I grew up dribbling on a sloped lawn so i became a shooter instead. It's what you make of it. We have excellent sports infrastructure here in Belgium and it's not expensive to gain access. I've been renting an indoor court for 12 years now. The hourly rate is 9 euros so if you gather 10 guys that's less than €1/player, per game. The weather has been amazing too. I went outside to the park to shoot at least 50 times in july and august. Don't let yourself make too many excuses. No access to an indoor court and it's raining? Do some strength training, it carries over well and can be done anywhere.
@@WadaMalone good too hear bro very inspirational 🙏🏽🙏🏽 , but i dont even have 10 friends who ball too run games hahaha but i got 1 friend who i practice a lot with , we also started doing the indoors court which is 6€ an hour but we cant afford to do it on a regular basis but yeah still on the grind no excuse , cuz there’s probably a random kid with basketball dreams in a poor country who struggles even mor than me or sum shit so no excuses
Really great video for kids trying to figure out how to workout on their own without needing parents or trainers to always guide them. And great points at the end. Thanks for making these. One question - for ball handing, do you recommend any particular strength training exercises for players finishing middle school and entering high school? Good luck at Dyckman!
Not sure if you mean what strength training I did in high school but I just followed our strength coaches plan. I wouldn’t worry too much about how much you can lift, that’ll come naturally. Focus the most on your skill
@@jordanmccabe7554 Thanks! Sorry I was way too vague. Wasn’t thinking about lifting free weights but more whether kids entering high school should start building up arm strength (e.g., hand strength and forearm strength) in conjunction with working on ball handling skills, or just keep working on ball handing and pounding the ball with and without a weighted ball? Always appreciate you comments and suggestions!
@@kareem7419 well Jordan is playing at a D1 level and he focuses 5 mins to dribbling so that’s probably fine. And of course dribbling is incorporated throughout a proper workout. So 5 mins dedicated to dribbling also make sure you’re going hard I had a trainer and when they were training me I didn’t go hard when doing dribbling it was too hard (not really if you really have any will to do it) and he just made me redo it. So make sure you’re dribbling hard pounding the ball into the court.
Good stuff Jordan, thanks for posting. I see wayyyy too many clowns out there posting like 10 ridiculous dribble move combos as a "workout". Those are fun of course, but until you can hit an open jumpshot 10/15, what are they even doing? Good to see the focus on shooting, coming off screens, and actual useful warm up dribbling.
hell yea man i love to hear people improving ive never really played basketball until this year going into 12th and only played at the rec center and its only been about 2-3 months since ive started playing never played under a whistle trying to learn as much as possible tbh im getting pretty good progress im basiclly a lockdown defender probably due to my 3 years of football and being a faster player on the court but on offense im a mid range shooter
You'd make an immensely great trainer in the future bro.. jus like how Former NBA Player, Darren Collison, does his "Pro Vision" basketball program to train the top youth prospects rn
Will always be a huge fan of the game but during the pandemic kinda lost my love for playing it especially since I been getting older with real life responsibilities now being 21 but man seeing this dude putting in work really makes me wanna start hoopin again

Great video. The dummy Di is better than most pick up denfence. And the best part is about the quality of the training. D1 level is 10+/13 on catch and shoot, that's the minimum requirement for pro basketball. It helps the young kid to learn about the skill cap before they move to more advanced training.
Thanks bro for this video! Really useful stuff. I am a girl and I play U15 in school and clubs, most of the times I am a shooter but I gotta improve my drills, steps and some basic dribbles and layups. I get very nervous and lose my steadiness and balance when the defender plays a serious defense against me , and I am trying to figure out how to fix this problem( I think this is more about my fear than my techniques
initiate contact with the defender(pretty much force the defender to off balance instead of the other way around) I recommend you check out "how to finish like sharife cooper" its a youtube video that taught me how to do this consistently.
My 15 year old daughter is similar. Shoots great when in the gym and when playing against me, but put her in 5 on 5 and gets nervous or loses confidence. Been tough getting her past it as well. Wish I had an answer for you, but she hasn't gotten past it yet either. You're certainly not alone though

Keep up the grind, I’m a 5’9 white guard, so what you have been able to do is very inspiring, especially because I know how hard the grind is. Any in game tips that you use to make up for your size?
As an undersized guard you need to be great at everything, especially finishing on bigger players (I like floaters), playmaking, shooting, ball handling, and defense
First off ..you're not white- you're just a basketball player. Mentioning that sounds like your are prefacing a caveat for an excuse. Ya gotta lose that mind set. the color of your skin doesn't matter - if you are mentioning it, then it means it does matter in your mind - and you're own mind can be your worst enemy. There is a lot floor space on a regulation bball court. while not gifted vertically you can excel in taking up floor space - baseline to baseline -ya gotta be quick and you have to have excellent cardio. Don't practice half court -practice the whole court. Use both baskets and get good at running. Do sprints -get fast and quick-
