Haywards Of Cambridge - BSA Feels Like It Belongs

- A trip to Haywards of Cambridge for the Local Royal Enfield Owners Club Meet and a ride out organised by Haywards. Of course, Haywards are no longer authorised Royal Enfield dealers but are now Authorised BSA Dealers. Yes, enough is enough and when being outstanding at what you do is no longer target, you have to get out and start again. That’s what it appears Haywards of done. Walking round and talking to fellow bikers, looking at all the classic bikes, eating bacon butties and drinking tea, it’s easy to see why Haywards are a centre for motorcycle enthusiasts. I have no doubt that Haywards will thrive with BSA and their own classic line up. Of course they can still do all the servicing and repairs they have always done and to their own high standard.

That little Yamaha 400 what a ripper, in my mind i could even smell it running. Thanks TAYM 😊😊
Yes, a cracking bike 😁 loved it 😁
Wow, that is a lot of eye candy! A vintage biker's dream dealer. Thank you for the video!
Absolutely 😁 thanks Wally😁
Eh up Taym
Hope you’re all good mate some brilliant bikes and especially to me the BSA’s A10/A7/A65
Plus the Matchless beautiful that!
Still doing some great videos I must say 😍
Top man
Lovely Triumph you’re riding there
Phil
Thanks Phil 😁
great collection of bikes and a nice look around the showroom, workshop and tea room 😁
Thanks Ice 😁
Funny how everyone walks past all the new stuff to see the proper old classics, fantastic.
😂😁 exactly as it should be 😁 every one of them with a story to tell 😁 thanks Mike 😁
first time at Saturday meet up , a fab morning well worth the ride over from Wellingborough , Haywards is a wonderful place ,
Thanks Jo 😁
Yes it was me that fitted the Bullet seat to my Classic, but it was the even better Touring Bullet seat. In 8 hours last week covered 180 miles and was as fresh as a daisy when I got back home, 9 AM to 5 PM. 😊
Some lovely bikes at Haywards and what a great shop 😊
Excellent 😁 thanks Peter 😁
Great selection of bikes. When I was a poorly paid apprentice back in the late 70s, the RD400 was my dream bike, I had all the brochures and road tests, but alas couldn't afford one, and I still can't!
Thanks D 😁 great bike 😁
What a wonderful event!
I wish my local shops got the support to hold events like this. Even if they did, the vintage bikes wouldn't be present.
Haywards and your motorcycling community.... Splendiferous!
Favorite bike, I can't do it, there were too many!
Thanks for taking us along Mr TAYM.
Thanks PW 😁
Excellent! more of these videos.
Thanks BB 😁
Evening TAYM, some beautiful bikes in there, but that red RD eh! 👌,
Also the new BSA in red looks the business!
Speaking of the Enfield's I finally got out on the Guerrilla and really enjoyed it , sent a couple of photos,
Have a good week ,
Cheers Mel 🍻
So I see 😁 thanks Mel 😁
Delighted to see BSAs in an environment which suits them, rather than looking uncomfortable in some modern showroom. Lots of lovely bikes there too, mind you I've been spoiled as well and I'm hoping to get a ride in a Royal Enfield Combination soon (fingers x'ed, weather permitting!)
Excellent 😁 thanks CMD 😁
Most enjoyable, thank you TAYM. Bertie's going to be sad he was left behind 😪 Has he fallen out of your good graces?
Thanks Felix 😁Bertie could never fall out grace 😁
The 70 s made some of the best bikes , my favourite years
Absolutely 😁 wonderful, exciting period of change 😁 thanks Paul 😁
@@TAYM very welcome taym
Good one TAYM - Haywards is on the list for my next trip looks fantastic ! Ive put the Bullet Touring Seat on my Classic 350 and its great, changes the ergonomics makes it more spacious, now waiting for the new Bullet handle bars as you have to reach too far forward for the Classic bars ...reckon I'll do a full conversion to the Bullet ( all it needs is new tank, mud guards and covers :)
Splendiferous video Mr TAYM. All those nice bikes and sunshine too. I hope it's not the last nice day before the clocks go back and I wrap my bikes up for the winter. Take care.
