call out Russell T Davis.
Like how Chris Hemsworth said he wouldn’t do Thor again if Taika Waititi was involved. It’s not even that it’s based. It’s just an integrity move by noticing the shite these directors are forcing does not make a good show.
Who the hell ‘hated Finn picking up a light saber?’ .. pretty sure that everyone was hyped for Finn to be a whole new Jedi … and then the story happened and said ‘Nuh uh!!’
At the cinema I watched it, there were cheers when Finn picked up the light saber, we were expecting something better than we got. I wanted Finn to be a fuller character than the comic relief.

I know I, for one, was psyched when I saw Finn holding the blue lightsaber in the promotional images, and even more so when it was revealed that he was a defecting storm troo-oh no wait, he’s actually just the caricature of a cowardly, nervous black man who works in a menial, subservient role (in Finn’s case, a janitor) who yells too much of bygone eras. My guess is they split the doctor so they could keep tennant in the universe for the hope of bringing fans back again after this next doctor destroyed the show
It makes more sense to me to view the Gatwa line as the ability to turn the show into full-on science fantasy (as if it wasn't already by the Capaldi era) while viewers can still think the original science-fiction line is also still concurrently running someplace. Given that Tenant is the official 10th and 14th Doctors somebody could regenerate into him as many times as they like, so story-wise you get nothing from having him around growing marrows somewhere.

Retconning the most famous Dr Who bad guy into an unrecognisable (to previous incarnations) character just because they don't want to offend wheelchair users .....these people are utterly insane.
Right!?! Actual wheelchair users from whom I've read numerous responses on numerous posts about how Davros showed them they can be and do whatever they put their minds to. I have a friend of more than 20 years who is a published author and world traveling presenter. He is assisted with the writing because of physical ability, but nothing will stop him. He's an amazing guy.
And the wheelchair user character could have been brilliant, without all the "Oh, was it offensive to say that?" Type lines, like she was really sensitive and needed everyone to police their language. Like just treat her like a normal person doing a job- that would have been good. Like in silent witness they went going about checking their words were okay with Liz Carrs character. Take a leaf from their book.
Russell T Davies proved that he was never the reason why Doctor Who was successful and well-written. He only managed to siphon all the glory for himself.
Totally agree. Of all the episodes he's written only Midnight can be classed as a classic episode imho. I think he's a dreadful writer and I've never understood the reputation he seems to enjoy.
It was a fondly remembered and missed British institution in 2004, and any competent producer could have brought that up to date. I also heard first hand that RTD didn't know what would work and that's why the tone of his stories varies from one to the next - trying to see what the audience would like best. While Eccleston specifically preferred the non-Davies stories like Dalek.
@@vordmanThe tone and focus of the show was all RTD. The other revival proposals were quite different. And keep in mind that he would rewrite other scripts as per need.
Him needing only one audition comes across like how some girls got far in showbiz, by being forced to bang the right people. And I totally wouldn't be surprised if Russell and Ncuti were getting it on, behind the scenes.
Whether they are or aren't, the point is that they took such a ridiculous, dignity-stealing picture. RTD wanted to look like a sugar daddy showing off a boy toy, wanted to emphasize that he was taller than an extremely short man, and wanted to look like he was doing a casting couch thing. A dignified photo would have showed them looking professional.
I heard something similar about the scientist in a wheelchair. After one audition Davis rewrote a character to be in a wheelchair for her specifically. Sometimes producers just do that.
Who the Hell kicked off at Gatwa getting the role? I heard Davies was coming back, saw Gatwa and thought, “Awesome! They’ll make a fun show.” Now they’ve put a literal pause button on Tennant, set up Gatwa to fail, and laid out a blueprint for the most hackneyed, cringe inducing messaging platform masquerading as a show millions used to love. And somehow all of this is our fault. Sounds legit.
After watching these 3 episodes, I had to go back and watch "Rose" with Eccleston and Piper. . . .how can that story be written by the same man who wrote these 3. . .I can only assume that RTD actually hates what he had done in the past and that it is intention to destroy the Doctor. . .
My favourite comment about Russel T Davies. You can't spell retard without RTD Who looks at a half man half Dalek and thought "handicapped people are evil"? Middleclass people are the only people RTD associates with so, the middleclass are bigots I guess

