I like your demeaner and helpful attitude, theres a laptop repair place in my town in Illinois and they are real jerks, talk to you like you owe them for every second youre speaking to them and wont even discuss your concerns or requirements just ask what you want grab your computer and snub you like youre just too much trouble -- I only went there once and after seeing their attitude I took my laptop back told them they were jerks and left. Then I came home watched some videos like yours and just did it all myself, they did me a favor in the long run as I can now do most of this stuff myself and not pay jerks like them and just subbed to your channel.

I just added a 500gb PCI NVME drive to my HP 17-CN1053CL . Had to disconnect the hard drive after cloning it so the bios would boot from the new SSD. After the first boot I was able to reconnect the hard disk and after the Bios reset, the system booted from the SSD. In a few days, I will format the hard disk and use it for storage, It’s been a long time since I owned an HP anything they are better now but still do some wired stuff. Couldn't resist the sub $400 price for a beautifully refurbished unit
Great, clear video. I have a laptop that looks very much like the one in the video. It's an HP 17-BY0xxx. The supplied Wifi card is an Intel® Wireless‑AC 9461 433Mbps. Is there a newer, faster Wifi card that will fit this laptop? There seems to be several that might fit but they all include incompatibility warnings. Thanks.
I have the 17-by4062CL and it looks like a very similar laptop to that. I like it so far anyhow. Mine doesn't have an optical drive but I can't remember the last time I ever needed one. All the stuff I ever use is downloadable now and I find it impractical to burn CDs any more unless to play music from them.

For this customer I would have done same as you --- NVMe - 8GB -- Clean install though why not Windows 11? But a clean install for sure. No cloning. Transfer data from her old laptop.
@@youaregoingtolovethis Your license key is embedded in the bios BUT #2 and just to be sure.......before doing anything, go find out your license key with the magic jellybean app. Email it to yourself and write it down too. Then do the clean installation. On your new NVMe drive

Man mine isn’t going this smooth. I just upgraded to 32gb ram. Then I got a Samsung 2TB 990 name m.2 and it is just all jacked up. Shows up but with smaller space after cloning hdd drive. Won’t show up in my boot stuff. Hp 17 CN0xxxx

I've got 16 GB of RAM and was hoping to upgrade to 32 GB but cannot find anywhere that states the max memory allowable in this computer. I'm guessing you know if these upgrades are supported.

I don't understand how it activated when you wiped the hard drive prior to the clean install. Doesn't the install need to look for a previous install to see if you qualify?
Snagged a hp i7-by4063cl for $550 refurbed from new egg, had 12gb ram, pulled the 4gb chip, put that in my dads laptop, and added a 16gb stick. Thinking of adding an m.2 SSD for more storage space or clone the harddrive over and pulling the old drive to help save power. Has the Intel Iris graphics which is nice for some light 3D gaming.
I bought a 17-by2053cl on eBay 12 days ago. $320 w free shipping / no AC adapter, but I have an AC adapter already from other HP lappys. 17-by2053cl also has a cousin (17-by3053cl) that is 95% the same, but with the i5-1035G1 CPU. Both have back lit keyboards and 300 NITS IPS 100% NTSC displays. Verify my info. But I know my 17-by2053cl at home has a back lit keyboard with 2 levels of brightness and the 300 NITS. I am about to install a 500 or 512 or 256 GB NVMe for the Windows 11 boot drive. _________________ 17-by3053cl is on Ebay right now! $299 _______
@@480JD Leave the 1TB drive in. It will not use power unless you access it, which will not be that often after you install a 256GB or 512GB NVMe. The 1TB drive is good for storing movies and stuff. After installing NVMe do a clean fresh installation of Windows 11 into it. Then wipe the 1TB drive via Windows 11 "disc management" in the NVMe_______ OR >>>> Save all your data off your 1TB drive. Install NVMe drive. THEN when installing Win 11into NVME you can delete all partitions you see that belong to the 1TB drive. These will be the first 3-4 partitions listed. Just delete them..... Then proceed to installing Win 11 onto your NVMe drive.
@@zenzekezenard4269 the HDD will use power regardless if you use it cause it has to spin up the platter . It will just use less if not being accessed .
Hello. I was actually trying something similar but for my hp 14 dk0010ca. The crucial system scanner showed it could take a P2 M.2 NVME drive. I opened it up and saw it had an M.2 solder points in the board but had no socket...I ordered the socket from TE USA and soldered it onto the board. However, when I put in the drive, it doesn't show up in Bios or in Windows. Any ideas ? I contacted crucial and they told me the laptop should support the Crucial P2. I changed the Bios settings to 'Legacy' , turned off secure boot, etc. but it didn't help. The Bios was the latest version but I also downgraded the Bios to the older version and that also didn't work. Any ideas ? Thank you.
I have a HP 17-ca0054cl and everything says I have a NVMe slot for a SSD... even has is printed on the motherboard and has the connectors where the slot would attach to...but there's no damn slot there... nothing! Fortunately I was able to return my Samsung SSD to Amazon... ppppfffftttt!

The M.2 connector looks to be low profile. Will a double sided NVMe drive fit without flexing? My EX920 drive has fairly large capacitors close to the edge connector.
You said spam call. What I do is just set my default ringtone to nothing and only put one on people I know. I still see the spammers and other unknown numbers but those ones just won't make any distracting or annoying unwanted noise. Really, almost none ever bother me but the very rare times they do I never have anything even slightly nice to say to them!!

I updated my old HP 17.3 dv7 and put in a 2tb ssd and more ram to and put in Windows 10. Works so much. better.

i have a an older sata with win 7....will that fit in my new hp 17 series...great knowledge and easy to understans
as long as its a 2.5" SATA drive, then yes you can! It also has an M.2 slot for your NVMe ssd.

Hi. The best thing you can do is upgrade to an SSD. EIther a 2.5 inch sata ssd, or m.2 ssd. Very big speed boost.

Clean install would need a license key to activate. Clone no such thing needed and all settings are done.

No, the license keys for digital are tied to the hardware IDs of the motherboard, you can wipe the keys in bios.

I can't say for sure if that model has an m.2 slot. You can easily use a 2.5 inch sata ssd though.

You said a NVME drive is 5 to 7 times faster then a SSD drive and over 20 times faster then a 5400rpm drive. NVME are best for gaming
