Totally nothing new in the world of parts, no matter where they're from unfortunately. Seen it so many times. Especially when the box shows up and without even opening it you can tell the parts inside are 'pre-tested.'😔
Cylinder liners as door stops. Brilliant!! My Dad worked for NC Marine/NC Power. He'd bring the used cyclinder sleeves home and eventually built a nice french drain with them. He worked on Crab/Fish boats from Alaska. Worked out of Union Bay in Seattle, until they moved the Power department to Tukwila. CATS, Detriot Diesel, and Cummins - all marine engines
Check out Kurtis's doorstop collection at CEE in Oz. They are hydraulic cylinder eyes that are torn open. These cylinder eyes are about 1 1/2 inches thick. Pretty amazing. Say Hi to Safety Officer Homie when you're there.
Thanks for the video. It's been a while since I've seen a Thomas "M Body." I used to work at Thomas with many of the people who designed that bus. They didn't change it while I was there, so I didn't design much, if anything for it.
Excellent work here. Also I have to say there's something just so endearing about those buses that play a theme tune as they arrive and depart. So much whimsy.
Scott doesn't really do that, but Tyler would do things like that all the time on his channel "Indiana Diesel" before moving to Tennessee so it's really turned into a father and son operation, allowing them to deal with more than just old 2 stroke Detroits.
We don’t do body work. Tyler just spent a few hours getting it better for the client. That whole corner needed rebuilt. Lots of welding involved. It’s not a finish to perfection job. For that type of body work you would need to go to a real professional. 10’ away it’s hard to tell it was in an accident now.
Was CAT able to give you proper credit/return on the poorly packed bearings? Sure hope so. Thanks for another interesting video. Merry Christmas to you all! Stay well, stay safe!
17:53 Hearing that 3208 burble took me all the way back to 1st grade when a brand new Thomas Saf-T-Liner 90 passenger pulled up to take me to school. I used to think that was the greatest sounding machine ever. Great job fixing this old girl up.
My high school had a Blue Bird with a 3208 in it. It was built in 1980 and I think my school 🏫 had it all of its life. Unfortunately it's life ended when it caught on fire due to a electrical issue which destroyed it 😢.
Hearing the musical horn on the Wonderlodge it reminded me of the Gornecke family selling HappyMax horns on the movie RV with the late great Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges. Not to mention the lovely Cristin Chenewith.
As a retired heavy truck mechanic I always enjoy your videos Scott, but I can not figure out the audio, like this video the audio was barely above a whisper until the end. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Fast turn around here in UK we are having problems with royal mail to deliver things due to striking over pay, nice touch to engine pulley easy to check for oil leaks in future It's nice to have parts on time to free the shop ready for next bus, but as you know the best plans have the odd hiccup.
Could that be attributed to the privatization of the Royal Mail? Seems that every act of privatization of . public services in the U.K. has not turned out well.
Scott, Just a thought, we used to have yellow lines painted on the floor either side of coach so it made it easier to enter and exit the garage, takes all the guess work out of the equation....
Your really expect a FedEx contract driver to look at that mirror? Hell, they never look at their own mirrors. One hit my antique 3-wheeler (right in front of me) pulled forward and backed out like he had hit nothing. His company denied that one of their trucks delivered here that day. I got even, my winch truck just happened to quit running, pinning the exact truck in a parking slot at a company out in the country. It took about an hour to get my truck moving again. I figured we were about even.
I'm a long distance truck driver. FedEx tractor trailer drivers have been known to be among the most aggressive drivers on the highway for a long time.
It's interesting that Cat sells the 3208 bearings as a set like that. When I replaced the main and rod bearings on my 3126B (also got genuine Cat bearings) they were in boxes individually. That said there were some visible imperfections on a few of them that I had to return and get replacements of. The dealer took care of me on that (although they probably also thought I was being very picky, which I was).
Well if they are supposed to be new parts they should be in pristine condition. Those things are definitely not cheap and it sucks when you get delayed repairing something due to a part that is new which arrives damaged 😮😢
teaching the next gen things was once made right them things had people that fixed them right so much more going on at your shop than just fixing things pass down the things that all most are lost!!
So glad to see you working on CATs. I just bought a 91 Wanderlodge with a 3208 T Turbo CAT. I was looking at Detroits in a Wanderlodge because of all your videos. Is there space available to join your Patreon link?
That is the Achilles heel of the cat 3208. The belts I had a cat 3208 and a Ford travel and I had to replace them every two years religiously because of one belt in the back comes off it takes all eight belts right off with it
One of several. No liners means shorter life. Sleeve metering injection pump had problems sticking causing runaway. It's a cheap engine that was designed to be cheap to buy and throw away.
3 or 4 CO2 FIRE EXtiguishers should be handy, had a carb brew up at work 20 years ago, kicked a dry chemical one out of the apprentice's hands as I was behind him with a CO2, by the way the engine was still running.....
With Bus Grease Monkey, I would not be concerned with service purchasing an older bus anymore....we can see how mechanics fix old buses that do not specialize in older buses....
Scott! Please check your e-mail spam. I suppose my letter have ended there. Ronny Christianson I want to send a Swedish vintage bus calendar for 2023...
Boy~That's Quite the Turnover...U must be so Busy, U Pass Yourselves on the Way Back! It's Good U Guys are The Jack Of All Trades, and were able to do the Bodywork on that Poor "Hurtin' Baby..." Maybe there'll a DAY OFF for U, soon??? 🥱
Build it and they will come!
Looks like you have a bus terminal there…lol. Another great video. Thank you
Dang you guys are busier than Santa and his Elves ... don't forget to stop and smell the Mistletoe !!!
Tyler is a man of many talents!😎
Alpine green pulley - what you get when you have a Detroit shop work on your CAT.
LOL true
😂
It's utterly amazing that they would take a valuable commodity like those bearings and pack them so carelessly..
Have to save 50 cents so that they can pay for the moving of the corporate headquarters out of Illinois and give the CEO a raise.
@@hotpuppy1 That's part of that's amazing,,, did they save 50 cents or did they have to refund the cost of a bearing set ?

