I'm so glad we r not the only ones living in a Dersken. We too are building as we go. Best part is it's paid for as we go. Tiny living is the best... Good job.
A cheat for those big windows DONT buy windows! Buy a glass door with no hole cut for knob and lay in long ways. It runs you about $120 to $140 If you want you can put the door screen on outside and hinge in place so that it lifts up
This is definitely better than my apartment. I want OUT when my lease is up in a few months, but can't afford to even get started since all my income goes to rent. I'm retired and a home just like this would be everything I need to live out my remaining years.
Pretty impressive, young man. Been toying with picking up 10 acres north of Greenville, and doing this exact thing for our retirement. Have 156 acres and a big house, and its getting to be too much. Life seems like it would be more simple and less stressful if we downsized a bit. Again, nice damn job !

So many nice details. I love the electric fireplace, cedar celling accent and Dormer clerestory windows. I like the gray wall color to the right of the fridge, myself, but I agree a lighter color might be less tiresome in the long run.
Looks good. I’ve got a 14x40 ft I am currently working on. It’s double lofted, not to keen on the lofts, I may take them out but I may just use one for sleeping area and the other for storage to keep floor area space. It will have a front kitchen, full bath with walk In shower. Front covered patio area. Full electric and plumbing. Got the shell for about $10,000.
So we start with huge houses that dwindle down into what is now known as the tiny house movement, and looking at these " She'd to house" homes, we're slowly going back up in home size which, is where we started out in the first place. Anyway you two are doing an amazing job and I'd buy one of your homes in a heartbeat. 2 THUMBS UP
I absolutely love this and have been following. I want a 18x56 and cannot find one large enough but I absolutely love your home. I also live in Indiana
I think that it's funny going through the comments on here. Most folks haven't stopped to think about the fact that a "normal" house say 1500sqf. Was considered to be a large home/house not to long ago. People forget that for thousands of years people lived in one room huts that may have been around 100sqf to 200sqf. I've seen plenty of original homestead houses where 10 kids were raised be very small (if not extremely small). In less than a hundred years people's mindsets have changed. So I applaud you and your brother for doing this.
No stove is a great idea as they're just a pain to keep clean and they take away from usable counter space. When I built the kitchen in our hanger I purposely did not install a stove/oven but opted for using a couple hot plates, toaster oven, electric skillets, crockpots, microwave, a deep fryer, pizza cooker, and most important a good BBQ grill. I lived with that setup for 22 years and never once missed not having a stove/oven. If I ever remodel the kitchen in my house I'm getting rid of both the stove and dishwasher.
this is beautiful. I'm 50, and I want to buy land in north Georgia and put a couple of these types of shed/homes for myself and wife, but also 4 smaller ones for my 20, 16 and 16 year old kids (obviously the 16 year old's wont live in theirs quite yet lol) and my wife's parents. 1 big one and 4 small, perfect family homestead.
Ok awesome work. Suggestion putting in three mini split a/c units. One for each bedroom and living room. Also you ca putt rn three burner propane stove with oven. They measure about 14 inches wide 14 inches deep and 24 high. They drop right into the countertop. Again time money. I pulled my stove out of my Rv now workshop and placed it I. My small cabin kitchen. Can bake a pizza or a good size chicken. Has 4 burners. Been using it for like eight years E Z P Z. Same with mini splits. Individual temperature control.
Absolutely love this!!! Im a Derksen dealer with Damascus Portable Buildings in Floresville and would love for you to come & film here! Let me know if youre interested
Gorgeous! Can't wait to see bedroom space. Surprised you didn't put a half balcony in there. You have the room... Great job, and LOVE the cedar! Time consuming, but O so beautiful when you're done. Loved the way it looked from outside! Practical! Thanks for sharing the wealth of info! Great idea!
WOW! Man everything starting to look really beautiful inside! You and your twin doing an amazing job! The only thing is, I just can't see me hanging my TV that high above the fireplace! I'd have to bring it down about 2 feet for my enjoyment. BTW, that fireplace so nice. Also, love the front porch. Nothing like having a big nice porch where you can sit outside, and enjoy the nature.
you folks are doing fantastic. Love how it looks now. May I suggest a NuWave oven, cakes, to turkeys, sure beats that microwave which kills all vitamins and mineral values to food. GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU, See ya again soon.
There's no way you guys are twins - but its all good because I get that too about my twin! I really love what you guys are doing - this is awesome for those us who don't want to be house poor!!
Like I said a bit ago this home is the best one I have ever seen !! Omg a shed , this is a mansion to me !! We have family who live right outside of Terrell Texas another nice place in a state we plan on moving to in about 2 years ( maybe sooner) bringing our 401ks to buy some land and plant down roots. I am a native west Virginia resident, so was my great , great grandparents, my hubby is a naturalized citizen from Mexico city, he has been in the United states 36 years and we have been married 31 years raised 3 sons. Our grandkids are almost all grown up except 1 . West Virginia is a beautiful state but living only 50 miles about 40 minutes by train from Washington D.C. ppl are running from high taxes and traffic in Va and Maryland and Pa and bringing there crazy liberal views here and messing up our beautiful state !! I promise when I move to big and beautiful Texas I will not bring any craziness only a good heart and mind my business. God bless all of you and as i have said , your home is gorgeous. All of you are amazing !!
