The drinking in excess has been going on for three years. Just imagine my brain fog, fatigue, dehydration and generally feeling like hell. It's only been 10 days, but I went to Ketovore, eating mostly meat and eggs. The only other things I will eat are avocado, dill pickles and a few olives now and then. I have a quart of LMNT water every day. I can't tell you the drastic change in how I'm feeling in this short time. I'm surprised that I didn't have serious alcohol withdrawal but I did not. It not only helps your bank account, but it also helps your calorie count. This year I’ve made more of a committed effort to tracking calories, and in so doing, I realize a lot of my calories were coming from alcohol. I’m definitely going to continue working on reducing the amount of alcohol I drink. After all, wouldn’t it be better to do some thing that benefits my liver rather than do something that harms it?
Glad you mentioned kava. In Polynesia and Micronesia they’ve had quite a bit of success with getting people with alcohol abuse problems away from it with kava kava. They traditionally serve it as a “tea”, but it can be bought in dried herbal form. It’s relaxing and even helps with sleep. I personally find that cannabis (legal where I live) is an easy way to displace social drinking. I’m much less likely to over consume absent mindedly in social situations if I’ve had cannabis. CBD/THC tinctures into a mocktail works great socially too.
I'm 2.5 years alcohol free and I was thinking about doing the same thing. But then I punched myself in the face and woke my ass up. 'Just one drink' leads to more drinks. I'm never going back to that poison.
I would add to that the other big problem with alcohol is the addictive nature of it, that it actually rewires your brain to prefer alcohol and requires it, and increasingly large amounts for the same benefit or feeling. It comes with a dangerous future potential.

I decided to do a sober summer just to see how my body reacts. So far only 3 months in I feel great. Now i didn't really drink heavy, but even just a few beers it would wreck my sleep.
It would be cool if you could talk about mixing alcohol with food. I started waiting a couple hours after eating to have a glass of wine or two (once or twice a week). It feels like when you drink wine with your food, your liver doesn't know what to do with it. Even with beer (which I stopped drinking basically) after a meal, you just feel super bloated. A lot of people mix their food with alcohol, and i think it is a big mistake.
Kava dries out the skin and dehydrates too. Rhodolia is great but it's also a stimulant/antidepressant and coffee replacement. Some good tips but in my experience Kava can't be taken regularly, and Rhodalia may be best in a cycle as well.
I quit a daily 1,200 calorie diet of alcohol over a month ago. I haven't lost a single pound and I eat the same thing every day. I am going to try a 72 hour fast to see if I can see if it might reset something in my system. I figure it won't hurt to try. Other than hunger pains that is.
Every single time I've ever drunk, it's because of peer pressure. Not wanting to let people down. It's really hard to stop that urge to fit in.. so I usually avoid parties, going out to bars etc.
I'm going to try that hop water; looks very tasty. Shout out also to Athletic Brewing NA beers. They have a whole variety that is just delicious and really tastes like beer.
I love Athletic Brewing too. It’s not high in calories. One of my favorite alternatives is Hoplark - It’s a hop water that actually tastes like beer. Hop water just tastes like a La Croix.
One thing that caused me to gain a bunch of weight is the thought years ago that as long as I'm not drinking a sugarry cocktail it's not really that bad for you, whiskey straight is still just as bad in the long run, and if it means you're actually drinking more alcohol it's even worse.
I think youthful recovery superpowers mask a lot of the harmful effects in younger athletes. Look at guys like Jon Jones. I was top state level athlete (BJJ) in my early 20's and definitely did my share of binge drinking. These days at 48 I wear a whoop to track sleep and I can see a quantifiable impact on my sleep quality, which is recovery, and the quality of my training the next day after only 2 beers in the evening. So I quit. And... here come abs again.
i only drink 1-2 times aweek, hasn't effected fitness levels at all but yes at a point drinking can if moderation is tossed to the wind.... it also has more or less has to do with "what" your consuming, i primarily stick with dry red wines, straight hard liquor, and fermented beers (the fermentation kills the phytoestrogens, while i'm not a big beer drinker if i'm wanting to have a beer this is a good go to, think of fermented/sprouted grains vs. commercial)
Quite impressive but HOW!!?😊 I know it's possible, my colleague at work always get 40K every week, I would appreciate if you show me how to go about it.
I've been trying to quit for a couple years now. Since the first of the year, I had gotten my alcohol consumption down to about once per week, maybe a little more. I'll typically go a week or two no alcohol and then, due to some life stressor, binge drink 2-3x in four or five days. Recently I had a very bad binge of 15 days out of three weeks. It completely killed my running. I couldn't go a hundred yards without my calves and hamstrings fatiguing to the point of failure, painfully. Similar to a cramp, they would just seize up. After just fifteen days, I lost so much upper body strength, and my fitness level plummeted. I will never do this again. Now, ten days later, I'm at least running three miles. Slowly, but I'm getting through it. My upper body strength has barely started to recover. Just awful!