I came in to Doctor Who in my thirties, so I really had no childhood nostalgia for it, and I think that helped me appreciate the differences between the doctors. There was a huge change when Eccelsten left that I saw immediately.
That feeling was the BBC taking credit for something they quietly brought back and it turned out to be a success so they went "right go full ideology from now on"

Right here goes, I grew up watching the Great Tom Baker as the Dr and what made it great was the shows commitment to the story. The show may have had cheap effects and such but it had a load of great actor's who would bring everything to life. The old Dr Who was a side show for the nerds and geeks and no one cared about us. Now the Wokkies have destroyed all the nerd and geek culture. This is why so many of us are looking overseas for our entertainment even more than usual. Once where we had well written engaging shows, now we have a delivery system for The Message and not entertainment.
These are dark times for Nerddom...they've destroyed nearly everything we hold dear from D&D / TTRPG to comics to Star Wars and now my beloved Dr. Who. At least we still have what came before...I also grew up with Tom Baker, and have gone back to rewatch from the original Season 1.
Same here. Started with Tom Baker on PBS in the US. By the way, I did not see any of the 60th anniversary specials. I did check out the different reviews and I heard about the lunacy of bi-generation. But I never saw the splitting of the TARDIS, until now. And I was actually disgusted and horrified. That atrocious scene just shits all over "The Doctor's Wife" by Neil Gaiman. Yeah, I am OUT!
What is the difference between a Man and a Parasite? A Man builds. A Parasite asks, "Where is my share?" A Man creates. A Parasite says, "What will the neighbors think?" A Man invents. A Parasite says, "Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of God..." Meant to be a satire, now is a reality.

I was annoyed with Christopher Eccleston when he said he would never come back to Dr Who, and then returned to Big Finish when his career in Hollywood didn't quite work out like he wanted, but now I realise how right he was, and should have listened sooner ! Good on him for speaking out
People think it started down hill with Peter Capaldi, but the writing has been on the wall since Tennant and definitely Smith.

Gatwa seriously said “only really one demographic of people” are able to “walk into unknown situations and take charge with authority” and “it’s certainly not a woman, and it’s certainly not someone black.”
I think that says everything we need to know.
If he gives up before he begins, why is he even bothering to play The Doctor?

"We don't want disabled people to be viewed as evil" has the same energy as "Orcs shouldn't be coded as savage black people."

Funnily, orcs in early D&D and in Warhammer 40K were green-skinned. And have tusks. But if certain groups want to create a strawman, they will always just pretend "X = G", then scream how this shows an -ism again G.

I think their argument for Finn doesn't really work because people weren't upset he picked up a Lightsaber but that he wasn't a Jedi! People wanted him to be a Jedi and were upset he wasn't because we were baited into thinking he was one by holding a Lightsaber in all the promo material.

He didn't like the in-universe reasons that Moffat and others came up with for why the actors looked older. RTD is shit at SciFi.
Especially when the doctor gave her $160 million pounds, which she then gave away.

Doctor Who, a British fantasy Sci-Fi show that began 60 years ago featuring an eccentric male British protagonist who typically traveled with companions in a multitude of adventures across time and space that would grow to become a world wide hit across many countries and continents
Sometime between years 50 and 60 it was decided the problem with the show was what the main character looked like despite it having world wide appeal and then wonder why people stopped watching.
But you are the one focused on what The Doctor looks like. How The Doctor looks is completely irrelevant.

Can't be holding up the line too long."
Take your L and move on.
The trailer for the Christmas special is literally insanity inducing. The Doctor has never cared about his sexual orientation. Even when he was "in love" with Rose, he NEVER had A PHYSICAL fascination with her.

The picture where he has his hand on RTD's face looks very intimate, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were!
