But you know, you really got it cleaned up well, and I am sure it was a good adventure for you! Plus, you have stories to tell, just about cleaning the gun and how dirty it was. I am very happy for you. I got one too (hand select), and I was a little more fortunate as mine was in much better condition. But the mag has a lot of sandy grit in it, although the spring seems to function well. This is my first surplus rifle purchase and I am really excited to have this rifle! Yeah I was pretty disappointed upon my first look at the rifle but after putting in some serious time getting it all cleaned up I couldn't be happier with it now. It looks fine and shoots great. They are awesome rifles. Enjoy yours!! I'm glad I found some ammo when I did.
An exceptionally detailed, exhaustive, analysis of a truly unique firearm. I had hardly known anything about the Czech arms industry during the Soviet era. I wonder if it saw action in the Congolese revolution of the early sixties. Reminiscent of Warren Zevon's "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner." As always, a thorough and fascinating exposé.
I wouldn't be surprised if this type of rifle was used to some extent in just about every regional conflict in Africa in the past 50-60 years. Thanks for watching Fred. Glad you found it informative!
I got one of these on Feb 2020 not sure how many they had in stock then, but mine is in alot better shape at least cleaning wise than a hand select model. I personally think "hand select" means they put their hands on the first one they see.
I think your right about the hand select. I'll never do it again. It's not the best looking rifle but it has turned out to be an awesome shooter so I'm pretty happy with it. I do think it was a little overpriced for the condition though. Thanks for watching!!!

Haha. It was a very unexpected surprise. Finding something like that that makes the firearm unique and adds to the history is so cool to me. Thanks so much for checking it out!
@@danm7298 I think the price is high for what the condition is mostly likely like. I want to find one on the secondary market so I know exactly what I'm getting. Now if they run a sale or something that could change my mind.
I did hand select from Classic a couple years ago... I had to convince myself that all the dings and lack of bluing gave my M57 a “custom” look. I love it now but it’s definitely a bummer when you pay extra and get a basic used firearm. That’s an awesome rifle either way.
I agree, it is a awesome rifle. I like my milsurps to have a used look. It adds to the history of the weapon for me. I just think Classic tossed this one in the box without looking though. That or they don't safety check their guns when they "hand select" them. Thanks for watching!!! I do love the rifle now that I've shot it.
My experience with Classic Firearms is that "hand select" is a waste of my money. More like paying them extra to do nothing. Except maybe they get some chuckles out of it: "hey, here's another one of those idiots, ha ha".
Great unboxing buddy. Little rough, but sometimes it is what it is. Maybe it was the best of the ten. I really liked that you did a second part on this video, and explained everything a little better. Excellent job Brother 👍
It made for a long video but I needed to explain things a little more. I'm actually pretty happy with the rifle now. It shoots great and It looks cool. Thanks for watching brother.
Very cool video! Not much of a gun-aficionado, but love seeing antiques and rare finds from the past (especially from another Country). It was so interesting seeing every part of this rifle, I personally liked the sling or the older material still there. A great add to your collection.
I just noticed that mine does not have the handguard release buttons--both are missing! So it might be a bit of a challenge to get the handguard off without an extra set of hands, at least! So I have to say that I envy you in that sense! Plus the fact that you have gotten your hands on some of the ammo! I guess that's part of the adventure of purchasing and owning one of these magnificent rifles.
I got really luck with the ammo. I ordered it the same day I ordered the rifle and haven't seen any more for sale since. That's unfortunate yours is missing those release tabs. I haven't seen those as a commonly available replacement part. Enjoy your rifle! I'm sure you'll love it when you get the chance to shoot it. Thanks for watching!
Hey, I just found out that I need the hand guard retainer, which is a piece that fits inside, underneath the gas system, and it has a couple tabs with openings on it that the hand guard clip tabs fit into. The buttons on the retainer rest on the outside of the rifle, and when you press on them, it releases them off of the hand guard clip tabs. It took me a while to figure that out, but I have since ordered that exact part (the retainer)! I found a bunch of parts on Gun Parts Numrich. I am also going to order that threaded muzzle cover that mine is missing! I also need an outer butt plate, but they are currently out of stock, but it's so nice to know that there is a place I can go to for parts! I am very excited about my rifle and getting the parts needed (a little at a time) to get it in better shape! And I ain't givin up on the ammo either! Love your videos! "Bang Bang!!!"💥💥👍

Classic in there videos seem to really like the ones that have paint and carvings on the stocks. Not for everyone but I think it makes it look so cool. Makes it really stand out as a truly carried rifle. I think it was worth the $25 extra. Glad you got it back though.
The rifle turned out just fine. It was more of the principle of the whole thing. I don't see any way this rife passed hand selection because I could barely even get the bolt open. Classic made it right by me though so it's all good and I love the rifle and it's awesome paint. Thanks for watching!!

