@Ghazanfar Ali Actually I think he had assumed it was Meng and not katara, which is why he was so surprised when Aang completely brushed Meng off when he had previously told him to be “Aloof”. I also think this because of the way he smiled when he noticed her frantically trying to get Aang’s attention.
The realization for Katara was that Aunt Wu said she would marry a powerful bender. So when Sokka said aamg was a powerful bender it made her realize Aunt wu might be talking about Aang.
3:51, even if Aunt Wu really were as psychic as the man thinks it’s entirely possible that the reason his journey would be safe was because he was destined to be rescued by Sokka, Katara and Aang. So he’s wrong to assume that he’s have been fine without them
The funny thing is all her predictions came true. If you notice that girl at the start says she will meet her true love, and he will give her a panda lily. In the middle of the episode you see her in the background hugging a guy who gave her a panda lily, that's where Aang got the idea from to get a panda lily. Sokka was causing self harm the whole episode. She specifically said the volcano would not destroy the city, she DIDN'T say it wasn't going to erupt.
She's actually 99% bollocks. Most of the predictions were self-fulfilling, and the rest were just vague and dumb. It's literally astrology, 100% bollocks. And some "predictions" were straight wrong (Katara's grandchildren, for example).
@@masansr She DID end up marrying a powerful bender. Also, she made predictions about GREAT grand children, not grand children. So that means when Jinora, Ikki, Rohan, and Meelo have collectively their 3rd child it will be her 3rd great grand child and she will pass away. She is 84-89ish years old, so it seems likely she will pass away when that time comes. Jinora is a teen, so in 15 years it's entirely likely she will have kids before Katara reaches over 100. Same goes with Ikki and Meelo. They will be in their 20's which is a normal age for people to have kids.
They all come true, but all require action to happen. Even the opening scene, the guy is actively dodging the platypus-bear and not just standing there. I can buy a bit of fortunetelling in a show where I just watched a 12 year old blowing out volcano like a birthday candle, and have watched him go on spirit quests, and counseled adults.......and they listened. The big take-away though is that all of them create their own fortune, and it starts by finding a way to bend the clouds into a shape that will get the village to act in self-defense. It requires all three too: Sokka's planning, and Aang and Katara working in sync to bend the clouds. Also, loved how we get lots of powerful bending scenes with no fights, for a break in things.
@@rms7268 The writing was intended to be open ended. You can create your own destiny, but she is still never wrong. In the wiki avatar site, it's shown that Wu actually spent a long time studying the arts of fortune telling, she isn't just winging it. In the Avatar world, something like fortune telling isnt just superstition. In fact Aang himself reads the future in a vision, when he sees Toph in the swamp.
@@masansr Her predictions on the harvest for the last 20 years kinda leans her to being real. Also it was great-grandchildren not grandchildren so time has yet to tell on that one.
The writing makes Aunt Wu's predictions quite deep at times. Like her throwaway line to Aang "Trust your heart and you will be with the one you love". Aang decided to drop the aloof act Sokka tried to teach him, and do a nice gesture for Katara. A flower, for example. Cause boy, that works. The search for the flower revealed the state of the volcano. Aang's power display to deal with the volcano, brought Katara to (at least in that moment) see Aang as something other than that "sweet little guy", and at least contemplate the idea.
When your crush compares you to an animal, you're not in the "Friend" zone, you're in the "Pet" zone. 🤣 P.S. I've already seen the entirety of the show, and it never ceases to amaze me at how agile and athletic these old people are.

The Worst Part For Sokka? All Of Aunt Wu's Predictions Technically Came True. She Never Said The Volcano Wouldn't Erupt, Just That It Wouldn't Destroy The Village, For One Example. Anyway, Next Up: 'Bato Of The Water Tribe'
4:18, Sokka lives in a world where people can telekinetically manipulate water, earth and air and conjure fire, where it’s possible to survive a century inside an iceberg and where reincarnation is proven to exist. He’s been inside the Spirit world and he’s buddies with a prophesied Chosen One. So a lot of it is arbitrary skepticism.
Aang is a Master Airbender, they only get tattoos when they master both the physical and spiritual side of airbending and as far as I know he was the youngest
12:45, a fair point. Though the she seemed genuinely shocked by the vision that Aang would participate in an awesome battle of good and evil which will determine the very fate of the world and she was right about that.
17:22, that’s true but for all you know the reason she was right was because the Trio was destined to save the village from the volcano which could only happen if the three of them assumed Aunt Wu was wrong so even if Aunt Wu were right and all her prophecies genuine it would still teach the exact lesson Sokka wanted the villagers to learn.
12:37, though when Aang went to the Spirit World Avatar Roku showed him a vision of Fire Lord Ozai using Sozin’s Comet, so clairvoyance really exists in some form in this world.
8:31, all Sokka needs to do to prove Aunt Wu wrong is predict exactly what she did so that the Universe will immediately prove her wrong just to prove Sokka wrong
4:45, the best way for Sokka to prove Aunt Wu wrong would be if Sokka were to predict exactly what she did so that circumstances would immediately conspire to invalidate what she said just to prove Sokka wrong
17:12 I’m sure someone has said this already but the fortune teller said she’ll end up with a powerful bender and Katara has always over looked or not noticed Aang in the way he has noticed her so Sokka saying that Aang is a powerful bender made her think back to what the fortune teller said
Makapu Village has been untouched by the ongoing war because of its hidden location in the mountains. The village is located near the western coast of the Earth Kingdom. Most settlers stayed in this village because of its fertile soil from the volcano.
This one is "a filler episode..." I'm specifically putting it in quotes because there are only 2 things that really come up... The "love" between katara and aang.. and the ability to bend clouds... But you could see that as logical.. because ice is water in a different state just as clouds are
There are four main methods of fortune telling that are practiced in China. These four methods are face reading, palm reading, Kau Cim and Zi Wei Dou Shu.
In a season 2 episode, Sokka gets stuck in a crack/fissure in the ground and makes "friends" with the Moose Lion cub. He names it "Foo Foo Cuddly Poops" I hope that's not too much of a spoiler. There is a lot more to the episode than that.
didn't see anyone commenting about this and its driving me insane, so in the episode you talked about how Katara wants a tall man and said that Aang is short, just so you know after the show ended Aang had an insase growth, my man went from being the shortest in the group to the tallest with a gap in a span of like a year after the show ended lol you can see it in the comics, just had to say it even tho its been two years lol

Lol does anyone see Meng and think Helga from Hey Arnold? Just a tiny bit haha this is such a fun episode because we always think about the avatar state being powerful, but Aang is a full fledged Airbender master/prodigy. It's nice to see how powerful he is without relying on it and just using skill and strategy to win his battles.
9:42, pay attention to the wording. If Firebenders show up and destroy the village, then she was right. If the volcano erupts but doesn’t destroy the village then she’s still right. There’s very little leeway for her to be wrong and if she did get it wrong they’d all be dead and as such have no way to realize that she was wrong. We know she’s not a charlatan (at least not a complete one) because of the bone scene but if she were she could easily get away with that kind of thing.
Think of the predictions as an actual part of making the future they are telling happen. They're as much of an action as any regarding butterfly effects and such
