Just to clarify, the resume advice I give here is for kids who have 0 work experience. As you get older and start pursuing better, more specialized opportunities, your resume needs to become more focused on why you're a perfect fit for *that* specific job.

Anyone else actually really like the “you’re gonna be fine” at the end of a lot of his shit. It’s something that, at least me personally, really needs to be heard. As someone who deals its anxiety and stuff, just a simple, not it’s gonna be okay, but you’re gonna do fine is so helpful. I don’t exactly know the difference but whatever it may be, I like it.

maybe because "it's gonna be okay" is just referring to something that noone has real control over and that you just have to sit and hope it turns out well, but "you're gonna do fine" is more referring to you, yourself. saying that you will do a just fine job.

The fact that you made a resume and made the effort to give it to someone speaks a lot more than what's on the resume, by the way. Schlatt is right: the point is to show that you're ready to show up and put in the effort. When you go up to a potential employer, you showed up. When you hand in your resume, you're putting in the effort.

I'm not good in academicians, I not good at any sports, and I not good at keeping a friendship. Anytime I try to pick myself up and try to improve myself I end up falling flat on my face. I study hard for a test but still fail, I try to make myself a better person and I still fail. I just feel like I'm a good for nothing loser who is not good at anything in life and I wouldn't be lying if sometimes I just wish I just wasn't
Sorry if my grammar was bad, but I really hope you can help me because I really need your advice :(

    • @featherlilly07
      @featherlilly07 4 года назад +5

Maybe I'm not who you want to respond, but I suggest you try reconsidering what you're capable of. It can be easy for one to have an unrealistically negative view of themselves to where they don't see any value in anything that they do, when in fact there is value. The fact you're trying to do anything at all is a sign that you have some level of motivation.
It's really not always about how much motivation or inspiration you have but the reasons and things that make you have any to begin with. I would also highly recommend, which this is possibly the hardest part, is to ask people for help when you can. It can make you feel bad, feel embarrassed, any number of things. But you should make a healthy relationship with allowing yourself to ask when you aren't sure about something, especially with school.
It will make you feel better to have the answer and make you a better person too, especially at what you do. Could ask the people next to you when you sit, could ask the teacher when they're explaining something, could talk to them privately. I know I would often ask them questions when I turned in papers so it blended in with people talking instead of a silent room. Maybe you could do something similar.
With sports, you don't have to be good at them. But you can learn how to be better at them. It's a good time to get things off your mind if you do. And too, not every sport is for everyone. Don't force yourself or let other people force you to play something you're not interested in.

as a highschooler born and raised in new york city i can confirm that having a picture of the subway map saved on my phone has saved me from getting lost/being late hundreds of times by now. And in addition to what schlatt said about not eating out every night, when you DO go out try not to fall into the trap of only going to the big chains that you know from jersey. make friends with some of the locals at your college and find out what the really good small businesses are. in nyc we're super lucky to have so much diverse and delicious (and affordable if you know where to look) food, and its something you want to experience while you're here. also if a subway car is completely empty, its usually for a reason. try to stick to the more well populated cars.

Back when I was looking for a job two years ago, I was only 15 and it was hard to find places that were hiring let alone 15 year olds. I not only applied to an actual dozen or so places but made sure call/come in on a weekly basis about my application. That persistence of coming in every week is what made my boss hire me at Dairy Queen (which is where I’m writing out this comment on my break). So my main piece of advice for anyone looking for a job whose around 15-17 is persistence. Sure an application helps but persistence helps make you stand out compared to everyone else who just turned in their application and left it at that.
Or you could be my coworker who applied as a joke and got hired a year later or my friend who I put in a good word for and skipped the whole process of applying for a shit ton of jobs lol

Sometimes I wish I spent time working at a Deli! I love hearing so many students looking for work. Don't stress too much about finding the perfect job in High School!
    In other words:
Job in High School - Should be anything for the sake of experience. Learn how to stick to a schedule and follow through.
Job in College (or post high school) - Try to find something that aligns with what you want to do in the future (supposing you know what that is). I highly recommend becoming a tutor in whatever you are studying if you can find the work. If you do not go to college, I highly recommend picking up a skilled labor position (welding, AC technician, electrician, etc...). These jobs pay extremely well and will be in demand as people look over them and dive straight into college.
First Job After College (after apprenticeship) - You may have to apply a lot, you may have some trouble, and unfortunately, you may not end up doing the most exciting work. Whatever the job is, know when enough is enough so that you can mentally move on at the appropriate time.
There are plenty of videos about jobs online!!!
More importantly, once money starts coming in at any level, learn how to handle your finances. You want to be able to answer:
    - In what ways can I make my money work for me?
    - Are the decisions I am making moving my retirement age towards or away from my current age?
    - I like lists of three...
    Take care yall!

