My mom would have loved this. She passed away a few yrs ago. Bubble Bobble was her favorite game. She played it daily. She did a complete run with my dad daily lol. Imagine this as a kid and your parent is hogging the nes lol

Great memory! My wife and I finished this multiple times on the PS1. They had a combo with Rainbow Islands.

If I don't mention it (I might have clipped it when I re-shot the first gameplay) The is noticeable screen tear when the screen scrolls. That said it does not scroll often so it minimizes the issue.

Thanks Rob! Bubble Bobble is a super fun game so this handheld is tempting. I'll probably keep an eye out for if it goes on clearance. I know if you keep an eagle eye out for after the holiday sales at Walmart or Target you can sometimes pick them up cheaper.

Agree: at $20 this would really be an easy impulse buy -- not as easy at $30. It's quite good though!

It looks good. It still pisses me off they are NES roms and not arcade roms, but anyway.
This and the Galaga look the best for me. I would also have liked the Pac-Man if it didn't have the issues.
Also, I completely agree, Rainbow Islands is the weakest one. I never played BB2.

IMHO Rainbow Islands, the original arcade version, is an awesome and very original platformer. I don't know anything about the NES version, but there is no way that it is even close to be one to one with the arcade version. Very disappointed that those are the NES roms... C'com, how hard is it to the get the rights FFS!
Anyway, using an emulator like MAME, FBA, or FBN, I REALLY recommend playing the real Rainbow Islands version!
EDIT: Just finished watching the video and yeah, the NES Rainbow Islands does not hold a candle to the real version. It has nothing to do with it. In fact, for home game consoles, it is probably the worst port that there is. If you guys didn't know, this is actually one of the games that had the most ports. Like 12 ports! From the 16 bits era, there were 1 to 1 ports. The PC Engine one is very good! The bonus one for Saturn is probably the best. Anyway, if they didn't want to port the arcade one, why chose one of the worst ports that there is? Why not the MD or PCE one? Disappointing, like usual with My Arcade (which, BTW, is a very ironic name for a company that almost always use NES ports of ARCADE titles in their multitude lines of devices...)

@@Unholy_Louie Well said and I more or less agree with you. Though I always prefer the Amiga or Atari ST ports (depending on the game). Having said that, my point about Rainbow Island was actually against it being pushed as the sequel to Bubble Bobble, you know back in the day when it was originally released. That pissed me off. The game itself is good, but IT'S NO BUBBLE BOBBLE! :)

Dear Chinese Manufacturers, please pay no attention to Retr0Rob. We love how you've been working to make the *product* better than the box. Plus, your boxes are sturdy and reusable, even if they're not flashy. Keep putting the money in the right place. --The Internet

Yeah this is probably yet another Famicom handheld with the built in games. Here they are just using an old fashioned mapper so the 3 games can be played instead of 100, plus I bet its got only around 128 kB chip installed.
Anyway its good that part of the money goes to Taito !

For those who want this for Bubble Bobble part 2, don't bother. It's extremely buggy and unbeatable due to a glitch on round 60.

NES only on this one. Bubble Bobble Part 2 was a NES - only release. Weird thing is Rainbow Islands is also Bubble Bobble 2 and was released on the NES. Bubble Symphony is Bubble Bobble 2 as well, but fortunately was NOT released on the NES. What a confusing mess.

    The screen looks terrible.
It looks like the NES game, rather than the *much* better arcade game.
    It looks cheap and nasty.
