Hello, the pattern I'm making right now is worked with the yarn in double thread. But at one point, I have to stop using the yarn from one of the skein and continue working with only one strand of yarn, for 9 rows. Then, after 9 rows, I have to pick up a second ball of yarn and continue woking with the yarn doubled. My question is : am I supposed to CUT the yarn that I stop using? This is new to me... thank you!
Hi Catherine. If you are working back and forth, you can use one of the methods explained in this tutorial - www.10rowsaday.com/carry-yarn-up - and simply carry the unused strand up the side of the work until you need to use it again. If you are working in the round, I'm afraid it would be better to cut the yarn after each section worked with two strands. So far, I haven't come accross a way to carry the yarn up in circular knitting that will not affect the look of the project.
Same way as you would bind off when you work with one colour, but use both strands held together. At about 3:26 of this video I show my swatches that are bound off. You can see that the bind off edge looks like a colourful chain of stitches. Happy knitting!
The audio was not good, and I could not see how you cast on, too small and fingers so close, could not see what you did with the wool. This is definitely not for a beginner.
I'm sorry you had issues with the audio. All steps shown in the video are also described in the full photo tutorial. You can read it at www.10rowsaday.com/double-stranding
Love your videos . Where can i purchase your stitch holders?
My knitting tools mostly come from Knitca.com.
Does this work when one strand is thicker (like cotton or wool) and the other is thin (like merino or alpaca)?
Of course. You can pair any yarns and get different texture. Happy knitting :-)
Can you please advise how to cast on using two needles and 2 strands?
The same idea is true for casting on, knitting and binding off - hold two strands together and treat them as one. Happy knitting :-)

@@10rowsaday Thank you so so much!
Just what I needed! Beverly
Very helpful video, thank you! Quick question - How would you bind off with this method?

10rowsaday Wonderful. Thank you for your quick reply and all of your instructional videos. You are an excellent instructor,
Thank you :-)
How am i supposed to tie another ball on once that ball is done. the same way you would do with one strand???
Yes, Brook, when you need to attach a new ball of yarn, do it the same way you usually do when you knit with one strand.
You need better sound , I had my volume on max and could barely hear you
Sorry about this issue, Kathleen. It is one of the first videos I recorded. I upgraded my sound recording equipment since then.
This is the video I needed, but I can't hear anything. It sounds like you're speaking in a tunnel.
So sorry about that. It took me some time to improve the quality of the sound. It is much better in the tutorials created after this one.
