Never knew he played with Miles until someone showed me this clip last month. OMG! Joey was unbelievable! Can’t believe he’s gone! 51? Damn! At least my wife and I had the pleasure of seeing him @ South Jazz Restaurant last year. He made that organ sing! Plus played trumpet and sax on top of it! And that band he had was no joke either. He will sure be missed! May he R.I.P.😔🎹🎶🙏🏾🕊👍🏾
Miles had the best mathematical timing . He knew exactly when to interact with the other soloist, to cut off their break, at the necessary time. Like a band leader.
Never get tired of hearing Joey. We are lucky to be living in this time and see mind blowing legends. Each time I hear him, my consciousness melts with inability to comprehend savant musical abilities that astound and mesmerize. To hear Joey play is to experience a spiritual awakening and a shock release of endorphins. Left stunned and blissed each and every time.
We are going to miss Joey D!! RIP: Play on with the Ancestors!! If you somehow slept on Joey D you better take a dive into one of the greatest organ players. Jimmy Smitts, Larry Young, and Now Joey D!! Gone too soon - but never to be forgotten!!
Joey was a cute young boy, ambitious, unafraid in front of the great master, confident. I am so glad he was picked up Miles at that age. It must have been a super experience. Well done, Brother!
I use to hear Ricky on a regular basis with Chuck Brown in the DMV. There use to be a place in northern Virginia that Chuck performed. We would stay on the dance floor for almost a half an hour dancing to one song!
Foley, guitar solo? Great solo. I love Miles on this one and little Joey??? Wow. Ricky Wellman, incredible drummer (RIP) - Kenny Garett, flute & saxophones - I don’t recognize the other players … percussionist is incredible
And when the Saints come marching in, you can be sure that Joey will be with that number! Play on brother! We will miss you but fortunately we have a hefty record of your artistry.
Miles spent the last two decades of his life playing a genre of music that could only be called Miles Davis. It didn't fit neatly into jazz or rock. But one thing never changed for his whole career, and that was how he insisted on playing with the most talented and promising young musicians like Joey, Marcus Miller, etc. He had planned on working with Jimi and Michael Jackson, but it just didn't work out. If he had lasted a few more years, he might have worked with Tupac. Joey was a better musician for having worked with the master. And we're fortunate to have Joey's canon of fantastic and timeless albums to continue on after his death.
kuźwa tak patrzę...przecież ja byłem na tym koncercie... Powietrze aż spuchnięte od uwielbienia dla Milesa. I nie wiedziałem, że tam grał Francesco, zapamiętałem Foley'a
RIP Joey. Now he's playing in heaven with all the greats!

R.I.P. Joey. Heard him play with Miles. Didn't even know who he was. Such a talentful and tasteful musican. He'll be sorely missed.
The fact he's only 17 years old in this video is unreal
Whoa - didn't know he'd died. That's a shock.

Never get tired of hearing this iconic jazz piece.
Yup....I come back to it often, just to hear Joey just slaying it with the big dogs at 17!
This is the first time I enjoyed it. So much better than that cold stiff record in the 80s.
Lets not forget amazing Ricky Wellman on drums. Monster drummer! Died way too young at only 57.
Yes what a monster Ricky Wellman was I was lucky I got to witness this band.
kick sounds aggressive in the solos to me ....10 notes to the bass players 1...ijs

35 años después y el virtuosismo instrumental de los participantes todavía no ha sido superado.
Ricky "Sugarfoot Wellman" on drums. Ricky played with Chuck Brown, the Father of Go Go, in the DC area. Miles heard Ricky and the rest is history.
He's got an amazing snare roll.
...you could tell he felt like bustin' loose!!!!
