Dude, get new timing guide rails, chains and tensioner! Don't cheap out now on something so simple but essential.
I don't think they really understands that the cam chain sees 1000hp too but just not at the load the drive-train does. Cam chains are already a part of maintenance at those power levels definitely not smart to go used.
I really hope he changes them. those are plastic and a steel chain rides against them. judging by there color they probably have some kind of grooves worn into them.

I always file the ends on opposing angles. So they actually overlap, creating a much better seal. Guess im the only one that does that.Works for me though, so far havent blown a gasket even with over 100 psi. Lots of other carnage though LOL.
Casey Jobes good tip, what angle to the bore do you file the angle?
@@miatafan Just a 45. but it still works to close the gap. Better than butting them up. So far, its worked well.
Why not put all new timing component in a motor that you are spending so much time and money on?
Especially chain and tensioner

I said the same thing, I’ve only seen it done once on a 12v cummings. But I guess it’s a common thing to do when you push a lot of boost into those diesels.
@@EdwardAlcala ive seen it done in my fathers old engine shop. the best technique was one wire in a figure 8. this is cit into the block and will not fail towards combustion chamber

M Modtomic on my 6.7 cummins i have stainless steel fire rings. Those are welded at the joint ....
When I built motors in the 80s Fel-Pro had copper O-ring gasket for high compression. Also volunteered time at a Aircraft( warbird) restoration shop and a few of those had steel/copper rings also.
I've seen it done this way before

I will always put new Chains in for the Cam and oil drive, if you want big power, it's the same for motorcycles or car engines.
I didn't see you lightly use copper head gasket spray? On the Cam Towers I use Blue lock tight on the inner 10 cap bolts.
It's not recommended to use copper spray on headgaskets with that black coating already on them.

I take it the bores weren't torque plate honed to 100ft/lb with orings fitted?
I cut my O-ring ends on a 45 degree angle, less chance to start a leak :)
I somewhat doubt it'll be 1000hp, anytime soon at least..... be same old start off at round 500.. end get me wrong I get it... But just go straight for it.

@@msnapp169 yes, it actually can when the metal is eaten away by the acid and oils over time.. pretty sure when the manufacturer tells you to do something, then know more than you do.
@@msnapp169 You don't sweat straight up mobile1 do you? You skin has a mix of everything like oils,moisture,salt and this material L19 is susceptible to corrosion from handling similar like how a black oxide fastener can be compromised from just high humidity.
When you guys in the past made B series engines with what's his name. I'm looking to build a B18B1 Ls I think it's called. If I wanna make four digit numbers or so around that area can I have the block sent out for the same applications you did on your K series?
I don’t know if you already did one but if not could you do a difference between the Honda engines video, pros and cons. And if we are trying to do our first build what should we be looking for? What is easiest to work on? What engine can you make the most freedom juice for the least amount of money? I’m trying to do my first build but other than getting the car first I don’t know where to start and which engine is preferable. Thanks

i honestly think that shane is the one that put the most detail into his car! he does not Rush it at all just slow and a lot of time put into his work. and please change that timing chain guide and timing chain.

Issue with touching the bolts is probably the sweaty fingers causing galvanic corrosion between the bolt and block which are dissimilar metals.
I can tell from the colour those are zinc plated. Look at you go

The different bolt sizes on the cams gears is a typical example of that fine Honda engineering and THE reason why i love the brand. Fine Japanese quality developed alongside engineers which (I can only assume) have actual field experience. Small details like that can be found all throughout there products and is a breath of fresh air amongst so many brands that don't. Even premium ones like BMW or VAG. Go from Honda straight to any Italian brand and you'll be having nightmares for days..

This channel is awesome I love it! My number two favorite Channel just under cleetus McFarland and only because Cletus actually drives his cars these guys never really take them out and race them you hardly ever see them at the track there only just chilling in the garage talking about what they're going to do in the future. Never finish their builds! If Kyle ever gets his gear Miss problems out of the way I would absolutely love it! I envy the dude really! It just doesn't surprise me when he finally does and episode where they take their cars out and drive them and even then he usually misses a gear at least one pass out of four. Really like this dude wish you would get this problem resolved. Cletus would have no problem showing him how to shift like a man like he means it shift that motherfucker like it owes you money! Keep up the good work stop cheaping out on parts that you think are unnecessary because 100% of the build is 100% of the build! Weakest link is where you break! Overall I love what you guys do keep doing it please! PS... Get some footage of you guys actually driving your freaking cars
The little square piece of metal is called a key. the slot it goes inside of is called a keyway :P
Just my opinion.... why spend a lot of money on a engine and “scavenge” for used parts? Especially important parts like the timing chain, oil pump chain, and guides? That sh** isn’t going to last very long... just order the oem parts from Honda and wait.. it will save a lot of time, money and heart ache down the road.
You guys keep naming the title 1000HP it would be a bummer if you didn’t hit that number. Knowing Kyle he sometimes can be reserved when it comes to pushing his cars. I’m a OG member so I can’t help to point that out.