An induction cook top would work better, and it's more energy efficient. I have one in my RV so I don't heat up the inside of it with the gas stove. I also purchased a GE induction range for my home. I love it.
Questions for anyone who has a Derksen building, regardless if it's just a shed or a conversion to a house. How long have you had it and are you still happy with the construction of the shell? Would you recommend Derksen buildings now? Did you get the spray insulation? If so, Any problems with it?
I can't help but notice that the larger the "tiny homes" become you start to realize just how much space we begin to waste. I thought a 8' x 16'-18'-20-etc to 32' was always to narrow regardless of how long it is. But, that's to meet highway specs for unrestricted travel. The more sensible design for a feeling of comfort & full size features such as appliances of what a "home" represents is not what's regarded as a tiny home. 8' wide is really a glorified travel trailer. The water, electrial connections are for RV connects & that's understandable. So, since I live in a 800+sq ft home I can honestly say 250-350 sq ft is not being utilized because it's designed for a dining table or China cabinet, etc. I believe if u account for the sq ft practically used & with multiple purposes used daily I would say 150 sq. ft for each bedroom with closet included & a over the top loft for 1-2 children depending on ages. And given a 100 sq ft for both kitchen & living room & u have 1-1/2 bathroom. Thus a 3-4 member family could be comfortable in a 500+/- sq ft home. A 14'-16' x 40' is really all we need for a families needs & I notice that most of these sheds are about $13k+/-. With the payments listed on a 4-5 year plan it's still cheaper than a full size fixer upper & payments nearly the same even with the fixer upper on a 30 year note. The importance of this assessment is that it would really help this younger generation to try & budget to save the $13k needed to pay for the shed in cash that way by owning the bones of the home a "Interior renovation" should be easily obtained @ a low interest rate to build out your finished home. My hope in all of this is that Financial institution will recognize these designs not as travel trailers or Mobil homes but regular houses & be willing to finance them over a 25+ year term. The Financial burden on this countries younger generation would not be forced to pay both 30k-100k student loans & a large home mortgage.
the reason why tiny homes are such a draw is because current home prices are exorbitantly priced. investors and flippers snatch them up slap a coat of paint on them and sell them for huge profits. not to mention 20 years people were buying homes for half of what they cost now even more in some places. we don't need tiny homes, the market needs to come down because it's ridiculous. no one can afford a home.
whitter86 In my neighborhood the houses *used to* be in my price range. Now all these affluent kids in their 20s are moving here, buying properties with their trust funds, then flipping them/selling for a price I will never be able to afford. And who's buying them? Other rich kids from out of state.
Exactly. What's worse is the companies out there that are building the new homes are just building generic shells. I recently went house hunting with my sister and some of the new homes we looked at were very basic. Neutral cabinetry cheap fixtures and overall design of the home was simply distasteful. It reminded me of how a military housing edition would be setup. How can a person, who is spending already too much on a brand new home expect to sell something later on when they aren't even starting with the most basics of a good home? Already the homeowner is losing money since they will have to upgrade all their cabinetry, fixtures, etc. I blame the fact that the current society mentality is that everything is disposable so now we are making disposable homes. It's really going to kill the appreciation value of a modern home.
Kinda funny people bitching about prices but this thing will end up costing more than if you just bought a 16x50 mobile home, in fact you could get a bigger one. That is essentially what this is, an unfinished mobile home. I can't see where this tiny home movement is any cheaper. Price depends on location, if people spent time looking around, they could get something much nicer for the same amount of money. It'll be sorta hilarious in 10 years when these millennials get tired of living in such a confined space ( I am referencing true tiny homes here, this is NOT a tiny home).
Wrong Whitte, We need small homes because of energy prices and waste. I chose a 12x25 being a single man, but it's still big enough for 2. It costs $50 a month for all electricity, including A.C. and heat. No more $200 electric bills for Me. Plus the base building was under 5k, no mortgage whatsoever. My total monthly expenses are $150 including cable, Internet and electricity. It makes living on a small income possible.
get a air fryer oven .I use mine more than my oven in my range .Great job by the way .sheds these days are overlooked as a home and can be a much cheaper alternative to a high mortgage .I turned my shed into a guest house and every one loves it
I must be watching these totally out of order because I’m just seeing this. Lovely “main” room. I NEVER would have guessed you guys were TWINS. Great job on the house, although I feel like I said that in one of the other videos where you were further along, or maybe even finished (?)
I know there was a company doing pretty close to the same layout as youll done. I tried contacting as it would have been easy to do. Sadly never heard a thing from them. I would build one myself, but im in no shape. I been wanting one for my own property. Looks good i will say.
damn looks like a mini mansion love the wall good i lived in forney for about 5 years worked at the lowes there should get jobs there u can get lots of home supplies cheap w discount and on clearance and custom made returns
