Thank you for another great video. I find when watching POV videos, especially street photography that as you walk around and take your images, which are great by the way, I find myself thinking there you missed a good one, there behind you, etc. so what I suppose this illustrates is that we all see different shots in different contexts which is what makes street photography so individualistic.
Thank you Alison! Yeah totally agree with that, the video camera captures the whole scene but you can only capture what you’re looking at and some people will be attracted to different things than others, that’s why I love doing, and looking at others’, street photography - everyone has their own unique vision
Your channel is amazing! I love how thoughtful you are with your street photography! Thanks for sharing and helping me think a different way on my street photography!
I like the abstract feeling of the images you take the play with colours and subjects in your photography. Yes it is right that sometimes you go out and do your street photography. You may be on a roll or sometimes you may not get anything I suppose thats the way of street photography 👍🙏👏👏👏
Thanks a bunch! Glad you like the images. And yeah totally, with street photography you never know what you’re going to get, so just gotta keep on trying :)
Superb photography! I just love what you did with the red mailbox, the phone booth, the reflection on the hood of the car - modern Saul Leiter approach... and seeing your process is just incredible. Huge fan...
Photographing the more abstract is my favourite.. Years ago when l started out , dark room and all. l avidly read and looked at work by many of the Photographers/artists of the thirties, and before... .It all looked so easy.... it wasn't ...thats why they're remembered as great artists and I'm not... l did have a few photographs printed in Amateur Photographer during the late seventies/eighties....Is that my 15 minutes of Fame?....After many years 'doing' other things I've returned to my love of the Camera. l found your street photography, taking a more abstract view renewed inspiration. l especially like the the use of Graffiti, rotting posters/paintwork etc!, juxtaposition subjects. Interesting and informative..Thanks .Great video.
Sounds wonderful! I wish the days of darkrooms and film photography was still easily accessible. Glad you enjoyed the video and you’re falling in love with photography again! 🙌🏻
@@timjamiesonphotos The joy of seeing the picture slowly develop never leave you. Equally the disappointment at seeing the negative screwed up and being unusable because of a silly mistake in exposing. Just part of the learning curve..
I really enjoyed this sharing of your thought process and how you approach the variability in street photography. I really like the photo at 13:10 - the framing, colors, light and the subjects gesture. Thanks for sharing!
Just discovered your channel and must say I really like your approach to street and your subject matter. A breath of fresh air to all those others out there. I really like the image at the beginning of the green balls and the lady in the same colour tshirt. looking forward to catching up on all your vids so far. Good work!!
Love your videos, gives me a lot of ideas and inspiration, I really like the torn poster ones, I may steal this idea! I like to use some of my photos to make album covers to playlists I create on Apple Music so I think that would definitely fit for me! Keep creating! 🙂👍🏻
Thanks so much! Really happy to hear that. Yeah for sure, it’s not a new idea to be fair, check out some of Ernst Haas’s abstract work including torn posters, they always inspire me :)
Great video👍 Tim I visit Bristol a lot and recently lost my mojo and burnt out with bristol. But you've given me some great ideas to try so hopefully next Saturday will give it a go in bristol🤞 thanks again.
Thanks so much man! Yeah I totally feel ya, I have mega ups and downs with my street photography but sometimes it’s great to visit a well shot location or somewhere very familiar to you and try out some new ideas. Glad to hear the vid was useful :)
Great video, Tim, and I like this voiceover format also. You have some super images and it's good to see exactly how you work to get them. I love how you created such good shots from the graffiti on the phone box. I would have walked right past that! And your sub-framing is so effective. Very informative and inspirational, thank you.
@@timjamiesonphotos Haha, I did think as much - been really looking forward to this one! Bristol is such a cool place. You did it complete justice with the shots. 👌
Enjoyable post, helpful commentary, pics illustrate concepts well, Tim. Not sure how “experimental” moniker fits in, TBH. Reflections and framing emerge as key themes, though. Red “sale” image - could see that one coming. Lady in red w/negative space theme, right hand “space” too dominant /attention-getting textured, IMO, and lady in red too small. Patterns at 1:19 a fav, lady breaking pattern makes the photo work well. Overall vid format works well - would better connect w/viewers, IMO, if there were a short host talking head intro and closer - perhaps as picture-in-picture. A brief map insert/image showing your walking route in Bristol might also be a plus, for locals. I know you rejected this before (won’t bring it up again, promise😊), but I still believe numbering images would facilitate viewer comment. On brink of 5K subs - congrats.🎉 Cheers!
Thanks Paul! Appreciate the comment as always mate. It’s experimental for me because I very often just see the same old long lens shots of people from far away and lazy street photography videos on RUclips, so just wanted to illustrate what a little experimentation and creativity can bring into street photography for beginners :)
Another great video Tim. I learn a lot from watching you work a scene. I particularly liked the images at 5.32 6.26 8.18 11.55 and 13.06. I noticed at 11.03 - do you use spot metering?
Thanks a lot! I’m really happy to hear that, it’s what I make the videos for so I’m glad you don’t them helpful :). I usually shoot full manual so don’t have a set metering mode I shoot in :)
Thanks David! Appreciate that mate. I always shoot in colour and then desaturate in post, I did a video on b&w street photography you can check out if you like 👍🏻
Well done! I love watching your videos assuming I'm in the same location as you. At 1.40, there are three door frames with people appearing. How about taking pictures of the three door frames horizontally here? Will it be very messy?
Bloody hell Tim you were in Bristol!! I have so many similar images, especially reflection, harbour side (did you go into Millenium sq:) and the arch in Corn st
Thanks Tim for the inspiring video 😃👍 Great idea of framing with text on windows! But how do you focus? Manual? It can be difficult for the camera due to the reflections…
Thank you! It depends but I usually use auto focus for reflections, I use the aperture and try different focal points to get the look I’m going for depending on the scene :)
@@timjamiesonphotos thanks! I guess I have to practice 😊 Street photography is totally new for me. But the few times I’ve tryed it it was great to do!!
Hey! Thanks for the comment :). Not really just instinct I think, I don’t really have a preference over landscape or portrait orientation, I just shoot whatever piqued my interest :)
Hello Tim, I recently discovered your channel and I enjoy watching your videos. It's fascinating to follow your thought process, and I fully agree with what @RaymondLarum mentioned previously. I particularly like the graphic elements you incorporate in your pictures. (My favourites are the ones at 10:41 and 11:52. Thank you for sharing!
When you see a subject reflected in a shop widow, say on the opposite side of the road for an example do you used a deep depth of field or is the aperture set at the distance you are from the window itself? TIA Tim i can never decide what's best
I was out last evening trying some street. I don't think I came home with any great images. I have struggled with reflections. I'm starting to think I don't have my camera close enough to the window. I like you way you, Tim, used the curved line of the S at a leading line to lady in the red dress. I've been trying to frame people in Os. Also I liked the colorful vertical texture reflected in the car. You've given me a few new ideas of things to try the next time I am out.
Thanks for the comment Scot! Street photography really is hard but the more you experiment and try new things the better you gets glad to hear the video has give. You a few ideas to try out! Happy shooting 📸
I am very new to street photography and very self-conscious, though I doo like the results. What thought process do you go through to decide if a photo works best in colour or black and white?
Welcome to the club! It can take a while to feel less self conscious but the more you do it the easier it gets :). It’s colour 95% of the time for me. But sometimes I like to edit pics in b&w but really just depends on how I feel :)
