Whomp'Em was my final NES game that was given to me on my Bday back in my elementary school days... pretty sure it was developed or at least published by Jaleco who did the bases loaded games... great game, lol.
I remember that one, where you attack with a spear and go through trials themed after fire, water, etc... Yeah Jaleco made some fun games and I feel like they never got the same love as bigger companies like Capcom or Konami. Maybe they'll do another Pocket Player with Whomp 'Em and City Connection or something like that someday.
I have some of the arcade ones that you're talking about that look like the actual arcade machine the bubble bobble one I actually got for Hanukkah and I recently got to dig dug in the bases-loaded one on the same day or within a day of each other I love the Pac-Man one I also have the miss Pac-Man one was actually the very first one I got I got that one last year
Apparently they are working on an Atari collection one and a 6 button Street Fighter 2 handheld, but I can't imagine trying to play SF2 with this d-pad. I'm hoping that they adjust it a little to make it less stiff. But I love these Pocket Player handhelds.
@@TooManyHandheldsI bought the mega man pocket player pro and it's so good. 6 NES mega man games and they play well too. I almost bought the street fighter one but the control pad ruin it for those types of games. For anything that doesn't require street fighter inputs, the directional pads are great.
The most insane thing about the Contra one is that you’re limited to like Six coins before it automatically gives you a game over and I’d be stunned to see ANYONE beat Super C on six hits
I saw these at a Walgreens and was pretty shocked that it was a device that just had roms on it. Nintendo and other 1st party companies should really take advantage of this idea and release these kind of devices in retail. People would easily pay $20 for a simple little device that just played SMB1 or any other game. I know they have their little game & watch style handhelds but I'm saying they should really push for these types of devices.
It is kind of surprising that there aren't more devices like this. Arcade 1up made a microconsole with all 6 NES MegaMan games, and that's okay for what it is, but I would have preferred a handheld like this that had them instead.
@@timothybowden-pk7fqI think part of the issue is fastly saying we have the arcade ROM and then it's the NES version. Now having said that 🙂. There are loads of quality NES games that would do quite well on a handheld. Dragon warrior 1 to 4 Final fantasy Willow Zelda 2 adventure of link Battle of Olympus Legacy of the wizard Sports games too Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl Blades of steel Superspike V Ball Nintendo World Cup Super Dodge Ball Double Dribble NES open tournament golf
i have the bases loaded one. i love it but my only issue is the screen has to be viewed at a certain angle or there's a blur & distortion on it. the graphics quality is nice too so that threw me off. all in all it's well worth $20.
thank you for an informative look on these handhelds... might've missed it but do these offer any ability to save progress?... perhaps a save-state function?
Thanks, and nope. No save states or anything like that just the original games as they were. It would definitely be a nice feature to see in the longer games like Contra.
Thank you, I appreciate it. For now my goal is just to put out videos and if people watch them great, if not, I'm having fun making them. Weird handhelds is pretty niche-y topic, but again I appreciate it.
At least with nintendo games like the mega man games or dragon warrior games for example, you get lots of playability. With my arcades atari 50 handheld, they dont have long games like raiders of the lost ark, (requires 2 joysticks) riddle of the sphinx, dragonstomper, or ET the extra terrestrial. The my arcade atari 50 at least has adventure so thats food. If my arcade did a handheld that did console RPGs and action RPGs, you would be busy for a long time.
There is a new one with all 6 MegaMan games and I'll do a video on that eventually along with the Atari 50 and Street Fighter 2 Pocket Players. And I agree, some of these pocket players have a lot more replayability than others.
It's a weird brand name for a company that uses mostly NES roms. Maybe the arcade licenses cost too much. I do wish the Contra one came with the NES version though
That's a great price. I'm surprised these haven't dropped more and I was hoping we would see more arcade ones like Contra, but it looks like the series has been stagnant since I made this video.
@@TooManyHandhelds yeah in bases loaded 4 you can hit a pop fly and the runners advance but the outfielders still throw to the infield and umpire calls it out, I’ll try that
*Definitely give you tiger electronic vibes*

Oh yeah they were quarter munchers. Even on the NES I need the Konami code and without it I'm lucky to get past the Waterfall.

I have the one with 300+ games. Most are shovelware, but it has some hidden gems like snake, lawnmower and a R-Tyoe clone.
Thanks for all the info. My brother and I saw some at GameStop, but didn’t know much about them.
SNK needs to make one of these
damn you have a colection of these handhelds
I will give my Mimi. I will give my Mimi my arcade because she loves me. My Mimi loves me. I will give her everything. I love you.

How do you control the runners?
In Bases Loaded? It's B+the base you want them to go in, but they also move automatically.
