There is one beauty that is a bit aloof and seeks out human attention. I enjoy petting and marveling over this gentle one. This is an I opening video!
One thing about the Gaur, they have terrible eyesight, and rely mostly on ears and nose for information. I worked in Parambikulam National Park in Kerala, S India in the mid-eighties, and on two occasions had close encounters with Gaur for just that reason. On the first occasion, towards dusk, I heard a herd of Gaur coming towards me in a patch of quite open woodland by a lake shore. I could soon see about 30 of them strolling in my direction, but they had no idea I was there. I climbed a handy tree and soon had wonderful views of the herd grazing directly below me. After about twenty minutes (by which time it was getting quite dark), they had moved on far enough for me to climb down and carry on. The second contact was with a single male. I thought he was going to pass me about 20 metres away, but he veered round straight towards me at a very gentle walking pace. Not wanting to attract his attention, I stood behind a tree and waited. Once he was within one metre of me, I thought I ought to do do something, so I waved my hat in his face and said “shoo!”. The moment while he decided what he should do seemed to last an age, but was only two seconds at most. He exhaled through his nostrils, turned round and walked back the way he had come. He clearly feared nothing and no-one! At the time, nor did I, but having seen this video, I won’t be so cavalier in future!

I often imagine what it would have been like with rhino, bears,, elephants, huge herds of wild water buffalo, gaur, banteng cattle, and deer., being hunted and stalked by tigers, leopards and wild dogs. And in the swamps, crocodiles, giant turtles, pelicans, storks and herons, and huge flocks of wild ducks, with vultures and eagles soaring in the sky and parrots and giant hornbills in the huge tall trees. @@abhinashkumar3161 yes, that to me indicates that a tiger is a more formidable opponent than a lion who hunts as a team whereas a tiger is a solitary warrior. Both are majestic creatures in their own ways but I feel tigers are an absolute force all by themselves, but then so is a male lion if it wants to fight on its own it absolutely can.
Very good film, and my thanks. Gaur and their American kin, our bison, are fantastic animals. Mountain Vietnamese used gaur for logging because buffalo don't do all that well in rugged country and banteng are too small.

I never knew such an animal existed. I thought the Cape Buffallo is the king in this class until now that i learned of this impressive living amourd tanker.
The sad part is just like the American bison, the gaur has been hunted to the brink of extinction in the wild but there's a significant population in mountain ranches, game reserves, and farms. They are considered semi-domesticated and can produce fertile hybrids with cows. They are raised for meat here in Bangladesh their meat is said to be leaner but a bit gamier than beef.
It's bullshit, people say this about ANY species they want to excuse killing for no reason. ALL dead animal flesh is full of fat and other toxins (especially added to it through 'production & refining) and completely unnatural, humans should not STILL be doing this shit. It's completely typical that we as a species be bastardising what's left of their bloodline and have more incarcerated for all the wrong reasons that out in the wild., Well it IS beef and it ISN'T-there's no such thing-just corpses of the murdered. People as a species are a pathetic and a real pity that, however deadly the "Red Bull" may be to other things, it STILL, like all else, can do NOTHING about the vile, cheating unnatural sickos called the homo sapien, when it reality, it like all would wipe the floor with us if we didn't cheat with technology, firearms, poisons, cars and mass idiocy and vileness.

Now we need to start increasing the gorilla population
I imagine a lot more people than the imperialists contributed to the guars decline .
Gaurs
@@brianmeen2158gorilla live in rain forest but Indian climate is totally different so not possible for Indian wildlife 😟
@@tommurphree5630 80,000 tigers, 150,000 leopards,200,000 wolves killed by the British imperialists from 1875-1925 from official records and Standard indian textbooks.
I happened to see gaurs in Tadoba tiger reserve, and a single male was removed from the herd. It was so aggressive that it warned us from the bushes to move away and we reversed our jeeps. The gaur was so mighty it might have easily turned our jeep upside down and there were tigers and bears around too. It had huge muscles
6:00 Goddamn such strength in one jerk of the horns... that tuktuk was nearly flipped.
The Gaur has been one of my favorite animals since I was a kid, thank you! Saola next? xD
7'2*!? Wow! That's Scary Huge!!
Thanks for this, heard the name before but didn't think they were that Huge!!✌️🇬🇾