love my vz 52 which i got from classic a year ago. mine came in much better condition though. but that's the way it is with CF. good point about the safety check issue
Had an employee at Classic admit he didn't even take my rifle out of the thick plastic to inspect it when he did my "hand select" on an SKS that showed up rusted to hell with actual sand inside it. When I broke it down there was wet sand between all the metal and wood. The bolt was totally rusted on a "hand select" rifle listed as "VG" condition and they still made me pay to ship it back. I have 3 of the milsurp Chinese SKS rifles so I know they are generally pretty rough, but this was waaaay worse. The listing even said 'this is the best batch we have ever seen of these rifles' I've had more good than bad experiences with Classic, but that really made me mad and tells me how much their hand select fee is worth. I miss Southernohiogun, they were legit with their condition listings and their hand select really did mean something.
Never. Ever. EVER pay hand select at Classic. I got a "hand select" sks from them one time and it was rusted to hell. I called them and talked to the guy that picked my rifle and he flat out told me he didn't even open the plastic to look at it before shipping it. You might as well take that 25 bucks and light it on fire.
Had the same experience for a supposed B grade 91/30....there was more rust than metal and when I contacted Classic, they said they didn't care. Will never purchase anything from them again.
Pretty much how all classic firearms hand selects look. I stopped buying from them when I got my surplus s&w 5906 that had water in it in the box and rusted and pitted under the grip and my star model b that looked like it had been sand blasted and dipped in the ocean the sent to me.
I bought a type 56 Sks from classic and the stock was a cut down Albanian sks and it doesn't fit correctly into the grooves for the stock at the front.
Had these in 7.62x39 back in the late 90’s come into the gun shop I worked at in Germany, at that time they were $300.00 in factory new Still in paper wrap.
@@boarzwid1002 Germans have all kinds of firearms, I shot competitions, with a HK-SL7, owned a FN-49, SKS, Ruger Mini-30. A fellow club member owned a Draganov . I also had a number of bolt actions and handguns. At the time there was the Krieg Waffen Gesetz, that would not allow ownership of things like a AR15, that has now changed and can even buy those if the club and organization you belong to shoots them competitively.
Hand Select obviously means you get a rifle that is selected because it comes with bonus 'original sand & dirt' from a 3rd world warehouse. My first thought was..."Hand Select...really...he could hardly pull back the bolt to look into the action it was so gummed up". Glad after a clean up she has turned from an ugly duckling into a nice swan.
Correction Czechoslovakia was never a part of the USSR. It was a member of the warsaw pact. The difference between the two is that the warsaw pact was a military alliance in the same way NATO is. Each member of the pact was an independent nation at least they were in name if not in practice. The USSR was a nation along the lines of how the USA is made up of individual states. Still it's a cool rifle just a shame you got screwed on the hand select.
This is something I've looked into quite a bit and although they weren't officially a USSR member nation they were a USSR satellite state with a soviet government. They were under heavy soviet influence. Thanks so much for watching!
@@ReadinessReviews we never had soviet government, but were under their boot cudos mainly to FR & GB pussies not adhering to defense treaties and thrown overboard by West (Daladier & Chamberlain; ultimately proppelling german war effort; CZ at time was 7th welthiest ranking country worldwide) which was felt as betrayal and capitalized after by soviet imported communists who were able because of people's sentiment able to win significantly in postwar elections and staged a coup after that.
I think a lot of the red you see on rti's rifles are religious in nature. You see crude crosses just behind the trigger position, and also at the forguard position. As a talisman perhaps. Not always a cross either.
Yes hand select is best of 10.. but of you order late in the shipment you are going to get the best of 10 of the garbage.. in some cases late in the shipment woth classic can be only a couple hours.
That's how it goes. I think they should stop offering the hand select option if the available stock can't support it. I also don't think my rifle was hand selected at all. I mean I had to struggle just to get the action open. Classic made it right though. They refunded my $25.
@@ReadinessReviews yeah when you they get down to low numbers they should definitely stop the hand select option forsure.. but yeah good on them for making it right. Ive heard about them doing that a few times.

Start with soap and hot water then dry and bore brush with solvent, run patches, repeat brush and solvent, more patches. Take it out and shoot it. Then brush with solvent again more patches and finish up with a light layer of oil. Hoppe's number 9 has always done the job for me.

