Loved the build and the tips, made me rethink certain options, particularly with the point that you don't want to be choosing feats/perks/blessings that are kinda needing you to play badly first in order to be useful. Looking forward to more videos.
subscriber number 500 for you brother. its great to see a confident youtuber that can actually back it up and isnt just making fotm videos. have you tried the combat knife much? how do you think it performs next to the tactical axes? its the thing i was always recommended for a fast zealot playstyle, but i havent found one, and my tac axe has not left me wanting. wondering if its overrated
What are the odds you do an updated guide now that there’s been tons of changes? Love your input. And updated version of this exact video would be amazing. Thanks for content
I've got a level 30 zealot and I'll be trying out your feat selection. I love the eviscerator and I wan to learn to love the chainaxe- the flow of them and the violence and the tearing sounds of them on their special attack is simply too phenomenal for me to switch from just yet- but I still enjoyed this video. Commenting, liked, subscribed. See you on Atoma!
Man! Tactical Axe! I hate it! But i did watch your video few times now, i think i managed to apply most of it to my Combat Axe :D Thank you for being awesome! TOP TEAR CONTENT right here! EDIT: Also its nice to see someone not going for a broken bleed meta as its (I believe) going to be patched sooner or later anyway lol
This was a really great video. I'm currently 26 zealot and have been using a very similar build with Mark4 TacAxe. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for a Mk2 with those affixes. Again, really great guide. I subbed after seeing your Damnation Zealot-POV run breakdown on another channel.
Now I understand why I hated the Tac axe. The normal attacks felt so bad. But the heavy attacks seem to make up for them. I'll have to try it again now...
@Emorist I've been trying out the range crits from Chastise. Certain guns can kill a T5 Crusher in the time frame. A mk1 autogun with high damage and stopping power does it quite consistently without much in the way off aura buffs, blessings, perks or martyr stacks. That gun is also very capable for overall ranged combat, picking off specials and shooters, suppressing, burst of boss dmg etc. Also, flashlight :) ATM the flamer might just be too good to pass up, but still this style is an interesting alternative. You are overall a good ranged fighter, you have the can opener for carapace, maybe your melee slot can then be something like a chainsword, catachan sword, or the combat knife. I really like how this works out with pubs at least. I can do everything quite well, and my rando veterans sure can't. Other autoguns can work too, although I believe the best crit on carapace-dps does come from the mk1. Maybe the shotgun can work with a good enough roll. Although the shotty does knock down the crusher, so repeated headshots are difficult. I've yet to find a good autopistol roll, I'm kinda hoping that can melt a Crusher too. Gun is very cool, lol. I'm sad the zealot doesn't get a recon las, that might be pretty ridiculous with all crits. The revolver does come with crazy crit burst performance, but I'm not sure it's worth the drawbacks.
I for one cannot play without "thy wrath be swift" talent on lvl 15. what it does is making you immune to being slowed by ranged fire. so instead of being stunned and slowed/ having ur sprint and ult interrupted. you instead move faster by taking fire.
Excellent video, sounds like we agree about a lot of things. Just a few questions based on my own play: How do you feel about the knife? Obviously the bleed stuff got nerfed but I generally still prefer it to the tac axe, I feel like it's a bit less good vs extreme hordes, but you have literally 100% uptime on 3 stacks of bloodletting and 75% toughness DR when in melee, and will kill almost any single enemy faster than the tac axe. On top of being faster with higher stam regen and so on, it's my weapon of choice (tac axe is #2 though). Curious how you've found it, why you don't run it etc. I do think it's worth highlighting how much more effective toughness this nets you compared to running the 3rd trait on the first set, assuming you're killing enemies at a somewhat regular pace literally quadrupling your toughness is insane! Even with bloodletting nerfed it still means you have near permanent 30% crit chance uptime so are rocking the damage reduction trait the whole time. Similarly my opinions on guns were the exact same as yours until I saw Core playing with the humble lasgun and decided to try it, and honestly i've been really impressed. You can kill basically everything that isn't a crusher or mauler surprisingly fast on damnation with it, it has a very fast drawtime, the time from switch to enemy dying is very close to the bolter (and it's much better at longer ranges) but obviously it doesn't have that "emergency panic button" empty the entire clip to rescue a bad situation factor. Still, I've been surprisingly impressed with it, specifically any one that uses 3 ammo to do higher damage (I have a La and XII that both do this). Cheers, and super happy you decided to make another video!
