  • Many youtubers claim their videos on CDI conversion but none of them really are. Not even close.
    As I am converting my RD350 to CDI due to unavailability of OEM parts (HT coils) in the market, here is my 30 minute long first part. In full details. No shortcuts & No excuses.
    The work was done at SMG Customizing Works by professional, Mr. Sushil.
    Stay tuned for upcoming part 2. RD350 Shift shaft replacement and much more...

      It can cost from INR 8000 up to INR 45000+, depends from whom, where and what type you're buying, the one I used cost me just Rs. 8000 only.

    Yamaha R5 350, DS7 250, RD 250 ,RD 350, RD 350 LC all pretty much the same crankcases the Yamaha Banshee was a quad based on the RD 350 LC engine standard with Electronic Ignition in production until at least 2014 and readily available as well as aftermarket systems including fully mappable systems from Eastern Europe two systems both very good have used both and dyno mapped banshees with them.
    Banshees with stroker crank and big bore cylinders with Keihin PWK 35MM carbs and pipes plus port work arouns 96 HP at wheels as a 421
    Much more if bigger such as 535, 610 etc so plenty of options available.
    wrong puller to remove rotor will damage it not good

    you didn't lap the taper when installing the new rotor/flywheel. big no-no as they are custom locked together . good chance of it slipping and snapping the key now.

    Nice video however the way mechanic took the gear lever out, holding tool and removing magnet using wrong puller, shows not enough care have been put in. This kind of puller damages the magnet for sure.

    • @cyclonefish1463
      @cyclonefish1463  2 года назад

      Removing magnet using wrong puller OR removing the flywheel which was located at the back of points? For the rest I understand your concern.

    • @GautamChatterji
      @GautamChatterji 2 года назад

      @@cyclonefish1463 yes, the magnet/flywheel behind there points plate, should be pulled using the threads in the middle using proper puller or min a bolt of correct size which when tightened will take the magnet out. The magnet is a precision component and riveted assembly so pulling the face plate of the magnet upsets the magnet balance. The magnet is dynamically balanced so should be taken care including not dropping it anytime.

      @@GautamChatterji He used puller@ 9:28. I am also keeping the original points just in case if I am not happy with CDI I can switch back to points. But the real dilemma is finding the original ignition coils, my one of the original HT coils isn't firing and it is hard to find replacement, also the reason to opt for CDI.

    • @GautamChatterji
      @GautamChatterji 2 года назад

      @@cyclonefish1463 yes that’s the good plan. Consistency of CDI at all temperature and riding conditions is important. Some people have switched back to points recently due to the missing character of RD let alone any issues with the CDI.
      I’ll be doing a full length video on points sometime soon and will address the coil issue there too. Meantime keep a lookout for original used coil on FB selling groups or you can always procure US spec coils.
