WATCH MORE - Queerbaiting has long been a problem within film & TV. So what does this term really mean? Here's our TAKE: ruclips.net/video/fkxpDaToMD0/видео.html
You're right that the diversity of relationships absolutely sells the show - this series can be wacky as hell, and I mean that as a compliment, and seeing all these people deciding to still pursue love and queer joy is a necessary grounding. I don't know about anyone else, but the whole episode with Calypso's Birthday, especially Izzy finding his place in it, almost had me in tears.
@@yoshimasu_k I am crying right now, where I live I cant watch the show, he was my favorit in the first season I hoped for an redempton ark, now I learn he got one and still got killed of . . .
I truly became so fond of Izzy and the crew embracing him and he embracing them back was so heart warming, Calypso's birthday was definitely a beautiful episode. I love every character in the crew, and I hope we see another season of OFMD.
If I could describe the show in a word, it would be safe. It's a breath of fresh air to watch a show that is so unabashedly queer and goes all in on it to the point where it cannot be misinterpreted. I've definitely been burned by queerbaity shows before, but you don't realize how hurtful it can be to experience those stories until you see a story that does the opposite and reminds you that you deserve joy and happiness regardless of your gender identity or sexual orientation. I hope more people watch the show after this video!
Thanks for talking about this incredible show! I've never seen a series so unabashedly queer and accepting of everyone. Stede and Edward have captured my heart and their story will stay with me forever :) Hoping for season 3 renewal news soon!
FINALLY the show starts to get the recognition it deserves. I adore this show. And I'm so glad my favorite channel is talking about it, it's actually shocking!
Check out Good Omens next, the two shows goes hand in hand. Instead of a dark leather wearing pirate in love with a bookish blond pirate, you have a dark leather-wearing demon in love with a bookish blond angel. Both funny, both a gay romcom in their own complicated ways. And the writers are fans of each others series. And the fan base loves both.
@@Zinakhan2024I still recommend watching season 2 if you have not. A lot of attention is given to the spoiler in the last episode, but the season itself is very cute. And season 3 wont come out until at least 2025, assuming they finish filming next year.
this show means so much to me. it makes me feel accepted and hopeful in a way i've never felt before. the story is splendid, the humor is on point, the visuals are brilliant and the performances are breathtaking. i had the time of my life this october, waking up on thursdays, shaking in excitement to watch the new episodes the moment they came out. i want a season 3 more than anything. i doubt i'll ever get sick of this show
The show tells a bold story that is more current to reality and its good that these kinds of storys exist. I am enjoying it more and more and am a fan of Darby since Conchords, but the cast is fantastic and interesting. The show grows on you quickly, and the end of season 1 was fantastic. I was constantly reevaluting my perception of the show without breaking my immersion.
I love this show so much. It’s so refreshing to see a character realize their queerness later in life. And I love that everyone on the ship is just allowed to be who they are. It’s such a goofy, wholesome, healing show!
Our flag means gay. At some point- the knives in their flag gotta turn into rainbow color, or the kitty's gotta turn into a rainbow kitty, or a kitty with rainbow overhead.
I loved this show so much. I cried so bad. Like, the last thing I expected was to cry watching such show, but I did. But this show made me think. It's something that has been on my mind for some time now. I've watched Down Low with Zachary Quinto which is a silly comedy and still made me emotional at the end. And then Our Flag means death. Both comedies. And then, I'm watching Fellow Travelers. It's a drama but it proves my point. How is it that male homosexuality is portrayed more often, with more layers and in such a beautiful, kind, complex and multidimensional way, but we don't see the same thing for female homosexuality? At best we have a bisexual character, at worst we have a teenager whose homosexuality is completely filtered through the male gaze, and whose homosexuality is supposed to be sexy instead of a real thing, instead of love. I hate it that misogyny robs us from real complex representation of female homosexuality. The last series I actually enjoyed the portrayal of gay women was in the last season of Master of none. I crave for real characters, real love between love you are deeply and madly in love with each other, but are also complex in their individuality and just full of problems and joy and love. I want to see real portrayal of lesbian relationships with all of its humanity and complexity.
@@theforgetfulalchemist where did I say it said it was a problem? 🙄 All I said is that often, when female queerness is represented, we have at best a bisexual character. It's very rare to see well made TV series with gay women. And often, bisexuality in women is also poorly represented and done so through heavy male gaze.
Overall I loved the show. What I didn't love was the inclusion of some actors that I didn't care for before this show ie: ex SNL actors. I just could not separate them from their previous gigs. I did, however, believe Taika Waititi as Black Beard. On an unrelated note, What We Do in the Shadows TV show was disappointing. I loved the original movie. Cheers!
You didn't read the letter did you? At no point did the letter even mention Palestine. It was all about Hamas. Now you're not saying that a group of terrorists were correct are you? They also don't say bomb Palestine they say to take only the steps needed to defend themselves. I say this as someone that thinks Israel has gone way too far and is now attempting genocide by the way. But hey take a black and white stand on a issue full of grey, such staunch unbending mindsets are only how we got in this horrible murderous mess in the first place.
@@johnwerner69 11,000+ Palestinians dead since the seige began. 4000+ children. Dozens of Israeli hostages killed by Israeli bombs, funded and provided by America who could easily pressure for a ceasefire. And no end to these horrors in sight.

This show is so funny, charming and ruthless. It really talks about so many themes in a ridiculous but genuine way. It's my favorite show right now.

All the queer normativity was so refreshing, and so was the diversity! Plus this show was so chaotic and hilarious 😂

Season 2 is worth it. It's adorable.@@Zinakhan2024
Unfortunately season 2 is so bad overall, I turned in my fan card, it was written like a lame sit com. Season 1 is a masterpiece.
I absolutely love how kind the show is.
Omg, a promo that is well written by someone who understand the show, 🙏 ❤🏴☠️❤️❤️❤️❤️

People who think we love OFMD because of pirates should watch this video to understand why this is actually one of the best shows ever made...
I cant believe a show like this exists. What a time to be alive!!!
And they went and cancelled it 😭😭😭

I LOVE THIS SHOW IM SO HAPPY YOU TALKED ABOUT IT WE NEEDDDD S3
Thank you for covering this beautiful show. Highly recommended!
I love it because it’s a uniquely queernormative show. It’s not a story about queer people in a straight world.
I feel like this show is queer pirates meets Ted Lasso, and I am HERE FOR IT! 😊❤

Roger Whittaker, the Last Farewell should be an ending song to this show.