Love the exit music from the Endevour wanderladge

Excellent work here.

I second this! Love to see more of the safety equipment coming in.

Yes. The second box didn’t jingle when you picked it up.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!. 🙂

bus after bus sure beats the four or five hundred (or thousand) mile trip to the next one from the earlier days
Yes yes and indoors

Very professional work..
Love the vlogs thanks
Painting that part Alpine Green means that 3208 will run 500k minimum before it needs overhauled.

Nice welding, Tyler. Now, you guys could add body work to the title 😃 Good luck and all the best
Didn't know you did body work too. Excellent job

I can see a couple more bays in the future. Business seems to be going well.
Working 👍
BMG has tapped into a gold mine of neglected buses.............while also exposing a lot of shoddy work done by incompetent workshops.
The Thomas bus looks like the Gillig Phantom
That fire wrench fixes anything dented or stuck....

I thought I saw you in Florida riding in a Prevost getting off the turnpike. Was that you?
Was that a diesel CRD Jeep being towed by the Wanderlodge?
Yes Diesel jeep
@@BusGreaseMonkey I had one of those Jeeps. Still regret selling it.
Are those old Volvo taillights on the back of the Wanderlodge?
Do you think that wheel brain at the end was from sitting a long time? Or water damage?
Hi Scott and Tyler, as GM Detroit Diesel experts, how difficult do you find it to work on a CAT motor?
any chance of a update on Tyler's bus I don't think I missed it but maybe thanks
If you work on any more CATs you might need to start watching the Adept Ape for CAT engine pointers...
Thanks, I will check it out. But it's Adept Ape on RUclips.
@@rayjos0424Thanks... A loose nut on the keyboard.
Did I spot Saskatchewan plates on that bus?
Yes

🤯🤑🥳
Painting a CAT Detroit green is unholy and un American....it'll probably blow up soon....
I have worked on several yellow detroit diesels so turn about was fair play ;)
Do it.
3208 will blow up soon no matter what color it is.
For 9:36 what Cat wants for there parts . No excuse.
Great marriage....old bus lovers/owners and Bus Grease Monkey
That would be a Damper you replaced on the Cat, a Dampener makes things wet.🤔
Don’t be that guy
Worked on a printing press that had dampers in the driveline for vibration and dampness for applying water to the printing plates.
what brand is that wheel alignment tool/laser and where did ya get it?? Thanks
That thing was very cool watching this crew use it. I can imagine thar thing is not cheap.
a regular day GM.
Liquid Wrench penetrant works as good as Kroil, and its way cheaper. Stinks like hell, so it has to be good.
We use PB BLASTER at work.
Kroil smells good too.
Maltby is the best!