I did run the knife for my early levels in the preorder beta and I think its a solid choice, not to mention super fun to use, however I've actually been quite unlucky and have yet to find a knife worth upgrading yet. That being said, the reason I switched from knife to tactical in the first place was, in part, for the cc you can get with the tac axe+brutal momentum+heavy attack swing pattern. I do think its a strong choice though if used well and if you have a good headshot rate it can absolutely slay. honestly I've found that specials that are far away are not usually the ones that cause me issues, plus if I'm using my mobility properly I can close the gap with relative ease. Even if there are times where I cant afford to go chasing down specials most people in qp are playing backline roles right now so lazgun hasn't felt necessary for me. If I really wanted a quick swap speed weapon id probably run shotgun.
@@Emorist1 That's fair, I think there're definitely some times, mostly in pugs, that I'm really happy I have a lasgun. I feel like with a knife and lasgun there're basically no situations I can't brute force my way out of. The only time I get sad (and this happened today) is needing to nearly solo bosses, especially beasts of nurgle, with that setup. 😢 Although honestly Beasts feel tragic with anything that isn't the Flamer. I, on the flipside, haven't found a good tactical axe, so I'll try and look out for one with brutal momentum from here on out I suppose. Maybe I can engineer one when the gear system opens up fully. Oh and about the CC thing, knife push is almost no actual knockback but does still stagger hordes in a pretty wide arc, and you have nutty stam regen! What's the actual cleave damage like with brutal momentum? I was finding with the tac axe on 5 that it'd hit 2 poxwalkers and would take quite a while to kill them anyway, as opposed to just headshots / crits (and the sweep crit has good cleave) with the knife. Looking at some of your clips I think it must be quite good cause you've gotten some heals off Revenant that're quite a lot bigger than what I normally get with the knife! :O
@@Emorist1 Oh one more thing! If you're into brutal momentum cleavey gameplay have you tried the impact talent (Punishment, I think?) over bloodletting? I was really not that impressed with Bloodletting on anything other than like maulers / crushers when I didn't play the Knife just because it was so rare I got to hit things enough for it to trigger. If you play with something that applies bleeds though that obviously changes.
What do you mean the left click is useless? Its an awesome attack to insta stagger something and that means almost everything that hit. It also allows you to rightclick right after. No longer have to run to safety before using it
Thanks for the video! I learned so much from your last one that now I am able to complete heresy maps and trying to get my first damnation clear! I have been looking for other ways to get stuck in without using my ult and your example gave me another way to think about the game. Ig it’s time to give up the comfort of the combat axe and try to be a bit more nimble. Do you find you can still stager ogryns with the tactical axe or do you just dodge all of their dmg? Also how do you play against beast of nurgle? I find I’m pretty scared to go melee with them if they haven’t eaten anyone yet so I just look for literally anything else to kill. I’m really looking forward to more videos! Thanks again. ❤
The tac axe definitely has less stagger than the combat axe but I think it can stagger crushers every 2 swings or so. that said I am usually just dodging their attacks as they are pretty telegraphed. Beast of nurgle is really annoying to fight in melee right now with the corruption really hurting zealots hp sustain and his grab animation being nearly unreadable, im usually ok with just dumping some flamer ammo or boltgun rounds into it for safety. If his back is turned you can dps in melee with relative safety (he will still try to hit you with his tail but those attacks are readable). otherwise its still usefull to just be the guy who is controlling the adds during the fight so your ranged can dps better.
To my knowledge, there is no requirement to view the stats, though maybe your missing the button in the bottom right to toggle damage charts called 'view attack breakdowns'?
I have a question. Faced with a linear corridor with no side entrances, is there anything I can do if I can't get line of sight to charge in? I'm thinking there isn't except let my ranged folks deal with it, but if they keep getting suppressed, we're not going anywhere. Do we pull back to lure them in, perhaps?