Wonderful job! It would be great if you could also share some cost estimates with your viewers. It would really help those of us aspiring to undertake s similar project. Thanks!
You did good. When you folks get the money, put a metallic roof on it. It'll save you in the long run being where you are. I live about 50 miles from you.
The wood accent wall for the fireplace and the wood ceiling in the dormer above the entry turned out amazing!!! Looks like it’s magazine ready really. I was wondering tho about the wood. I know you said you used cedar but is it rough cut or smooth finish and did you stain it or use a sealer of any type? Did you use tongue and groove, shiplap, or plain cedar boards? I’m in process of putting wood on my ceilings in my living room, dining room, and kitchen and I really like the look of yours. Doing a fantastic job, take care
if its a 16-50 how is the one room 26 ft wide ?? im not hating just wondering if yinz added on.✌ It Looks Grate .you couldn't ask for better my opt dream .but I'm older & wish I could of known bout these sheds .GRATE JOB YOUNG MEN ..👍👍
The building is 50 feet. Each bedroom is 12 feet. So 50-24=26. So its technically each room is 12x16 and the main room is 16x26. Thank you for the kind words!
You all must not be identical twins, huh?? You guys have made a real nice house. What I want to know is, how does the county treat a shed to a house? Here where I live you can put a shed on your property that sits on blocks, no poured footing. But I don't think they would go for living in one. Does the county have some ruling about using one for a house?
OK, cause I was talking to my wife and she was tellin me about a woman she knows who had contact the county folks here and she said they don't give a rat rectum, as long as it is built using 4X4/skids and it sits on cinder blocks, not a permanent foundation. Kinda crazy. can live in a shed but if its permanent, then they gotta inspect every damn thing in the world. Hell if I had known that. when I moved here I would have gone the shed route, instead of building a house that cost a hell of a lot more. My hind parts don't care where they sleep. Ok guys thanks, looks good, @@TheCrockers
Hey man I know this is an old video ... I have family in Greenville! Let me know if you need any extra help. working Contractor here man! I love to latch on to some of these stylistics man. Looks great
@The Crocker Homestead....Thank you for your response.....Ouch, but...Compared to Central TX, Thats cheap....Hmmmm..Might have to relocate.....Well, Take care.....Your place is really nice....As a note..I got 2 buddies that have signed thier life away on a 30 yrs note on houses in the $2 to 400,000.00 range...I would be too worried , but they my age...mid 50's...So if these get paid off..They will be in thier 80's ....Dont know what they was thinkin"...????
Can I ask you a question how come you guys went with a great big shed home Instead of something more conventional I mean for what you paid for that after you have finished it out you could have bought like a really really nice double wide already done brand new with a warranty or you could have bought like the biggest single wide that they make with all of the upgrades and it would have been bigger than this
We personally don't like mobile homes and what they're built with. We've been in plenty, and they fall apart fast. So we customized our own home and put the quailty materials in it that we wanted
So...cool...so you have a bedroom n a bath on both ends...I was thinkin tiny..but I like this a lot..thanks for posting..2x6 or 2x8...16 on center walls?
Did you check into the local code laws and specs for turning a shed into a tiny house? I know a lot of people have had to totally rethink their plans. And
The Crocker Homestead I beg to differ, if you haven't checked into it. Things will come back to haunt you. First the sheds are legally built to live in. There is not only county and state requirements also federal requirements to make it a legal living dewelling. Best to talk to code enforcement, to be sure. I plan to do the same but found out a lot of things. So before I even start I plan to talk to code enforcement in the area I plan to buy property.
I'm so glad we r not the only ones living in a Dersken. We too are building as we go.
Best part is it's paid for as we go. Tiny living is the best... Good job.
Exactly! It may take a bit to finish... but no mortgage payments!
A cheat for those big windows DONT buy windows! Buy a glass door with no hole cut for knob and lay in long ways. It runs you about $120 to $140 If you want you can put the door screen on outside and hinge in place so that it lifts up
Tisha good idea!
Brilliant idea
We got all our windows for around $200 total at Habitat for humanity restore. So you just can't beat that! But... that is a good idea!
Great idea!
yup...been doing that in the recording studio for years...you can also use glass coffee tables you find at goodwill to make cheap windows
For been a shed this is so much better than my apartment💆💆💆💆
Junior Fannx if i could give your response 10thumbs up, i would!
This is definitely better than my apartment. I want OUT when my lease is up in a few months, but can't afford to even get started since all my income goes to rent. I'm retired and a home just like this would be everything I need to live out my remaining years.
Crocker Homestead!, WOW! How beautiful! And yes, everything takes time and money but so far your place/space is amazing! Kudos!
Thank You! Follow us on Facebook and Instagram if you haven't. @thecrockerhomestead
Dirty Blond thank you!
Do it..I live with my dad on 9 acres in Greenville after living in Dallas for most of my life and the country is where its at
Yeah we officially moved in October and love the country. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram if you haven't. @thecrockerhomestead
free roaming vapour The country is getting swallowed up. I predict there will be nothing but city from Dallas to Oklahoma City in a couple of decades or less.
At present, you can drive through city from Plano through Wylie. 😦
It's great
So many nice details.
Very nice! Thank you! If you haven't checked us out on Facebook look up "The Crocker Homestead"! :)

