They deal with too much overtime. I was reading that they are mandating uniformed officers to do 60 hours work week. That takes a beat down on the body and morale. Also can’t wait for the next video seems very interesting!

Yup got a friend in the uniformed division. Saw him after he's been on the job after he's been on for 2 years, and it looked like its sucked the life out of him.

A great book to read to learn more about why the morale is at a record low is: “Secrets of the Secret Service” (2018) by former Uniform Division officer Gary J. Byrne. It’s an eye opener and jaw dropper, it’s an agency in desperate need of an overhaul.

I wouldn't do SS uniformed division. I've seen what they do, and it seems like a very miserable job.

The worst job according to a friend is being the White House rooftop snipers and watch.

When I was there, it sucked. It still sucks, but that's the job. It ain't for everybody. Those who did the job know the rewards of being there for our nation. WETSU! Worthy of Trust and Confidence.

Do you know if the Secret Service will take veteran applicants after age 37?

Yes. Depending on how old you are. I think the absolute limit is 42, but I would check with the agency. They are hiring for Special Agent and UD right now, so check with the recruiter as to their max age limit. It varies from one agency to another for vets.

Aside from training, how hard would it be to hold a job in the NYC or NJ area? I understand there are field offices and I'd like to stay in this area if hired.
      Any information is appreciated

    • @user-et1hg6kh6n

@@kevinconnor4802 There is no incentive for them to place you where you are from right out of training. You will be asked for a list of places you want to go based on field office locations but theres no guarantee you get anything on there. That said im not sure what voodoo they are trying in order to retain people these days and NYC is considered a priority to fill since no one in their right mind wants to go there for work, so its possible you have a shot at it. I would not recommend the service personally, there are plenty of other more rewarding agencies to join in federal law enforcement.

@@bbbbb702 Hiring and training is basically the same with some minor differences for their investigative and close protection functions. Morale is generally low across the board on both sides, alot of travel and time spent standing post for long hours. The glamor of the job has it perks but wears off quickly when quality of life or family begin becoming higher priorities which lead most people to find work at other agencies or in the private sector.

@@bbbbb702 Depends what your'e looking to do for a career. A corporate security or EP based career would benefit from time in the service but im finding alot of companies are ignorant to security needs and will still require rather meaningless security certificates on top of your service time to be competitive for the private sector. There are ample other 1811 series jobs with better work life balance however, bureau of land mgmt within department of interior, National Parks special agents, NASA, possibly the FBI etc, and it isnt sexy but IRS could be hiring for alot of crytpocurrency based jobs soons as well which if you can land in there and get out in a few years to go private with a crypto company that could be really big money as well.