I use a mark 4 Tac axe on my Psyker. Decimator and Brutal momentum. With 4 Brainburst charges i can oneshot Horde with left click on head. It is quite a good weapon. With the overhead heavy it feels so versatile on every hit. I did no math but it feels just better than the other two tac axe marks
That depends on your finesse stat and will likely just come with practice and muscle memory. depending on the weapon you can read the animation to tell as well but the mk2 tac axe is mostly offscreen for the heavy attacks I believe.
Love the build and walkthrough. I play something similar but with a few differences. I do take the Toughness Reduction up front as I use my F skill to get back Toughness regularly. How? Because I'm crit building, so everything is about hitting with a lot of crits. Along with passive cooldown reduction, I am often able to stay engaged for long haul battles, but have to think more about how I 'engage' because unlike the double charge I need to get close enough for a single spring, slide, charge maneuver. The excessive amounts of crits I build gets me back my skill fast enough I can use it just to cap my toughness again, very regularly. It fits my playstyle better, but there's a lot of builds viable and I like yours as well!
Not sure I agree with the idea of constantly charging in and taking the most aggressive position possible (within sensibility) when other options are available. Zealot is capable of excelling in high pressure situations but other classes can become moderately to dramatically less efficient under those circumstances, especially vet who generally wants to take pulls somewhat piecemeal due to how counterfire chaining works. Diving into a room immediately always means pulling unknown enemies from up ahead and is a good way to get shot to pieces if you have to retreat to make space to take out 4 bulwarks, 3 crushers, and a bunch of ragers coming around the corner in damnation+. Your strategy may be an artifact of your build providing nothing in situations where the team is firing from a corner to clear out top threats and wait out a special spawn wave before pushing in and taking risks but I still think your runs will still improve in everything but speed if you take advantage of the team's ability to do this. Brute-forcing the risks you take by playing the way you advocate through sheer skill is valid, but I expect the vast majority of the playerbase to get actively worse results trying to emulate this.
Can you also do tutorial how to push that explosive guy (poxploder)? I have like 80/20 ratio of pushing him and I have no idea what I do wrong when I push him and he falls back but his explosion still deals damage to me... even though I am sure I do it same way....
Push while he jumps and then backdodge. If someone shot him before jumping I don’t think he gets pushed back as far, and also some weapons don’t backdodge as far as others
really creative build. me like. wish i could finish levelling my zealot so i could do this. what are your thoughts on the state of the game in general?
Anyway love the video. Thank you, and keep it up! Clip choice could've been improved instead of just random b-roll, but other than that I have no criticism or critique.
That feat also lets you apply bleed on crits, so with your F ability you get a guaranteed crit which means that you have a consistent source of bleeds and a consistent source of 10% crit chance. Its only really useful against tanky targets but it makes crushers so much easier to kill as crits with the tac axe do very solid dmg against carapace armor and it means that the damage you do from your F ability will be a lot higher on average. also it will proc from any bleads your teammates will apply too, though that's not nearly as reliable as your own bleed generation it does apply more often than you might think.
Loved the video! The axe carried me through early game levels but I can't get enough of the double handed chainsword and hammer! Do you think this mindset of play would work well still with those weapons? I find myself more in your playstyle most of the time and totally undervalued the health collection of revenant. Overall awesome vid!!
I'd recommend you also check out the Combat Axe (specifically mk V). It has a decent light attack chain (3rd swing has some cleave), and you should work in the cleave push attack for hordes - but it's overhead heavy is one of the highest damage single target attacks in the game and is so god damn satisfying to use especially with Chastise the Wicked. Scales well into damnation but obviously less forgiving in terms of mobility than Tactical Axe or Knife so I'd strongly suggest a +stamina curio.
Testing in the psykanium I noticed I can't actually hit headshots on a crusher with combat mkV. Like maybe a couple of them work out of 10. But the animation makes it look like I should absolutely get headshots. Wonder why it's so wonky.
Try also combat knife with lacerate. Great mobility but requires way more aggresive gameplay due to you wanting to take 75% toughness reduction talent on Tier 1.
This guide has so much more depth than all the generic ones out there. And love the emphasis on how to play as a team. Awesome stuff. Subbed
Ok this is the best and most informative guide I've seen on youtube srsly... mad props man