I'm so glad I never drank alcohol. I'm not gonna lie, I smoke alot of marijauna and from all my observations it makes zero difference to my health and fitness.
The benefits in wine come from the antioxidants which you can get from healthier sources, plus the alcohol pretty much cancels out the effects of those anyway
@@thefreshprinceofnohair9703 But alcohol is just so easy breezy to access ~ no “chasing” or doctor shopping involved. Not only is drinking accepted in mainstream society, it’s celebrated & expected of you. Madness! Legalise weed & let’s smoke trees & stop with the liquid poison please 💯
@@thefreshprinceofnohair9703 it absolutely does have the potential to be just as if not more harmful as those other drugs, you just perceive it as being less bad just because it's legal and socially acceptable and it's constantly marketed as a good thing so it's "grandfathered" in as an acceptable substance just like sugar, if alcohol were discovered today it would be a schedule 1 drug
I smoke weed after a workout, helps me settle down and eat within 30 mins, without, I wouldn't be able to at least 2.5 hours post workout. I wonder if there's any research in relation to muscle building interactions, personally, it doesnt seem to be affecting my growth hormone and testosterone levels.
I used to drink a bottle of wine daily and gained a bunch of weight! I realized i was starting to have a problem and cut back tremendously! Initially, it was not easy! I was very surprised how many friends/associates were NOT SUPPORTIVE!!! If we went out, they would pressure me to take shots because they wanted a drinking buddy. One person said youre not an alcoholic yet, so drink up! 🙄 Anyways, i stopped hanging around certain people and only drink on occasion. Right now I'm trying to find more friends who dont drink and a few workout buddies so that im not sitting at home lonely.
I thought it’ll be worse than that. Like “you’ll lose all your muscle if you drink” and such. Well, I don’t know about that. Maybe we are all different. Maybe it’s different for people who “practice” a lot. But I had my best workouts after I drank close to a fifth of vodka the previous day. 😊
I stop drinking for a month as well as doing pretty strict keto, and I didn’t lose any weight. The only thing I can figure is my post menopausal hormones are completely screwed. And I do take tryptophan instead of L theanine , as well as magnesium and a ashwaganda. Also, NAC + glycene in powder form since it’s supposed to relax you. If I really can’t sleep, I’ll also too tiny drop of melatonin. Seems like I need a lot of stuff to replace alcohol to help me sleep. Well, anyway, not sure why I am sharing all this because I’m not having success with not drinking.
Quality beer under 5% alc is healthy for me, I thrive with it. What matters is results. Talk about the tangible results. It's not about being non-sober, it's about prudent sober consumption of beer, wine, and a bit liquor(medicinal doses in regard to liquor).
I replaced the alcohol with flyers cocktails. I drink 2 or 3 a night and they will make you chill out and make sleep good after 2. They creep up on you slow though.
Kava Tudei strains are hepatoxic but noble strains aren't. The misconception of hepatoxicity also comes from a study that lab screened certain inferior brands products that used leaf and stem of Tudei strains and noble strains (you only want the root) and had wayy more saponins in it resulting in hepatoxicity. My favourite is vanatu boronguru it's the best for chilling. Fijian strains are too stimulating for me
I occasionally use Kava oil from Tru Kava for anxiety, or if I am craving a drink. However I find that when I used the recommended dose (1-2 full droppers) I would get a headache, so I use 1/2 of a dropper. I would love to get the benefits and longer lasting effects by using more, but obviously see the headaches as a side effect. I wonder if anyone has experienced this with Kava? and I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks.
It would be helpful to know how long all of these effects last in the body. He only told us for one effect it lasts till the next day. Not everyone wants to give up alcohol entirely, so timing alcohol vs workouts could be important
It's kinda shocking just how much one glass can effect recovery, glycogen storage, and endurance sports. I've really cut back this last summer (and now into fall). One drink takes several days to fully recover from. I'm not staying I'll never drink again, but I am now going to think hard about whether that drink is worth it
I was never a big drinker... didn't even try alcohol till I was 19 years old... and I'm honest about it - it doesn't taste good. No one ever took their first drink of alcohol (or first drag off a cigarette) and said, "OMG THAT'S THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Eventually I realized, about 8 years ago, that I don't like it and I don't need it at all... don't miss it one bit.
Some athletes like alcohol for the dehydration, vasodilation, carb count, and the painkiller-depressant effects. It's an interesting drug to add to a stack.
I do keto 6 days a week and have been doing this for over 9 months. I have noticed after I eat carbs on my day off, I feel something off with my heart, like palpitations. Does any one else have this issue? It's been ongoing for months and I am thinking of quitting keto altogether cause it freaks me out. I was in the hospital a few months ago with myocarditis which was triggered on my keto off day. I start eating carbs Friday night and Saturday morning I was in the hospital with mycarditis. I am suspecting there was a connection but I am not sure.
I think beer, and almost all alcohol (except some sweet wines) taste nasty. I really have almost zero interest in it, and I hate being around drunk people.