Thanks Dave 😁 yes, not long now before it’s dark early 😕
Lovely to meet up with you Mr Taym, I think my vote got to be your very own bike .smashing colour. Looks so good in the flesh, then second place the yam 175 scramble. 😊
Thanks Kevin 😁 yes, the scrambler looks fun 😁 see you next time 😁
Hi Taym, beautifull bikes and what a nice shop haywards is! I did the one ride this sunday. On the road for 9 hours, still walking with a peace of meat om my buttom ha, ha.
Thanks for this splendifferous video. Regards from Holland
😂😂😂😂 hope it was fun 😁 thanks Berry 😁
Great video I quite fancy a Royal Enfield ,they look a great bike
Thanks David 😁
Fabulous machinery there TAYM... I remember a ride out I was on a few years back; a rider in the middle of the group decided to head for home early and took a sudden right turn off the prescribed route - 50 odd other riders ended up following him and ended up at his house by mistake ! 😅
😂😂😂😂 brilliant 😂😂😂 thanks Dave 😁
The Yamaha dt looked great
Thanks Tim 😁
It were great seeing the 425 and 400 four together. Both bikes of my youth. And then the rd400 almost had me nursing a semi. 😂😂
😂😂😂😂 thanks Trev 😁 I know exactly what you mean 😂😂😂
Morning taym nice little meet up for a Saturday morning I take it that Norton 650 looks a beautiful bike for £6.500 be a nice bike for dry weather bimbling on a Sunday loads of chrome though to look after pity they don’t still do RE though Colchester Kawasaki sells RE so I here but I’ve also heard bad things about there servicing so not any dealers in this area is there now good video take care
Thanks Nick 😁 also heard last night that moonrakers may no longer be doing RE 🤔
@@TAYM hi I just can’t understand why there stopping selling RE when there doing so well in the bike market trouble is if there’s no dealers near to us you don’t want to ride half way across the country to get it serviced or get some parts fitted I certainly don’t do they’ll lose out on sales but we’ve got to spend double the money like buying triumph don’t tell Jake 😂😂so for me triumph it will have to be oh well that’s life take care mate 👍
@@nicholasjarrold8649 yes, sad but RE just put to many demands and restrictions on them. RE seem to care more about appearance of there dealers than about the service they provide.😕
Hi TAYM 👋. Haywards looks a fabulous place. And what a marvellous collection of oil leaks too !! 😂 l wonder if back in the day, dealers had a drip tray on the options list? 😂. Regards, Mo 😊👍.
😂😂😂 I know, hilarious isn’t it, good old days 😁 thanks Mo 😁
I love that Kawasaki 650 very nice and those BSAs they do look good 😊
Thanks MsD 😁
Some lovely bikes but what caught my eye was the Bradbury 4 post hoist. Joseph Bradbury and Sons of Braintree, about 30 miles south of Burt St. E....) made and exported those all over the world in the 100s of thousands from the 1920s onwards. I even came across one in a small garage in outback NSW. Lot of history connected to those hoists. They are still being made to the same specs but not in Braintree anymore.
Excellent observation and history 😁 thanks Colin 😁
Very nice classic BSA’s there Taym 👍😎🏍️
Thanks Derek 😁
Always brilliant to have a mooch around Haywards I like dealerships that have some history. I do think it is a shame that the Royal Enfield connection has been broken but RE seem to be going more towards the more trendy dealerships which is a shame. I hope BSA works out for them but somehow I can't see BSA getting the volume of sales atm.
Yes, RE are shooting themselves in the foot I think, turning their back on their roots🤔 thanks Mike 😁
@@TAYM I Agree, their USP was that they were an everyman brand offering good value but they do seem to be pushing their brand image towards the premium more "hipster" type image.
@@Grumpy-Goblin quite😁
Know how you feel about Haywards, we have bike shops down here in Devon just give you a lovely feeling every time you go, now I am a pensioner keeps me out of trouble ( POOR 😢) but out of trouble, hopefully all these bike shops can keep going times are 😢 not easy for them.