Pure gold, huh? Guess I should start charging for my content then! 😂
There used many Gaurs in our Village's nearby jungle back in the days. But almost all were hunted down.
Didn't think there would anything else other than the sun bear to go toe to toe with a tiger. This freak of nature sure can!
So you are so delusional huh? You dont think Elephant or Rhino could :)))
@@vincecarter2674 My bad, Bear Grylls!!!!
Sun bears are and don’t do anything to tigers. I think you are thinking of sloth bears which are still small but are really fierce
Excellent documentary! really well-done, and I thank you for creating this, since not many people know about them and not really documented. It is Thailand's pride, especially on Krathing Dang.
in Thailand there are 1000 gaur. in just few years they shrunk to 150 individual. what kind of pride gaur is in your country ? in few year there will be no Gaur in Thailand
From 2:30 onward, those are not herd of Gaurs but Water Buffaloes. This person is misinforming people with wrong information.
Here comes another jealous Indian, yes gaurs are pride of thailand, you dont need to have headache about this.
Look at that muscle mass. Arnold Shwartznegger would be proud and envious at the same time
WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO KILL THESE MAGNIFICENT BEASTS.
maybe for a medium rare steak -.-
They taste good you should try
People feel justified to do whatever they want to, in spite of the repercussions to the species and the environment.
Money.
Good eating
In my hometown in India, we are fortunate to have a thriving population of Gaurs. These magnificent creatures are generally shy and prefer to keep to themselves, but they can absolutely destroy everything in their way if provoked. Our jungle also gained fame as the home of the legendary tiger brothers, 'Jai and Veeru,' renowned for their prowess in hunting these giants. It's truly fascinating to witness and celebrate the presence of such remarkable wildlife in our region.
Finally! A bison that kicks the crap out of a lion and a tiger! I approve!
Only tigers' lions would be eating for a week
@@loucifer4205 Lol, Lions can't even beat a much smaller cafe buffalo in a one on one fight. While, Gaurs are in the tiger's diet.
@James Mar Maceda Did you listen to what he said more tigers die from gaur than gaur die from tigers and there are videos of a male lion killing two full grown cape Buffalo and a full grown cape Buffalo weighs 2000lbs a gaur 2000lbs not that big of a difference
@@loucifer4205 where in hell you get those data about gaur and cafe buffalo lol fyi, average weight of cafe buffalo are nowhere near the weight of gaurs
Yes, gaurs killed more tiger than vice versa but that's only for discovered evidences. It's also a fact that Indian gaurs is part of tiger's diet, meaning, a determined tiger will attack a herd of Indian gaurs all by himself/herself and can still manage to score a kill.
While lions, need a whole pride just to take down a much smaller cafe buffalo lol
Cafe buffalo kick lion's ass all the time, y'know?
You know it's going to be epic when Boss music starts playing
i live in the northeastern part of India state, we called the animal Mithun and most of them are domesticated but not in stable , we let them free, forage for their own food like wild animal but makes regular contact with them by feeding salt. this make them habitual of our presence, which helps us easily capturing them for later use.
brother, Mithun and gaur are different, they are different species.
@@ObingNNgpk oh yes,,. Mithun is GAYAL and this is GAUR..both looks similar, well they both belong to one genus.😁

The Gaur (Bibos gaurus) is a large cattle species native to both the Indian subcontinent and parts of mainland Southeast Asia, it is known for being the largest extant cattle species, the largest extant bovine, and largest extant bovid in the world, it is one of the three extant species within the genus Bibos, the others are the Banteng (Bibos javanicus) and the Kouprey (Bibos sauveli), the gaur has four recognized subspecies: the Pahang Gaur (Bibos gaurus hubbacki), the Myanmar Gaur (Bibos gaurus readei), the Indian Gaur (Bibos gaurus gaurus), and the Gayal/Mithun (Bibos gaurus frontalis), like the gaur, the banteng also has four recognized subspecies: the Burmese Banteng (Bibos javanicus birmanicus), the Bornean Banteng (Bibos javanicus lowi), the Javan Banteng (Bibos javanicus javanicus), and the Bali Cattle (Bibos javanicus domesticus).