@@bloodCount8895 Cool. I've seen those floating around on several sites over the past little while. I wish they were C&R. If they were I would have got one of each.
At times i wonder if it was sand- I think it was grease that over hundreds of years on the savanna became necrotic and fossilized. Now, if this rifle was from the future (or at least far far away) its no doubt a result of the carbon freezing process.
@@ReadinessReviews Yeah, but that is useless as i would never buy from them again. You basically just got lucky that this one cleaned up ok after Classic screwed you. Thanks for the video, and warning against Classic!

For sure. It's always best to see it in person but sometimes i don't mind rolling the dice for the right price. I won't be doing hand select again though.
I have 3 of these. I bought mine way back maybe 30 years ago. The surplus ammo that was available then was crap. Hang fires, no fires. Why I still have maybe 1000 rounds of it. I kept these things but sold my SVT40, Rasheed, Hakim, Egyptian FN49, Maaddi AK. What a dumbass, lol
Jose A. Romo my father passed away in 2006 and I sold all of those to pay for his funeral. I sold them to my nephew. He won’t sell them back to me, lol I had quit buying guns for quite a few years before that so wasn’t that aware of what they were going for.
A great hand selected rifle requires them to replace a purchased hand select rifle with another great looking rifle otherwise the 10 rifles to choose from will be crap and then hand select becomes a rip off.