I've asked my parents so many times to help me get a job ever since I was 14 (I'm 17 now). I need their help because I genuinely don't know anyone to ask. I still don't. I am not very social and I really sucks because I really want some bit of income. I'm not very skillful in anything in particular so I cant really ask a specific company. Noone in shops is looking for people due to Covid and budget cuts. It really upsets me when I get called lazy and useless when I cant find a job for myself. It is normal in my country to not have a job till you're like 18-20. But I've just always wanted to put my effort into the society and I contantly feel like an utter failure. I cry a lot about it ngl.
Thanks schlatt for the advice you give. It may not help me and my fears but it will most definitely help others.

Hey, got some stuff to add, or at least to compound what Schlatt said. Also, I'm fairly certain I've mentioned part of this in a previous comment but, dammit, if Schlatt can repeat himself about previous jobs of his then so can I.
So, I'm a high school senior, right? That's basically the ideal time to start working up a bit of cash to afford college. Now, I didn't actually get a job until the ripe, ripe age of 16. I had been applying to the same place for nearly two years (the only place in town that took employees that young), but I was so half-assed-- and clearly doing it because my parents had told me to-- that no one in their right mind would ever hire me. What actually motivated me to get my first job was my parents threatening to take my car away if I didn't get it by the end of the year.
Within a month, I had kicked into high gear and gotten employed by this service called Aftercare. Essentially, I'd pop by every day after school for a few hours to look after kids and make sure they didn't tear each other's limbs off or something. Let me tell you, it was brutal, and I would never wish those kids on my worst enemies. But I regret not a second of it. I got experience, I got references from my employers, and I learned work ethic. That same year, I got a job with my brother-in-law at his liquidation company for slightly higher pay, so I started juggling that alongside my school, other job, and college.
Now, obviously COVID-19 has taken away the former of my jobs, at least temporarily. I still do some liquidation work, and even though it's not nearly enough I still take what I can. As I go forward for my new jobs, though, I can assure you that what attracts those employers is persistence and confidence. Sure, it's good to have references and a good resume; do that, for sure, it's pretty essential. But you have to keep pestering them until they take a look at that application, no matter how obnoxious it is. Present yourself with dignity and with unabashed self-confidence, even if it feels unearned. That applies to more than just jobs. That applies to life in general. Go forth like you are a man/woman about town with doors opening on every side, in a professional manner.

So since I was 16 I’ve been looking for a job for two years and its been absolute pain tryna find one without even getting interviews or anything.
Then this video came out and I followed whats been told to do. BOOM, interview easy as that. Then iterated my point that I want to work during said interview. BOOM, phonecall on the same day.
Obviously in a case for me with it happening so quick might have been luck but you can’t deny the results so if anyones in the same position this videos absolutely fantastic.

Finding a job while still being young is right up my base! A couple of days ago I started working at a friends house with the yard and gardens. They are are around 50 years old and they are a great friend of my dad so my family hangs out with them a lot. Even though the pay is 5 dollars an hour, I stay very positive. I learn how to meddle with very tough weeds and get closer to insects I used to tremble at. I get a good workout raking grass or sitting and grabbing piles a rocks dug into the dirt. I know the pay is half the minimal wage, but I feel like I am helping out more in a way and learning things I can use at life. My first job got me to wake up early and get a nice breakfast, and I am excited for next time when I start to learn the ropes of painting the porch. The guy is getting older and going to the doctor more so it is perfect for me to get plenty of work till I can get a legitimate job.

"your aura dictates how people treat you" is one of the best pieces of advice for life in general. I've always had self confidence issues and am always second guessing myself. I watch a lot of movies and the people in suits always carry such a loud presence wherever they go. So I decided to invest in a suit and start to imitate the actions the characters do. Fake it till you make it right? I feel a lot more confident just by standing taller and making myself the most presentable that I can be. It really goes to show the power of your own self image, anyway. A great piece of advice as as soon as I started treating myself better, other people followed suit and treated me better too
