Would be interesting to have a similar pod on pundits and punditry imo. How do shows like MOTD, MNF etc. affect footballers, do the older guys have to put an arm round the younger lads? Are there certain people you listen to and certain people you blank? Do you go back to watch them if you’re the live TV game? When you’re in a struggling team or a team with lesser expectations (eg watford v liverpool) does it impact you differently to being in the ‘big team’ like Utd?
In terms of half time team talks, I remember a story about the great Graham Taylor, Watford were losing 2-0 away in the FA Cup against a team 1 or 2 divisions lower and we were terrible. The players came into changing rooms expecting a bollocking and Taylor let them stew for 10 minutes. Then he walks in and the players could see he was seething and his team talk was simple...he looked at them and said "You got us into this mess, now you get us out of it." - game finished 2-2.

Would love a podcast with a Kitman next, someone like Vic Akers from Arsenal or Graham Carter from Liverpool. They must have tons of stories/behind the scenes info they could share
As a sales person for a football club, managers often come see most if not all departments. Sales teams for hospitality and events often keep the club afloat during pre seasons and the team work from clubs behind The scenes really is mesmerising… you wouldn’t think so much goes on 😅
Absolutely love this mate. Your behind the scenes of how the game truly is; just amazing. I agree as well sir. The system a true manager implements is how a team grows. From top to bottom. Because it’s a system everyone buys into. I think that’s why Nigel Pierson did so well at both Lester and Watford. Ran the club from top to bottom so everyone knew what was expected from them.
Never watched one of these podcasts, I just painted a hall way and it was ace just listening to you guys talk and wondering off about other things lol thanks guys
Bit late to this episode, but my Spotify wrapped had your podcast as my favourite and most listened too… which is extremely weird as I watch it on RUclips too! Addicted, love it boys❤️
I'm just beaming as all I'm hearing is Ralf Ragnick is the perfect manager for Man utd right now. Coupled with the experience and authority in the squad (namely Ronaldo) I severely hope he's the manager next season. Love these podcasts, always so thought provoking.
@@CorridorJ How wrong was I? I swear Luke Shaw saw this exact comment and told them to muck about just to spite me. My heads currently in a hole BTW and I fainted to due to much embarrassment in regards to my original comment.
For me, knowledgeable, clear communicator, fair and equitable, takes the shit but deflects the praise, considers everyone’s opinion but makes his own decisions, is human or personable, sets the example it’s not about leading it’s about questioning peoples ability to follow, is adaptable and agile and able to change, jack of all trades and master of none so to speak. Remains current, sets people up to succeed, personal individual targets that contribute to the greater good. A straight talker
The post about being subbed makes so much sense. At West Ham, Pellegrini in his second year started subbing Felipe Anderson early in the second half almost every game. He was rarely having a bad game but he seemed to be the scapegoat for the entire performance not being up to scratch, even though most our issue was Roberto having a nightmare between the sticks every game. But I've always felt it was the beginning of Andersons downfall as he seemed to just perform worse and worse from that point, so much that when Moyes came in, he picked up a bit but just didn't quite seem the same player and clearly Moyes saw things he wasn't happy with.
Manager transfers are already happening. A year and a half ago Sporting (Portugal) paid almost 15 million euros for Rúben Amorim's release clause (he was at Braga). And to put it into context, it was roughly the same amount they paid for their most expensive player in History. And it was one million percent worth it. He transformed the club. On his first full season at the club, he took Sporting to the first League title in 19 years and he won the League Cup. He did it with many Academy players and local "cheap" signings. The squad's market value went through the roof! This season, Sporting knocked out Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League group stage and got into the last 16 only for the second time since the 80's. He is also the absolute best communicator the club ever had. So what seemed an absurd amount of money to pay at the time, turned out to be the best investment ever made. By the way, LOVE THE POD! Keep it up guys!
Great podcast, really interesting to hear about behind the scenes stuff. Re half time talks, John Sitton half time at Leyton Orient is the pinnacle of half time team talks. There's a couple of them on you tube.
The one that I'd really be interested to hear about (as an Albion fan) is Pepe Mel. We obviously know...bits...but I wondered how it felt from a player level. As ever, brilliant show. Ben, you're a natural at this.
Very Agile you guys are and damn good at it. Great entertainment and I bet the tv networks are hating this. If I was head of a studio I would be creating a channel called Pod and taking a diverse and eclectic mix approach.
Love it guy's! Quick question, when are you guys going to start selling merch? Ie stickers , mugs, t-shirts etc? Defo stickers if you want something little to test the waters. A few different types. Much love as per
Ben, please try get into punditry. I think you and Micah Richards would be class together. We need more relatable people on TV/Media. You’re actually a very interesting person, people like you for your authenticity!
So I would love to know the difference between going out on loan to a manger who wanted the loan and how that plays with the lads versus the forced upon loan and how the lads treat the incoming player.
Im 14 and last year I started coaching through my local non league team and i’m seriously looking at making a living from it in the future whether that be as a manager or coaching staff and this honestly gave me a good insight , cheers
Another fantastic episode Fozzy and Rhino Legs, and a top guest in Tubbbbessss! What's happened to the pod studio? Not been in there for this or the Wright interviews. Love it, though - keep it going with the class content!
Great Pod as always👍 on the subject of managers being brought for a fee as you would a player. Bayern Munich brought Nagalsmann out his contract at Leipzig for around 20 million. So it’s definitely something that could become the norm in the future for sure. Keep up the great work! UP THE FOZCAST
It would be awesome to get an old manager on who’s not in the game anymore who can just be open about the situations with staff and players and owners that a manager in the game would have to be more closed about
Amazing Fozcast 👍10 out of 10. Think you would make a great goalkeeper coach you have a great chilled out attitude but a real competitive streak. Would love to see a preseason game on a triangle pitch 😂.
Funny manager story. Steve McMahon Banned me from the Swindon training ground after he found out I am an Arsenal fan. I had gone to meet up with Frank Tallia he had always been nice before. So I gave him the old 1 minute and waited outside.
Triangular pitches encourage forward passing as opposed to sideways passing. Imagine you are in a corner of the triangular pitch. You have only a 60 degree angle in which you can pass the ball without it going out instead of the normal 180 degrees. Your ability to pass sideways left or right has been removed.
I appreciate Ben knows more footballers than I do. But I’m friends with several premiership footballers (all in the same team) and have all recently had their manager sacked. Downing tools does exist. Other than that, this is my favourite podcast.
How are you finding life under Claudio Ranieri? With Watford signing Maduka Okoye and your contract up in the summer are you worried your contract will not be renewed. If it is not renewed what is your next move?
Thanks for having me boys, loved it 👊🏻💙⚽️

What a great episode. Incredible insight. Subbed.
With manager transfers It kinda already is a thing with it happening to celtic when we got 10 mil for Rodgers leaving from LCFC
Really enjoyably pod 🙌

Are triangular pitches a sensible thing given that the game patterns are very much played in triangles? Just a thought