Excellent 😁 not too many around any more 😁 thanks AW😁
A smorgasbord of lovely bikes👍👍. I see that the cones have moved on from Haywards.....😁😁.
😂😂 thanks GBD 😁
Lovely bikes there TAYM but th RD400 stole the show fer me😉although that Suzuki 425 did come close I like that shape and model of GS .Take it you guys didn't fancy the ride out then might have missed some fun 😁I do wonder about the BSA brand still only one model out there unless you know something different maybe ?😊👍
Thanks Crumb 😁 no, we had to get somewhere else unfortunately 😁
Great video as always TAYM and some lovely bikes. Meant to ask before, where do you actually live? I lived in Bury for most of my life, as soon as the video started my first thought was "what's he doing in Mount Road" A long long time ago it was part of my school cross country run. If I tell you the nearby A14 was still a railway line, you'll know how long ago!
Thanks Nubby 😁 that’s a very long time ago🤔 40-50 years ago 😱
The new BSA certainly sits really well in that 'old school' showroom environment. Have they sold plenty?
Thanks Trev 😁 yes, sold all they had including the demo 😁 more coming though 😁
Nice one brother
Thanks RKB😁
They might think you’re leading the ride 😂😂😊lol.
😂😂😂 exactly 😂😂 thanks MsD 😁
Great dealer. If only there was a petrol station nearby! 🤔
😂😂😂👍
😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂
My first mopeds were pedal start Raleigh runabout which I bought at 14 to strip with my dad. Sold the plate for quite a lot of money. Then got a mobylette and quite like it, again sold the plate and bought a 3 month old FS1e oooooh
Thanks Volt 😁 those were the days 😁 such great memories 😁
Morning Taym 😊 ha ha it nearly ended in being a two ride. What was the bike that the old chap was thinking of buying 🤔
Just watched it again, Mash thought it was a Yamaha 👍
😂😂😂a mash 400 😁 looks a fun bike 😁
Yes, it looks Yamaha ish from the 80s
I wish dealer's would carry old bikes here. I have found that you can buy old bikes by a person that will tell you what you want to hear and it's as is. 😊
Yes, a very risky business 😁 thanks Blake 😁
Treid to get to hayeards twice for the meet but got lost round cambridge
Let me know next time and I will meet you outside Cambridge 😁 thanks Steven 😁
Thanks will do
First !
😂😂 excellent 😁 Thanks John 😁
When’s the one ride filming?😢
Never filmed it I am afraid 😕 sorry 😁
@@TAYM that’s ok, the Haywards man cave part was simply wonderfully Splendiferous!
@@Lostoldman thanks D😁
Is the ginger cat still there?
Don’t know🤔 I shall have to check 😁 thanks Loki 😁
Wondered where Banana Man had got to 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 thanks Mark 😁
Did the Enfield club end up following you home?
😂😂😂 no, I think they realised 😂😂 we did bump into them later though 😂😂 thanks JH 😁
Im guessing you don't like Shovels?
Thanks B 😁 I have nothing against shovels 😁
I'd have the z 650 and the RD 400.
😁 a couple of belters 😁 thanks Mark 😁
64th🤬 cooking Cheese burgers 🍔.
😂😂😂 enjoy your burgers😁😂😂
Great excuse tho RR, what's more novel and new. My excuse, I was watching a yacht 40 footerish spinnaker out running before about a 15 knot northerly. Looked great just on dusk...so now motorbikes what a way to spend an evening...could do with a cheese burger tho thanks RR😊😊😊
Bev's Best Burgers 🍔 😋 👌.
I don't doubt that mate...you should have been a chef @@ruahinesrider
@@ruahinesrider 😋
turn up on a non r.e. ;; i said you would ;;
😁😂😂😂 thanks Simon 😁
Its such a shame that RE did not show the same loyalty to Haywards as Haywards did to RE , seems to me that RE are getting to big for their boots , i will consult Mr Cone on this
Absolutely, terrible 😕 thanks Michael 😁
