    If it was me I would make up some more substantial mounting brackets/gussets for that plate that run down the outside of the frame rails, in addition to the traction bar mount. That is a very heavy chunk of plate. If that breaks off going down the highway it could kill someone. That is not something to "It'll be fine" on. You want it to be rock solid with no chance of failure.

      When we were kids we used to ride down the road in the bed of a pickup and pitch our old car tires and watch em blast off into the woods.
      Or roll for a stupidly long time.
      What awesome power, seeing a 60’ tree shake back and forth!

      It has over 4 brace points not including the bar weld. you will notice it start to crack or vibrate when it starts to let go shouldn't be an issue. If he wasn't gonna add the front gusset/bars I'd be sketched out as well.

    You should jack it up and also run several beads or the entire length to the underside of the plate to the traction bar as well.
    Also with the amount of room you have with the bumper cover on and the amount of extra steel plate you have left over you could have your teacher cut several smaller plates (like 4-5” x 34”) You could then drill that main plate for 2 3/4” x 6” or bigger bolts and then weld them to the main plate and you’ll have a mounting point to stack additional plates on top of the main plate if you need more weight on the front of the car.

    Should of used a wire wheel for taking the paint off and check the torch bar to see if it is level and then parallel the weight plate onto the torch bar is square to the plate; and for safety in a crash the plate in front of the tires needed to be turned down so edge metal will not dig into the tires in a front end crash so you do not loose air pressure in a wreck and you can still have control a little better in the event of a crash.

    You definitely want to add more mounts before you drive it (not just for looks), If you get into a front end collision that thing would probably go flying or a big speed bump. Those mounts you welded to wear not meant for that much weight and those two bolts on each side will probably snap.

    Looks good man i think its going to need those extra supports thats alot of weight hangin out there. I drilled a hole in the back of my welder with a gromet and made a mount for an external spool.

  • @matthewhall9530
    @matthewhall9530 6 лет назад

    If you need more weight cut out the back notch out of a rectangle of steel and add little pegs to locate it on top of the first essentially making a stack of plates. You could even make the additional plates out of different thicknesses to mess around with the amount of weight depending on conditions.

  • @demonreamer12
    @demonreamer12 6 лет назад

    I recommending adding some support to the front of that lip of the sheet metal to support it so it can’t flop up and down over uneven Surfaces or getting a harmonic vibration that can cause it to wiggle up and down and cause it to fail and rip at that bar you welded the plate to.