Alcohol is fine in moderation especially if you drink a night before a rest day and don't over do it. Live a little. If you are in a deficit and successfully completed a 5-6 day 6.5-8 hour gym week and want to go to happy hour and you don;t plan on going to the gym the next, it's not a huge deal. If you go out and drink the night before a scheduled gym day and can't control the hormones that get triggered when drinking to not bing eat shit food? then no, don't touch it. Me? I'm extremely disciplined so I don't touch pizza or garbage food when I drink. So it really only biologically effects my sleep and I'm on TRT so kind of negates any siginificant drops in test.

If you are capable of drinking moderately, which is one to two drinks a day for men and one for women, then you are fine. It may even be healthy. Those that enjoy a glass of red wine or a shot of whisky or whatever need not worry.
Looked into the studies after Andrew huberman said data shows even moderate drinking has a negative effect on the brain, he was correct even drinking in moderation the brain ages and loses volume faster than non drinkers

NA is often still very high in calories though. Worth checking out before drinking.
I quit 2 years ago, at 51 feel the healthiest I have in my life
Me too Christina! 3 years strong 💪

i only drink 1-2 times aweek, hasn't effected fitness levels at all but yes at a point drinking can if moderation is tossed to the wind.... it also has more or less has to do with "what" your consuming, i primarily stick with dry red wines, straight hard liquor, and fermented beers (the fermentation kills the phytoestrogens, while i'm not a big beer drinker if i'm wanting to have a beer this is a good go to, think of fermented/sprouted grains vs. commercial)

Quite impressive but HOW!!?😊 I know it's possible, my colleague at work always get 40K every week, I would appreciate if you show me how to go about it.

