Hey denny, I have a question, I got a pair of zebra finches, about 2-3 weeks ago, I set up their nest and put the nesting material in the cage, and the male was happily building the nest and doing courting sounds to the female and plucking her feathers as a sign of affection. He once flied on the top of the female to mate but the ran away, The female didn't paid any attention, So I changed the female but the male started showing aggression to the new female, so I again brought the old female, And now they were replying to each other courting sounds, going in the nest, but after 2-3 days the female only replies to some of the courting sounds of the male, sits on the top of the nest and observes as the male builds the nest and only once picked up some nesting material and put it in the nest, but they sleep in the nest in the night together, what could be the reason the female not mating, and will they mate??. Btw love your videos
Thank you for the detailed question and for watching my videos! It sounds like your male zebra finch is doing everything right with the nest building and courting behaviors, but the female might not yet be ready to mate. Here are a few reasons this could happen: 1. Age and Maturity: If the female is too young (under 4-6 months), she may not be ready to mate yet. Give her some time to mature. 2. Bonding Process: Sometimes, even with courting sounds, the pair might not bond immediately. Allow them more time together to strengthen their bond naturally. 3. Nest Preference: If the female doesn’t like the nesting material or the location, she might not be encouraged to lay eggs. Try changing or improving the nest setup. 4. Diet and Environment: Ensure their diet includes calcium (like cuttlebone) and high-quality seeds to encourage breeding. Also, keep the cage in a calm, stress-free environment. Since they’re sleeping in the nest together, that’s a great sign of trust. Be patient, and they will likely bond fully and mate soon. Keep up the good care, and let me know how it goes!

Possibilities are that you might be Disturbing them so they are not comfortable
Diet, environment, bedding, sunlight.. These things have big role in breeding.
