However, we can also travel to England/Great Britian and live and work there without visas. We can also claim social welfare there.

@@lovey980He's trying to say that Ireland isn't part of the Schengen visa arrangement. Which is true. But that is only relevant to non-EU citizens. That is, if you are from, say, China, and you want to travel to Italy on holiday, you will receive a Schengen visa from the Italian consulate or embassy. But with that visa, you can travel from Italy to any other EU state that is in the Schengen zone - France, Germany, Spain etc. No need for any more visas. Ireland isn't in the Schengen zone, so a separate visa would be required for this Chinese example tourist to enter Ireland.
However, all EU citizens have the automatic right to move to and live and work in any other EU state - no visas of any type required. Schengen is not relevant to citizens.
Ireland also has a common travel area with the UK, for historical reasons. Meaning that Irish citizens can live and work in the EU and the UK with no visa barrier, Brexit madness making no difference.

Great Britain isn’t Scotland, Wales, and England, it’s the largest island in the British Isles, and all three of those countries have land outside of the main isle, eg; Anglesey in a Welsh island that isn’t apart of Great Britain.
Northern Ireland’s existence isn’t confusing, South Sudan, North Korea, and even the US States of North and South Carolina exist as well.
The travel stuff can be quite odd, but it can be easily explained with a quick history lesson on the British and Irish governments trying to stop terrorism and that was their solution.
The 4 nation country thing… the UK is the last of its kind, what can I say. Entities like the UK were far more common long ago, things like the Two Sicilies, Poland-Lithuania, and even the Russian Empire are all examples of this.

@@summoning.redemption The United Kingdom is a kingdom consisting of four countries those being Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the ruling country England. Ireland and Northern Ireland are 2 completely separate countries.
There is a long tradition of anti-British sentiment, specifically anti-English sentiment since the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland and often more specifically Anglophobia, within Irish nationalism. Much of this was grounded in the hostility felt by the largely Catholic poor for the Anglo-Irish gentry, which was mainly Anglican.
However, it is important to note that not all Irish people dislike the British. In fact, many Irish people have British ancestry and many Irish people have moved to Britain for work or study

@@splashafrica we're a densely populated nation, 281 people per km² versus 25 in SA. The division exists based on population. In the 1600s there were attempts to bring Ireland under greater protestant control, so settlers from Scotland especially were brought to Ireland. This created a bitter divide and struggle, with Catholics being treated worse than the protestants. In early 20th century Ireland wanted independence, but in the North East of Ulster (the province which is basically northern Ireland now) there was a majority of protestants who wanted to be British, so northern ireland was created, and then developed to give the protestants total control. This failed though and the divisions it created led to The Troubles, a thirty year ethno nationalist conflict where about 3500 were killed ending in the 1990s. There's now a fairly even split between the number of catholics and protestants, sightly more Catholics now though, and NI is a fairer country. A majority of people though still want to remain in the UK. It's a difficult subject. Unionists have done a lot of damage to the catholics (mostly people who want to be in Ireland) in the past, I myself am a unionist and a descendant of the Protestant settlers from Scotland, but the problem is we've been here so long now, longer than Europeans have been settling in America, that we can't just leave, this is our home too now. There are many more things at play but there's no easy solution. I anticipate though that there will be a United Ireland within my lifetime, even though for my beliefs I would prefer it not to happen

Ireland was invaded by the UK several times and was a colony of Britain for centuries. Northern Ireland was colonised directly with British people, which is why in 1921, after the Irish War of Independence, the UK carved Northern Ireland out specifically to keep a British Unionist majority population within those borders.

Some people use "Europe" when they are referring to the EU, this does not help with clarity at all, in fact it just makes understanding meaning that much harder. The EU is a supranational organisation comprising of many countries that are IN Europe. Europe is a continent whose borders are somewhat ill-defined*, and contains the countries of the EU and a number of others that are NOT in the EU (such as, for example, Switzerland).

If you look at it the right way, the UK and Ireland are just the geographically accurate Rayman™ N.Ireland and Ireland are the hand, Scotland the head, England and Wales are the torso and near Plymouth and Essex are the "feet"

You make it too confusing, here is how to make it simpler to an American
Think of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as states eg. Texas or Arizona
And the counties inside of them like districts in American states.

It’s crazy when you look at how small Britain is and then realize it was the even smaller England that started what became to be the largest empire in human history.

This bloke wouldn't know this but there are four countries in Britain on paper only. In reality, every part of Britain feeds London because Westminster has full control of finance. All because we are not federated.

For people who don’t understand how the Uk is part of Europe: There was this area called doggerland [What the fu- is that kind of name!?] and due to rising sea levels, doggerland sunk. [Let me know if that was what he meant on UK being part of europe or not]

Ok, so he’s explained what is part of what and whatever… but he actually hasn’t explained WHY there is Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. So as a person who does know, here you go:
England ruled Ireland from the 13th century (can’t remember the reason why, but I think they invaded). Back quite a few centuries ago (1845-1852) Irish had a famine. The famine was caused by their potatoes, which made up 1/3 of their diet, being ruined by blight. This meant they had very little food to live off. However, as England owned Ireland, they were exporting lots of food from them still (making the famine even worse). In the later years of the famine, they gave them corn, but corn was very expensive and not very nutritious. After this, they had a lot of resentment and a lot of Ireland wanted to become their own area (we call these people republicans) but some wanted to stay part of the Uk (we call these the Unionists). Thing is, as a lot of conflicts are often about, there was issues between catholics and Protestants. Most of the Republicans were catholic, and most of the unionists were Protestant. Eventually, Ireland was split in the early 1920s. Only about 40 years later though, the troubles came. This was where the two places would attack each other. These include the Birmingham pub bombings and Bloody Sunday. Eventually, they settled it just before 2000, with the Good Friday agreement. Since then, they stuck to this, and haven’t had much conflict since, but that doesn’t stop some people wanting to become their own place.
TL:DR: England owned Ireland for a long time, didn’t help them during a famine which set off groups called republicans and unionists, and then Ireland split in early 1920s. The troubles took place in late 1900s for about 30 years, and Ireland and England haven’t had much conflict since.
(Please correct me in the comments if I got anything wrong! I only recently learned this 😅)

53% of those born in Scotland did vote to leave but when the 76% of the English people living in Scotland voted No it swung it. You don't know this because you know the sum of fuck all about Scotland, its people or it's cultural values. Do you think it's strange there hasn't been any reprisals against English immigrants? Or do you think that it maybe because they are Democrats and not ethnic nationalists like Farage, Reform and all these other English fascists?

“But it’s not, but it is” No. It’s a part of Europe, that was never up for a debate, you can’t leave a continent, that’s a geographical categorisation. The EU is a union that it left, there’s other European countries that aren’t in the EU such as Switzerland, Norway Iceland, Albania, Ukraine, Serbia and more. The EU only has 27 countries, Europe is made up of 44 countries