Had these in 7.62x39 back in the late 90’s come into the gun shop I worked at in Germany, at that time they were $300.00 in factory new Still in paper wrap.
They are probably going for 10x that much now lol
I thought germans didn’t allow to have these types of weapons?
@@boarzwid1002 Germans have all kinds of firearms, I shot competitions, with a HK-SL7, owned a FN-49, SKS, Ruger Mini-30. A fellow club member owned a Draganov . I also had a number of bolt actions and handguns. At the time there was the Krieg Waffen Gesetz, that would not allow ownership of things like a AR15, that has now changed and can even buy those if the club and organization you belong to shoots them competitively.
It was replaced by the VZ52/57 and then the VZ58
Hand Select obviously means you get a rifle that is selected because it comes with bonus 'original sand & dirt' from a 3rd world warehouse.
My first thought was..."Hand Select...really...he could hardly pull back the bolt to look into the action it was so gummed up".
Glad after a clean up she has turned from an ugly duckling into a nice swan.
I don't think they hand selected anything with this one. They did refund the fee though so I guess it's all good now.
Are you certain you didn’t order “sand select?”
Honestly I think the sand plug may have helped protect the bore.
I've had a few people suggest that. It's possible. Thanks for watching!
I bought one of these rifles about 20 years ago for around $150. I sold itwhen the ammo started to dry up. One of my biggest regrets...😔
We all have similar regrets
Got mine in this afternoon....looks good..needs good cleaning..oil....missing hood for front sight...otherwise in pretty dam good shape..not sure how gonna work out ammo problem...but if necessary will rechamber for 39mm round
@vettelover2009 Yeah I see where you're coming from. It's not ideal but it was better than nothing. I learned my lesson and will know better next time.
7.62*39 or 7.62*45???
That was hand select you have to see what the other ones look like
I just bought a vz52 and the bore was super dirty what do you recommend to clean the bore real good. Thanks
Start with soap and hot water then dry and bore brush with solvent, run patches, repeat brush and solvent, more patches. Take it out and shoot it. Then brush with solvent again more patches and finish up with a light layer of oil. Hoppe's number 9 has always done the job for me.
Ok I’ll give it a try thank you and keep the good videos coming.
Great gun. I can’t believe how dirty it was.
It was a chore getting this thing range ready but it's so fun to shoot. Thanks for watching the video Ms. Marilyn!!!
So how much did you pay for it?
With tax shipping and the hand select it came in at like 575 But they gave me the 25 back for hand select.
I love mine just wish ammo was easy/cheaper to find
Agreed. Who knows maybe someone will make some new production ammo at some point.
@@ReadinessReviews i just ordered one, i found an adapter to shoot 7.62x39 from Numrich. i Also ordered that too, it was 50 something after tax and shipping.
Save the brass and reload your own. You would possibly have to cast your own projectiles but I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to load them yourself.
let me tell you, the cheapest vz.52 rifle in czech republic ist around 1000 dolars, and you see that wery rearly
That's unfortunate. I think most of them were sold or given to other countries as surplus back in the day.
@@ReadinessReviews true and we in Czech Rep. Cannot buy Czech rifle becose all was exported
Hand Selected means to some of these vendors they give you the finger after taking the extra money for "hand select".
Hahahaha. Thanks for checking the video out.
@@ReadinessReviews Thanks for making me go back and read my comment and see the horrible grammar I used, has been fixed. Kentucky public schools at work.
That cloth u pulled out i pulled out the same thing from my lee enfield number 4 mk1 that i bought from royal tiger imports .them africans must have used potato sacks as a cleaning patch .
Let's be honest that cloth wasn't cleaning anything lol. I got a RTI No.4 too. What kind of shape was yours in?
I bought 2 grade c they were terrible head space bad bore terrible .i did manage to find two size 3 bolt heads that dont close on field .im thinking abt trying to nickel plate the locking lugs .
You really lucked out with that bore being pluged with sand and dirt .i have one coming with cracked stock at royal tiger imports im hoping its pluged with dirt and sand like urs was .cause my theory is the africans would be to lazy to clean it out and just left it so it wasnt shot as much lol
@@bmoesucka8619 You are probably right about that.
@@bmoesucka8619 The bore on mine has some pitting but noting too bad. I think I'll be putting out a video on it next week.
Classic Firearms gets their firearms from IO, Century and even RGuns. I'm lucky enough to live near RGuns, but they tell me to never hand select especially from Cla$$ic Firearm$.
They would be correct! I'll never do it again. I still love my rifle though. Thanks so much for watching. Where is RGuns located?
@@ReadinessReviews carpentersville, IL
@@bloodCount8895 Thanks. I hadn't heard of them before.
@@ReadinessReviews No prob. RGuns imported the batch of Beretta 81, 81BB, 92S, Browning Hi-Power, M70, and Star Model B that Classic has sold off.
@@bloodCount8895 Cool. I've seen those floating around on several sites over the past little while. I wish they were C&R. If they were I would have got one of each.
When the ammo completely dries up I'm going to convert mine to 6.5 grendel.
That sounds really cool but where are you going to get a 6.5 barrel?
@@ReadinessReviews machine one from a blank. It's been done before.
@@ReadinessReviews would probably be expensive but better than never shooting it again.
You’re making me want one haha
I'm sure as heck glad I got one. It's one of the coolest rifles I own.
Classic had these listed as 52/57s, truly a scumbag move if I ever saw one.
Really? I didn't see that.
I couldn't live with that paint on the stock
At times i wonder if it was sand- I think it was grease that over hundreds of years on the savanna became necrotic and fossilized. Now, if this rifle was from the future (or at least far far away) its no doubt a result of the carbon freezing process.
Dude I would at least demand my hand select fee back, that is ridiculous
Oh I did and they gave it back in the form of a store credit.
@@ReadinessReviews Yeah, but that is useless as i would never buy from them again. You basically just got lucky that this one cleaned up ok after Classic screwed you. Thanks for the video, and warning against Classic!
@@englishrupe01 You live and you learn. Thanks for watching man!
Hand select? I wouldn't buy a cup of coffee off of them.
Glad they they gave me the 25 back
Thanks for the education - pretty cool! That stinks so they didn’t live up to your expectations. I guess you could make a minor claim of false advertising to a certain extent if needed. It’s a very cool weapon though!
They made it right as far as I'm concerned. I got my $25 back even though it was a store credit. I actually really like the rifle now. It's very fun to shoot and the look just adds to the history.
Hand select? Doesent really look like it. That's why I am always iffy on purchasing surplus firearms that I can't see in person. Id rather buy something that I can physically feel.
Ouch. Those are all dream guns of mine especially the SVT.
Holy shit man... Last time I checked, SVT 40s were going for almost $3,000. I would've sold two of the VZ 52s and kept all the others
Thanks for watching!!!
This was used by the Apes in PLANET OF THE APES
I remember that now! Haha
@@ReadinessReviews always yelling WITHDRAW! Or how about the Apes in the Second or Later movie speaking about the Human: HE SAID THR ONE WORD NO HUMAN (maybe also Chimp) CANNOT SAY TO SN APE! HE SAID NOOOOOOO!
Classic is everything wrong with the surplus community. Run by greedy old men who vastly over-value their inventory, they unfortunately have the money and the contacts to corner the import surplus market. Classic is one of the reasons the surplus market has skyrocketed and gotten crazy expensive in the last 10 years.
I hear ya.
That rifle is on the rag. 🩸
Haha yeah
I like the graffiti
Yeah it has really grown on me. I call it the war paint. Thanks for watching
Classic Firearms is a disreputable clown show of a company, do not purchase anything from them. The vast majority of rifles that I.O. brought in from Ethiopia are barely safe to shoot garbage rods.
I'm still glad they brought those "garbage rods" into the country.
منو عنده مثله للبيع
No selling on RUclips
52/57
I hope you didn't pay much for that.
Eh.. probably more than I should have. I''m happy with the purchase now though.
Classic Firearms sucks.
I would avoid their "hand select". Thanks for checking the video out!!
classic firearms sucks dude.
How much you paid for it?