In 90s they are abundant in kotagiri forests, tamilnadu, south india. I have watched them do a standing jump clearing a six foot fence!
People think cafe buffalo ,bisons are biggest
But they never saw GAUR I bet
The muscles on it’s top are freaking impressive. Rippling muscles.
Im from Sri Lanka and feel bad that gaur is extinct from our country its such a beautiful and pride to have animal in the country
So import some and get new herd going
These are very gentle creatures which won't hurt u unless it is threatened.
No they’ll attack you if you do nothing either 😅 lol. They’re animals remember forget that they are peaceful gentle creatures, you will end up dead real fast with that kind of thinking.
No way. They are unpredictable and charge without any provocation. A gaur killed two men in Kerala last week. One guy was a rubber tapper and the other was reading news paper in his veranda when a rogue Gaur charged and gored him.
Come to Assam BTC Here almost Every month Person Killed By These Gaur Yesterday a Old man and 4 people In Nikashi Mushalpur and a Week ago In kokrajhar
What a beautiful animal. I can’t believe they actually can take on tigers and win!
It is incredible but not too surprising when you consider buffalo often take on lions and win, and this is even bigger than buffalo, such a magnificent beast
@@DunkinBiscuits and tigers live alone
@@abhinashkumar3161 yes, that to me indicates that a tiger is a more formidable opponent than a lion who hunts as a team whereas a tiger is a solitary warrior. I’m not sure who win between a lion and a tiger but I’d like to think the tiger would. Both are majestic creatures in their own ways but I feel tigers are an absolute force all by themselves, but then so is a male lion if it wants to fight on its own it absolutely can.
I’ve seen a video of a tiger taking down a gaur by itself
@@antoniodriskell2346 in this video he says they kill more tigers than tigers kill them so yeah obviously tigers do sometimes win
Very good film, and my thanks. Gaur and their American kin, our bison, are fantastic animals. Mountain Vietnamese used gaur for logging because buffalo don't do all that well in rugged country and banteng are too small.
Thanks for the info!
There's a domesticated version of gaur in india called Mithun, but it's slightly smaller in size.
@@Usb-ls5rq I wish loggers in Brazil would import them. Draft animals leave a small footprint on nature. When I was a kid, we used draft horses to farm but also had a caterpillar tractor to drag logs down the farm lane. niio
People often fear large carnivores, but the sheer size of the biggest herbivores, like this absolute unit, can be the real source of nightmares.
This is just like the Indonesian bull (bos javanicus) but smaller than this. We call it BANTENG.
The male is black with white legs and the female is brown with white legs. And the male is aggressive.
GAUR and BANTENG are similiar in general.
Wow. Not many animals can intimidate a Rhino.
One on this video definitely gave way to a Guar, tho.
Great commentary and facts. Look forward to another video soon!

This magnificent creature is truly the definition of power and size. Wow what a tank. 👍👍👍
It really is!
8:19 for over 1 ton creature I don't expect that amount agility and awareness.
I never knew such an animal existed. I thought the Cape Buffallo is the king in this class until now that i learned of this impressive living amourd tanker.
I still don't know how those skinny legs hold up their bodies, the bones must be crazy dense. Absolute tanks.
Not only that...they run very fast and jump very high...easily clearing 7 ft fences and I've seen them do this
It goes for all bovines.
Wow Red Bull is based on indian gaur. thats new knowledge.
Except the American Bison was decimated for fun.....
And what ISN'T effing hunted to extinction by us. It's about the only mark we'll leave on the world, which says it all!
This is why i like India , they protect every animal and even go that far to be vegetarian.
@@kyachdistent1301 many species have been brought back from the brink of extinction by controlled breeding on hunting ranches in Texas. Not all hunting is bad, in fact, the majority of hunting is beneficial to wildlife if don’t responsibly.
