Inpatient vs outpatient medicine, which one is better? In this video, I am going to discuss the difference between inpatient and outpatient medicine in terms of work and lifestyle, then provide you my personal preference. The goal of this video is to educate you about the schedule and lifestyle of internal medicine doctor in USA, and to help you decide on your future career if you are going for medicine.

But don’t you get to spend a whole 7 days with your family inpatient??

@palamaallen3224 not necessarily. Like I mentioned in the video. If your kids go to school, then even if you have the whole 7 days off, the hours you can spend with your kids would be after school. During your 7 days on, you work longer hours, there are also days you need to be on call. In addition, you lose half of the weekends per year. Compared to my current job (outpatient) which I am pretty much done at 3 pm and pick up my kids at school every single day, and off on the weekends (and holidays!), I have maximum time to spend with my kids. Again, it would be different if you dont have kids or single.
