This was 11 years ago, it just popped up in my recommended haha
Same here
Same
thenugget CREW same

Same 😂
His accent confuses me so much, it’s like a mix of American, Australian and Irish all at once
It's a Kiwi accent that's slowly losing to an American accent! Hahaha
Rhys is a kiwi. He left New Zealand to live in the U.S when he was about 17.(approximately 30yrs ago)His accent has slowly changed most likely because Americans struggle to understand a full on Kiwi accent.
I don't see this as a failure! He just did an EPIC backflip in a stadium truck and walked away from it. That's a 10/10 from me!!
Also, I appreciate the technical detail they went into in the video, even if no one else did.

I met this dude in DC at a GRC event in 2013, what a genuinely nice guy! He took the time to stop and take a picture and even commented on my macho man shirt.
I like how Rhys' explanation for crashing again was that "WE were 1.. possibly 2 mph too fast...." not "I was 1.. possibly 2 mph too fast..."
That's what happens when you have way too big of a head...
Ya but he says that when he succeeds too. It's the team. Motorsports are team sport.
@@ero9685 Na it's what happens when you work with a team and acknowledge their role in your success and failure.
My thoughts on this, are, under shoot the rotation, then gun the motor to bring the rear down. Also when the rear tires hit, it will stabilize by pulling the truck forward rather then simply bouncing around when it lands. Also, why is the landing ramp so hard packed? It should have some softer dirt on it, with a bit more sand probably.
Have you considered, adjustable shock damping that can be changed in the air? So you have more rebound setup for the initial takeoff from the ramp, but then dial in more compression and less rebound for the landing.

My RUclips recommended page: _quieres?_
how come no one noticed the right side of the truck was always landing first ? why didn't they correct that balance ?
stephane Z I think that has to do with the Twork of the driveshaft, nothing you can really do about that.

Matter oh lol 😆 whoops
THEY CANT
try throwing your phone like a backflip it will never go over straight
Bravo my friend- we watched and prayed for you! well done and a triumph for all the incredible effort by everyone-

Did u remember this comment sir?
Ancient comment
Less talking, more flipping.
i was there for his practice jumps,
and that was MY 300c SRT8 drifting in the airplane hanger
so much fun...
such a bummer that he didnt make the landing new years eve...
I feel like this takes no talent just engineering talent
RHETTIRO same
R u binge watching
RHETTIRO i wanna see you do that
12 years ago.... Cant belive it.
especially the "Devils Eyes" style BMW angel eyes.
After 11 years I've finally figured the trucks rotation and bad landing was exactly the same as it landed in the practice jumps. It lands at an angle on 3 wheels. Exactly the same. Thanks 11 year old RUclips.
Add simple cruise control and you will have the best speed any time
Why couldn't they just set a governor on the car so that he wouldn't go over the required speed?
+puterjames That would make it too easy...
puterjames because he isn't a fat lazy American
Cuz then a fish could do it
puterjames p
pete a No, an American would have landed it.😂😂😂😂
I love how at 6:05 the dude wants to grab the helmet but fails xd
never give up on a dream fliping a car is awesome i would love to have the resources to just jump a car
red bull gives you wings
Lmaoo
and im loving the Chrysler 300 SRT-8. Rhys is the man.
this is 8 year new fottage
11 year*
I would call that a success with a combination of absolute courage.
@Lovetomcat: Yes that is the right keyword. Even though he was too fast at the final attempt they might have been able to avoid the rolling over. If the engine rotation speed (rpm) changes while the car is in the air there will be a momentum around the longitudinal axis of the car (as I presume the engine is mounted longitudinally in the car), so it will spin a bit in a barrel roll manner. I can't see how they missed this but appearantly they have since it was never mentioned in the video.
I guess they haven’t thought about limiters 11 years ago 😂
Damn!!!! 10 YEARS!
This is why you should pay attention in maths class! I love it!
@inwardHD and a pretty good understanding and application of physics. Note the parabola on a napkin: 2:55
Who else got this in there recommended eleven years later it was posted
The hangar he drifts the 300c in is the one from the bf goodrich advert with Samuel Hubinette.
I love that they had queen playing in the background hahaha
Interesting to see what Red Bull forces people to do
When I saw the thumbnail i was like "Wait what happened to Travis' Subaru"
Red Bull gives you wings !!
I like how at 4:38 the song thats playing in the background before the big jump is "under pressure"
THAT'S A BEAST TRUCK!
amazing cooool
I know how they were talking about how the angle of the car from the side had caused the crash but it really was the right side hitting first.
travis' jump tonight is going to be so sick!!!
simple: the two clips in the ramp dont open simultaneous, its loose the horizontal level
I'm sure this has already been mentioned, but why not a "governor" like the Indy cars use on their pit lane? That eliminates one element of driver error and allows the driver to concentrate on the approach.
Ive never been this late
This isn't even a challenge... It's literally just the ramp and suspension set up. All he's doing it pressing the go pedal until it flips him.
R.I.P you .. :(
Great job. The merit is on the trying!!
Who else just got recommended new footage from 11 years ago
How about internally fitting a high-momentum gyroscope, with its rotational axis parallel to the rear transmission axis. With enough momentum, it could make the truck land evenly on its rear wheels
@Andreaslillfreakact it hits the landing, and you might notice that in all the practice videos it starts to get off axis just before landing in the padding area. Also while in the air the driver might be able to correct for this by steering and using the gyro effect of the rotating tires to correct the roll angle of the car, like how motocross riders do huge whips over jumps. I think they are really close, they just need to think of some way to ultimately reduce the margin for error.
“Cruise controle” THATS IT!!
Damn cant believe this was 11 years ago
looking back at this the crash, happened because it twisted in the air, and landed on the right first, need a tripple backflip soon.
SICK!
He has a mint life!!!!
@inwardHD also hitting the ramp right speed and not smashing the suspension down on the wheels when you hit the ramps
the top of the ramp unlatches when the front tires go over it and it gives the back tires a different launch angle, without that the truck wouldnt do a backflip it would only do about half a backflip
keep tryin dude!!!!
new footage, 8 years old...
@inwardHD ...and some balls of steel...
go redbull. .
Comment if you are watching in 2107
This was so long ago and it showed up on my for u page
@inwardHD Don't forget pressing the throttle of your preferably american truck, so there isn't even a need to shift!
@Andreaslillfreakact You may be on to something, but I think they could have pulled it off with the setup they used. They just need to make the margin for error smaller by doing something like making the takeoff less steep so the vehicle flips following a lower trajectory or making the landing point higher up. Also the driver might have been able to drive away from that if only he had counter steered at the landing. You will notice the truck starts to kilter off the roll axis just before
@RyanOwens1995 no, the car has no way of slowing down except to let off the gas, so if you go down a hill you will speed up. cruise control cant brake
I LOVE all the couch warriors putting in their suggestions. Red bull is a multi million dollar company who damn sure has their best foot forward, your halfwit in put does not come close to
this guy sure knows how to push the throttle pedal. -_-
Are you dumb?
skaterTH1312
yep
phil d If he used to much throttle then he would have risked crashing.
when i parrarel parked my car this morning, i used just the good amount of throttle to avoid crashing into other cars. nobody said a word... skaterTH1312
gimme my redbull
I saw the beginning and I was like NO WAY A SMART CAR BACKFLIP!?!?!?!

