My newly installed 38 RCLB has roughly 2 hours of exercise time. 10 min of load draw when we temporarily lost utility power during a storm. Hurricane season is fast approaching here in Florida. I dread the day I need this thing to perform and it lets me down. I have 1000 gal tank of LP so enough fuel for peace of mind. I’m an elevator service tech so I’m well aware of the unpredictable electro mechanical issues that can arise when least expected. I just keep my fingers crossed!

CTKTMRIDER no need to keep your fingers crossed. If the unit was installed correctly with all requirements addressed and you maintain it properly, ensuring the weekly (loaded) test is performed the chances of breakdown are minimal. You need to ensure you have a qualified Kohler service technician - not some oil change junkie - performing the maintenance to ensure the system is updated per all relevant SB and firmware upgrades to minimize any issues. My experience is the people that spend the money for a quality product and spend the money to maintain the quality product rarely have issues. Those that go cheap on maintenance because “it has a warranty” are just asking for trouble and have no reason to complain if the unit does break down due to poor or worse yet no maintenance.

Elite Power & Energy Corporation Great advice. Well I certainly spent the money. Buy once cry once is my philosophy. I’m 32 years in the elevator/escalator troubleshooting and service trade. If anyone knows the importance of PM it would be me. As far as the install I would rate it a 8 out of 10. Only because I’ve installed and maintained industrial equipment all of my life and I have anal tendencies! I can pick apart any install. LOL. However the lead maintenance Technician seems very knowledgeable and capable. Although they are a authorized KOHLER dealer they seem to specialize in Generac. He claims easier install and he prefers the ATF switch designs and technology of the generac over the KOHLER. I will have them do the PM of course and I will do frequent periodic visual checks for leaks, unusual noises and rodent damage. So far so good. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the reply.

CTKTMRIDER if they prefer Generac they aren’t a GOOD Kohler dealer. Keep an eye on them as they will always provide some BS story about why Kohler this or that. I don’t bleed Kohler blood but they make a good product. Most of the Generjunk dealers around here barely know enough to spell generator.

Good to know. They are a fairly large co in the area and the owner himself came out to the house for a sight survey. He didn’t try and talk me into anything that other than exactly what I wanted. Seems like a straight shooter and he’s aware that he will be unable to pull any funny business with me. I am not the average home owner. I spent some time with the service tech during the install and walk through as well. He too knows that they will have to provide me with honest service because I will be able to detect any dickery or BS from a mile away! LOL