As always right on point Thomas, thank you!
It just posted then you commented haven't had a chance to watch it.
Just awful!
be encouraged... when some of us binge it's every single day until we bottom out enough to change again
You know what also stops fat loss? Candy. Haven't had a Skittle in about 5 years and still going strong! I don't miss those sugar crashes.
Can't scarf junk food, can't binge drink, dang it guess I'll have to actually go to therapy and face my problems ugh I don't wanna don't make me LMAO
I really don't think 1 glass of wine per week has a negative effect on my weight loss goals.
Negligible. But no amount is good. Data is now showing any alcohol is detrimental. Moderation is the gateway
@@ThomasDeLauerOfficial Idk. I have found Moderation to be the best long term solution in just about everything challenging thing in life. It's just harder than abstinence
Trashmanzero, Let us know how your moderate use of cocaine and meth-amphetamine works out.
@@ThomasDeLauerOfficial I understand your point. I enjoy wine tasting but don't consider myself a drink. About 6 -9 ounces per week is my limit. Thanks for responding to my comment.
I'm so glad I never drank alcohol. I'm not gonna lie, I smoke alot of marijauna and from all my observations it makes zero difference to my health and fitness.
as long as your blood pressure and hormone levels are looking good. And does it improve spiritual health (knowing Jesus) or hinder?
What about a glass of red wine with dinner from time to time?
I've also heard that fermented foods are helpful. Does that include red wine?
The benefits in wine come from the antioxidants which you can get from healthier sources, plus the alcohol pretty much cancels out the effects of those anyway
Thomas, I would love to see your take on some of the NA drinks with adaptogens in them...anything we need to know?
Ive been drinking Kambucha when i have that craving for a drink...is that better?
Alcohol is the worst drug of them all
Heroin exists
@@thefray123 Alcohol does much more harm overall to society and is accepted by most people
Alcohol is definitely bad but it’s not even close to being as harmful as meth , cocaine ,opioids ect
@@thefreshprinceofnohair9703 it absolutely does have the potential to be just as if not more harmful as those other drugs, you just perceive it as being less bad just because it's legal and socially acceptable and it's constantly marketed as a good thing so it's "grandfathered" in as an acceptable substance just like sugar, if alcohol were discovered today it would be a schedule 1 drug
alcohol makes fasting very difficult , on my 2nd time quitting it for good! ❤
Fantastic video Thomas! Very informative and educational. I stopped drinking years ago. Alcohol didn't do anything more and I got bored of the taste.
Must have some Russian in ya😂
@@chadillac42069 Czech. But close enough :D
I am not a drinker but do every once and a while. Great information
I love Athletic Brewing NA beers. Guinness also makes a great NA.
Those are my two go-to NA beers!
Insanely uncanny this pops up JUST as I Crack open a beer at 10a.m.
You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning.
I stop drinking 16days ago. I’m never gonna drink again in my life
Thanks
Kava Tudei strains are hepatoxic but noble strains aren't. The misconception of hepatoxicity also comes from a study that lab screened certain inferior brands products that used leaf and stem of Tudei strains and noble strains (you only want the root) and had wayy more saponins in it resulting in hepatoxicity.
My favourite is vanatu boronguru it's the best for chilling. Fijian strains are too stimulating for me
I have cut way back, but a couple beers once in a while are nice
36 hours
It's kinda shocking just how much one glass can effect recovery, glycogen storage, and endurance sports. I've really cut back this last summer (and now into fall). One drink takes several days to fully recover from. I'm not staying I'll never drink again, but I am now going to think hard about whether that drink is worth it
I appreciate these consistent alcohol issues .
I keep seeing them and just seeing the thumbnail reminds me to stop.
I was never a big drinker... didn't even try alcohol till I was 19 years old... and I'm honest about it - it doesn't taste good. No one ever took their first drink of alcohol (or first drag off a cigarette) and said, "OMG THAT'S THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Eventually I realized, about 8 years ago, that I don't like it and I don't need it at all... don't miss it one bit.
I liked my first cig, then it got boring....
Now that the Bond movies and beer commetcials have gone bunk I longee feel the urge.
Some athletes like alcohol for the dehydration, vasodilation, carb count, and the painkiller-depressant effects. It's an interesting drug to add to a stack.
Solid gold info!!
All of my favorite and most respected RUclipsrs in business, performance and health DO NOT DRINK.
This scientific approach is great! 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Went AF almost 4 years ago in August. It's hard at first, but worth it 😊
I think beer, and almost all alcohol (except some sweet wines) taste nasty. I really have almost zero interest in it, and I hate being around drunk people.
I gave it up 2 years ago, I miss wine.
I’m 3 years sober and loving it
Great video 👍
Thank you!!!
The body is trying to flush out a toxin, the last thing you want to do is add things to alcoholic drinks to promote water retention
How come I could stay in shape drinking a lot of alcohol in my 20s but if I do the same thing now I just get fat?
Slower metabolism is my guess
@@FuzzyNinja21 I went on carnivore for 2 months and lost 15 kgs- now I'm the same weight as my 20s. Lapsed a fair bit on the diet in the last few weeks as well but my weight hasn't gone up. It's stabilised for now.
Wine cooler if filled with expensive wines……do I throw them out? What about red wines?
Almost 1 year of no alcohol and never going back. Lost 60 lbs, feel amazing.
Stick to cannabis kids.

Yes to fasting, No to Alcohol
Ok but the video is about athletic performance, not fat loss
I used to even go running drunk, 10 mile runs, bringing wine
We all know beer is terrible but what about Whiskey or Tequila on the rocks?
Alcohol is poison no matter what form you take it in
All alcohol consumption is bad
I was losing like 5 pounds in a week and then I would gain it all back after one Saturday from drinking alcohol
no to gatorade booze drink substituting lol down with alcohol!!!

You can drink with all u got . The numbing effects are just that. It hides the true u. Numbs it to were u don't notice it, so u don't know anything wrong, so it doesn't get fixed.

How about non alcoholic beer?
There are really good NA beers now
Does it have the same impact on your body? I know you have to account for the carbs and calories . I am trying to quit drinking but enjoy the taste
If you are capable of drinking moderately, which is one to two drinks a day for men and one for women, then you are fine. It may even be healthy. Those that enjoy a glass of red wine or a shot of whisky or whatever need not worry.
Sorry but the data doesn’t support this. The larger meta analyses area quite clear than NO AMOUNT is healthy

That's been debunked
@@Ashclayton1994 It has not been debunked. They've found that moderate drinking does not reduce life span.
Looked into the studies after Andrew huberman said data shows even moderate drinking has a negative effect on the brain, he was correct even drinking in moderation the brain ages and loses volume faster than non drinkers
I have a massive alcohol problem and i used to be jaccked n shredded like you. 5 yrs has made me a completely soft idiot
Just try cutting down I workout 6 days out of the week but I still get my drink on in the weekend. Usually have a 12 pack of beer every Saturday. And I have a very clean diet. I look good but I know I can be better. Good luck to you.
I fear electrolytes and creatine mixed with alcohol will give awful stomach bloat, cramps and even diarrhea.