that card board is a good makeshift foam pit lmfao :D
@chjrparish1 10 years it's been on the market... even a cooler roadster/cab has been availlable 2003-2006, that is discontinued.
travis would do it
Travis would do it?? why don't you do a little research and learn about the motorcycle front flip ramp travis built, not for him to perform, but for someone else..............read up on it, and see what happened to that guy.....
steve ducell I can't find anything
well, dang it, I can't find it either.............Anyways, Travis designed this odd motorcycle ramp that at the very top would make the motorcycle flip forward...........His friend practiced and during its public debut, Travis's friend landed just slightly off. Initially he appeared OK. He landed in such a way that, he simply slid backward off of the seat, landed squarely on his butt, with is legs extended out, as if, no big deal.
Unfortunately, he crushed, fractured several vertabrae and is paralysed from the waist down. He will never recover, although his father built and designed an atv and motorcycle that he is able to ride.
The ramp, to my knowledge, was never used again.
It is interesting that I don't see any info or vids on the internet about it. I do remember channel surfing the tv and happened to stumble across a whole show about this episode............strange
It was Bruce Cook
Tyler Morrison yes he would 😃
Should have met up with the Monster Jam drivers, they been backflipping long before his attempt
hey that could be a good thought cuz the guys on the dirt bikes and four wheelers use the torque to help it turn
What's the point of being the first when you're trying to control every single variable from speed, to take off, to landing? There's no risk, or fear, or excitement. It's definitely not the way people used to push the limits
+Malone Ahern .. essentially the driver is just ballast , they could do this all with RC .
+Malone Ahern how else would you successfully backflip that thing?
@grimlind no -___- and cruise control doesnt slow you down, it only speeds you up when you need to
Dont give up...
Drifting the 300 hun was awsome
"New footage"
Me watching this in 2020🗿
Blackflip a offroad truck takes some balls.. Got speed buddy..
Red bull👍👍👍👍
for all those people saying this takes to skill, well u it isnt just driving striaght, u need to know the exact speed u need to be going, when to break in the air, and trying to figure out the correct measurment of the landing!
@Gymnist578 thats true but it was the lighter side that sunk in to make him fail
those are some nice angel eyes on that 300
Dude. Get up and try it again.
nice jump
I can do that hold my beer.
Hold my beer! I got this......
it was soo sick
:P
OMG!!!!
@drummerdudex023 Well the driver adds weight to one side... Might've been good for them to add a weight to the other side to balance, or nearly balance it out. The collapsing piece at the top might be a little at an angle. The truck's takeoff could be affected if the wheels weren't straightly aligned to the ramp. Lots of factors. As for why it ALWAYS lands on the two right wheels, maybe the guy has a preference of approaching slightly from the left.
Late December 2019
you can make cruise control as sensitive as you want, surprised they dont use electronic speed control for his take off speed
Jesus Christ! You’re one of the best drivers in the world?????? You have everything ever possibly needed. Open the purse, remove balls and send it!
keep going men you should belive you have so many work you should try i belive you can do it KEEP GOING its perfect its only a little bit, :) sorry my english
Someone asked Rhy's father, Rod Millen, what he thinks about the jump. Needless to say the old man isn't too happy with these kinds of stunts his son is doing.
Dude, the barrell-rolling was visible from his first test jump on, why did nobody thinkg about that becoming a problem when landing on dirt instead of boxes ? oO
