    There are likely thousands of shipwrecks down there, if not 10s, 100s of thousands. I'm still waiting for the day when we can release SWARMS of underwater explorer drones and map the sea floor in unprecedented detail - not only the Black Sea but the entire ocean. We'll need a technological breakthrough to do this en masse and on such a scale - but that day IS coming - we're going to discover extraordinary things!

      I've never heard such enthusiasm for underwater explorer drone deep-sea submersible ROVs! What an amazing comment and I work for a company that manufactures pressure sensors that are used on deep-sea ROVs! one of the major challenges is the availability of electronic components and connectors that can withstand these subsea pressures! I wanna see SWARMS of these too. SO SO SO cool

    • @daveroberts7295
      @daveroberts7295 Год назад +2

      It is a relative term. Ships that burn, blow up or run ashore are examples of un-intact shipwrecks. Ships that sink intact in shallow water s like the tropics disintegrate through biological activity. Ships that sink in anoxic water do not succumb to biological activity are for the most part intact and are fairly rare. The Wasa in the Baltic was a Titanic in her day, lost moments after leaving the dock in the 1600s and raised in the 1960s, the most intact ship of her era. Look it up.

    Black sea was also home to the legend of the golden fleece, an when Greeks set up colonies along the coast, the horselords that lived around the region were so proficient that man an horse looked like one entity. Giving birth to mythological creature the centaur. This is also the same region Alexander fought the Sycthian women who were dubbed the Amazons. So much history.

      Nope, Scythians were Indo-Iranian people, not native to the land, and also were far away from the south Caucasus to which Greeks landed to find the golden fleece. The land you talk about is called Colchis, modern-day west Georgia. Greeks made colonies and cities like Phasis, the modern-day city of Poti (South west Georgia).

    why are we using empire state building as a unit of measure? use something that i will understand like football pitches, or 'Shard's.
    topographical depth 3d model to illustrate the depth was cool but show it earlier in video, and zoom out on a larger map to show where that underwater river 3d model actually is.
    also the fact that the ship is super old was not emphasised enough. maybe show an image of what the ship may have looked like.

      For those with an intellect, it was a well spoken explanation that the Black Sea is a strange environment that does not give up its secrets easily. You can't get something out with a snorkel dive like the Russian propaganda has been claiming. It's a very deep, very hostile world down there that isn't for amateurs.
      Or in other words, if the Russians approach this act of piracy with the skill they failed to display in rescuing the crew of the Kursk, they'll just get a load of their people killed.
      For those without an intellect, it's just some old boats 'n sh!t.
