Larry, after watching this video for probably 3 times, I wanted to tell you that I have made this for countless times and my husband and I have really enjoyed it. Plus adding different veggies and meat makes it a new meal each time. Thank you. You are doing such good works for those of us who need to stretch a meal.
Au Gratin potatoes from a box were my absolute favorite as a kid, and still have a place in my heart. I will have to try this one! I pray for lots of healing and abundance for you and your family in 2024, Larry! Thanks for your awesome channel!
I am Harold, I too use a wheelchair for mobility. I was born with Spina Bifida & hydrocephalus. I use your channel to help me not only watch my pennies on common ordinary daily purchases of foods such as your frozen dinners but to also help me with ideas on recipes I can cook that are budget friendly. A comment you made in a recently uploaded video of your potatoes au gratin and hot dogs made me think of a quick easy and budget friendly snack idea. I think this would be excellent in the air fryer but due to its nature I think traditional deep frying might work better. I’d like to see you do a side by side comparison of the two frying techniques. First one being to air fry the potatoes once out use the packet of cheese to season the potatoes as well as make another portion using seasonings of your liking for anyone watching their salt. The second method , obviously deep frying and using the same seasoning method. The cheese packet and any other seasonings of your liking. I’d divide the potatoes into two portions per method one portion for the cheese to be added on top and the other for any other seasonings of your liking. Seasoning the potatoes would be easy, once each portion is divided out, place each portion in a bag and shake the each portion with the cheese and the other with whatever other seasonings you’d like. I’d experiment with ranch seasoning, bbq rub seasoning, of course the cheese packet that comes with the au gratin , ranch seasoning packets. The possibilities are endless. This video might possibly make you RUclips champion of the millennium. Especially with the stoners.
My mom always made scalloped potato casserole with a big box of scalloped potatoes with cheese with diced ham and a some canned peas always really good
In the 1950-60s, my carpenter father was out of work a lot. The anthracite region was a perpetually depressed economy, and the 1950s saw a few recessions. He calculated the cost of a ham, a turkey, etc., how many meals could be cooked from one whole "hunk" and then counted the cost of weekly meat purchases. It was far more economical to buy a whole turkey and base a week's meals of entrees, soups, and stews that could be cooked from it. As an elementary school child, I was impressed with his arithmetic skills. The economy of it could not be denied. We never did it, though. I don't know why. Later, butchers offered 1/2 cow meat sale packages that made sense, too. We never did that, either. I remember a heated argument over the initial outlay, the cost of a chest freezer, and the real possibility of the loss of the entire purchase in a freezer breakdown or an extended power outage. I swore I would grow up, get a good education, and not be what the "professionals" call "food deprived" ever again.
@@lilblackduc7312 I'm glad. But, remember, appliances of the 1950s were notoriously unreliable, and living where snowstorms took out power lines or window air conditions used by several hundred families at once caused power failures.

Glad to see you posted, haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope everything is going well. Looks like an interesting recipe. May have to try it, even though I'm single and it's hard to eat all that food.
I made this and it really is delicious. It’s amazing how good a meal you can make for such a low price. Thank you for making these eating on a budget videos. They are very helpful.
I grew up with this, my mother used to prepare as directed and a beautiful women on the back of the box named Betty told her to cut rope sausage into serving size pieces and insert it into the potato mixture just before putting it into the oven and I believe it said to reduce the temp by 25 degrees and increase the baking time when roasting meat in your potatoes. I still do this today but also add onions and peas. It never gets old.
Growing up these potatoes were a family favorite, we affectionately called them "cardboard potatoes." I love them so much, and yes I always have to eat an uncooked one too!

Grew up eating meals like this. Raised my two boys (by myself) on meals like this. Now they're not afraid to throw together what they have. Just reheated a crazy concoction tonight. Didn't starve. Didn't spend way too much at a fast food place and it was still probably healthier. Had vegetables in it. Lol.
I love fried potatoes and onions with kielbasa, so I know I’d love this too. Love the recipes you come up with. Simple and easy. My kind of cooking. Thanks for your videos.
Probably said this the last time this vid was up, but we used to have a dehydrated potato slice product like those Au Gratin potatoes too here in the UK, but it's one of them things I haven't seen in a long time, not sure if it's just cos I never looked for it, or because they haven't sold them here in all that time, but it's one of those childhood memories of a strange dry, powdery mess turning into something that was quite food-like... :P
Everytime I make the potatoes I gotta grab 1or 2 also. Like you said no taste but it's something I gotta do. Even as a kid I did it when my parents made them lol.
I am on a limited sodium diet and the sausage and potatoes have too much sodium for me. I'm going to try this by making the potatoes from scratch, with a low sodium cheese. I also have a low sodium sausage recipe. hoping it will taste as good as yours.
Made a cheesy Italian shell hamburger helper tonight! Didnt get home from work till 7pm. Cooked hamburger meat and added the rest. When I read cook 25 minutes I thought hmm? Spent alot of time on what I thought was a quick meal! 😂😅😂
TheWolfePit is showing that, even while on a budget, we the people can still take our entire families on frequent trips to flavor country.
We eat this at least once a month, sometimes twice.
This works very well; you can play endless variations on this theme.

We had bacon and mixed veggies in the freezer, and au gratin potatoes in the pantry, so I tried this recipe. Delicious. Thank you Mr. Wolfepit.
For me, I'd add onion, garlic and 3-4 eggs. Looks yummy! Good video.
I do this all the time. Some sort of meat, some kind of carb(pasta or rice) and some sort of sauce. Easy way to use up leftovers, 10/10

Going to try this recipe Sunday with left over ham.
You could easily do this with leftover ham from Christmas dinner. Pick up an extra ham at .79/lb everyone and throw it in your freezer if you can!

If you have any leftover / stale craft style chips they can be added in to your recipe to strech this

I would also add chopped green chili, onions, as well as red and green bell peppers. Just cuz l love all those things. Onions make everything better.
