“Livin’ the Dream”…..except today it’s been a *****ng nightmare 🤬
Has anyone done this before on a little 2-stroke motorcycle? I don't think so !!
The bike has only spluttered twice since I’ve had it in 10 years. Once in Chippenham a few months ago and en route to Carrickfergus. All seemed okay after the backfire - "touch wood".
I was regularly getting accosted by people at the side of the road looking at the bike this morning and a man said
".....that Bike has some years under its belt..."
and I said
"So have I"!
He said "good on ya"!
So today was a bit like “the curates egg” if you are familiar with that little fable? It was “good in parts” 😅
So dealing with the positives first, one could not fail to be mesmerised by one stunning view after another on the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland. I have a new friend join me on his Batavus - a sturdy little moped best described as rudimentary. Barry Coleman is also a member of the NACC in Northern Ireland and the hour that we spent together, during which we were accosted by a chap fawning over the bikes, was one of those great moments in time! Thank you Barry for giving up a days work to join me - there seem to be quite a few people prepared to give up a days work to go out riding ha ha!
Taking my view from my RUclips mentor, Daniel Hayes, it’s all about “livin’ the dream” and "not quitting"! So I continue along the stunning coastline eventually stopping for a late lunch at Morton’s fish and chips in Ballycastle. However I was forced to shelter under a tree in a massive downpour of rain and that heavy rain continued on and off throughout the day accompanied by strong buffeting winds - actually not very pleasant.
So at the end of the day when I have already done over 120ish miles and the posterior was making itself known, I arrived excitedly at the Lough Foyle Ferry knowing that I was only 30 minutes drive from my B&B. However the ferry had refused to put to sea which absolutely infuriated me! I wanted a challenge and the challenge was to ride a tiny oil burning bike around the coastline of Ireland and committing my backside to the purgatory but then, the bloody ferry had been cancelled because of ta bit of a breeze. All I can say is the guys who work on the ferry must’ve been footballers and not rugby players - such babies 😡
This took me on a 35 mile detour back into Derry to my B&B who kindly waited for me. By the time I arrive, cold and wet, I'd clocked 153 miles, similar to the previous day which had me reaching for the solpadine to pacify my backside as soon as I got in!!
Anyway, onward and upward, the waterproofs kept me dry so I am off to Malin Head in the morning, God willing, the most northerly point of the island of Ireland. 🤪

That Batavus of Barry's was a new one on me; never had them here in Australia. Wonderful coastline around Antrim; a bit of sunshine always helps, though!
those homes on the coastal are beautiful, can you imagine the views during stormy weather!
Unbelievable
Just shows what can be done on a low capacity motorcycle with a lot of determination. Well done Rob 😀👍
Thanks Willy - make sure you watch the others int he series !
Lovely film Rob. What amazing coastal scenery. No wonder it is known as the Emerald Isle. I'm enjoying your trip round Ireland as much as I enjoyed the NC500. I love the wee bike and the sound of the engine is lovely. Your hardy taking it and yourself in the rain. Thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed Hugh - to be honest I think the Irish tour was better!
Class video and that's me with the Batavus ! So admire Rob for his sense of adventure . Been great travelling with him on part of his adventure .
😬
Hi Rob, I’m enjoying you round the coast Ireland trip. What a challenge you set yourself, great job.
Thanks for your acknowledgement! I did set myself a hard challenge, both me and the bike made it. Now all I have to do is pay the credit card!!
Great scenery and one day I hope to get there and see it for myself. Also don’t mind hearing the little YB motor working.
I am hearing thenYB’s engine in my sleep - yes that road is the best scenic road in these islands in my opinion!
Hi rob your doing well .that little yamy is bomb proof. Old dave

Love the Sound of the Two Sroke
On the Overrun
You must Have Had the YB tuned up you were going at TT speeds on some sections..😆 do your hands get Cold
With no Gloves ?
I had a Yamaha RSX 100 did Quiet a few journeys down to , Devon on the Back Roads. It feels more of an
Challenge than on a Big Touring
Bike .. you Know you have been on
a Journey. .
Yes I can get a ton out of that YB when it’s warmed up! When it’s raining I opted to take my gloves off and keep them dry. I have “over gloves” but they interfere with your dexterity. Hands were sometimes cold
It was a u Tube On the Wild Atlantic way by Nick sanders that inspired my trip to Ireland but you are more
Hardcore Riding the YB .. but Nick does tend to Bed down in his
Sleeping bag under some Rocks on the Side of the Road I dont. Fancy that
