The open source community is improving models to be on par with GPT4 without the censorship or the paywall but at the same time people are using GPT to prompt itself to complete complex tasks without guidance. Soon those fields will collide and you will be able to run a localized AI better than chat gpt You can already download and run these models, they take up less space than a AAA game and easily run on anything with decent memory. Many of our current digital tools already have APIs to connect to and manipulate digitally. Adding in recursive thinking and access to these tools is only going to accelerate the space further.

Many of the models are running through the CPU with my 32GB of RAM being the bottle neck. I can run a 30B parameter model but it's sloooow. But if you were training the model I'm thinking you would do it through a cloud service like Google Collab or AWS instead of dropping several thousand on a scientific GPU you'll seldom use. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Idk I might just be delusional though

This technology is obviously moving fast, and most data puts it at exponential x an order of magnitude. Thats very hard to even conceptualise. Businesses don't want to waste time and money on extensive testing. Here's the thing (and I'm going to use fully self-driving cars as an example), most people think the self driving AI has to be perfect, when in fact it only needs to be better than us. If the insurance company finds that a human truck driver has, on average 1 accident in 50,000 miles of driving, whereas an AI system has one wreck in 200,000 miles, the insurance company is going to charge significantly lower rates for the AI driven truck.
