  • A condo company backed by a $15 billion real estate company from Toronto wants to build a massive complex that includes a hotel, bars, retails/office space and condos right on a sacred Anishnaabeg site in the Ottawa River. The Chaudiere Falls and islands that make up the site have been a meeting place for Indigenous people for 5000 years. In the last 100 years, industry turned the islands into a contaminated site and damned the waterfall. The condo company has decided to use an Algonquin word "Zibi" to name this project. The word means "river" but the river is dammed and the water does not run freely. Learn more about the long history of these islands and the waterfall here: • Video