You did a great job on your house, love it.
It's going to be beautiful 😍
The accent wall makes a huge difference, great job!
Very nice home Crocker Brothers! I’m considering doing the same so thx for the inspiration!
That's awesome! Do it!
An dinner counter space island in the middle would be a great addition.

Looking great !!!
Could you do a video of how the bedroom and bathrooms are set up?
Yes ma'am. We will have one up soon. We all have full time jobs so only able to build a little at a time.
I know there was a company doing pretty close to the same layout as youll done. I tried contacting as it would have been easy to do. Sadly never heard a thing from them. I would build one myself, but im in no shape. I been wanting one for my own property. Looks good i will say.
Awesome build, really nice job.....
Adam Boyd thank you!

Wow I love it!! Looks amazing!
Very nice!
that cedar is so very pretty!
Wonderful job! It would be great if you could also share some cost estimates with your viewers. It would really help those of us aspiring to undertake s similar project. Thanks!
VERY VERY NICE!!!!!!!
l love that you set up that amazing TV & fireplace, even though other parts are still in progress
WHAT kind of TV is that
Regina Estrada it's a 65 inch 4k Sony tv.
I like the porch + lights!
Well done! Love it!
Very nice.
Just love those counter tops! Nice job!
I’m thinking about doing this myself
You did good. When you folks get the money, put a metallic roof on it. It'll save you in the long run being where you are. I live about 50 miles from you.
It will save you money if you wait for the current roof to start to get bad, opportunity cost
Love the fireplace wall!!!
Great home
Thank you so much! We have a ton of newer/updated videos on it as well!
Where did you install a water heater?

Beautiful house sir.... The World Series was sad though.
nice job
Very nice
Very nice set up and It's so spacious. You guys are blessed. Thank you for sharing....congratulations...😊😊😊how much you paid? I am very impressed.
We live way outside city limits with very few restrictions
My dream home
I’m about to get me a Derksen too 16x50
I love how you have done everything. What style of shed is this? I didn’t hear it mentioned. Thank you.

That's a great idea! Will look into doing this.
Dammmmmm !!!!!...Dude...You Ballin'!!!!!....How much was the land cost.....????...I'm from Central Texas...Land here is ridiculously high!!!!
ToyManFlyer1100 it's about $25k an acre here. We're doing owner finance, so we got payments we could afford. But yeah, land prices are way too high!
Beautiful
So nice!
We’re in terrell Texas too !!!
Brittany Kidwill nice! We love it here. Far enough away from the big city, but close enough to commute when needed!
My husband works in terrell and I work near canton so we’re looking around to do the same as u guys !
Love the house any new updates...

Looks great
Thank you! If you haven't checked us out on Facebook look up "The Crocker Homestead"! :)
Awesome!
Wow I have a 16x50 shed out back I wasn’t doing anything with but you gave me some great ideas do you have a blue print
So we customized our own home and put the quailty materials in it that we wanted
this is so great
So...cool...so you have a bedroom n a bath on both ends...I was thinkin tiny..but I like this a lot..thanks for posting..2x6 or 2x8...16 on center walls?
Did you check into the local code laws and specs for turning a shed into a tiny house? I know a lot of people have had to totally rethink their plans. And
Ron Clark no restrictions out here in the country
The Crocker Homestead I beg to differ, if you haven't checked into it. Things will come back to haunt you. First the sheds are legally built to live in. There is not only county and state requirements also federal requirements to make it a legal living dewelling. Best to talk to code enforcement, to be sure. I plan to do the same but found out a lot of things. So before I even start I plan to talk to code enforcement in the area I plan to buy property.
Ron Clark we did our homework
The Crocker Homestead well just trying to give you a heads up. Lot of people have been loosing their tiny homes.
