Racing Enduro On The Cheapest MTB From Amazon! | We Fitted Upgrades
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 апр 2022
- How cheap is too cheap for a mountain bike? We would always suggest people look for a good quality hardtail when starting out and buying a new entry-level MTB. However buy second hand is also a great option. We recently gave Blake Samson a few hundred pounds and sent him bargain hunting on Amazon, to buy the cheapest 'mountain bike' he could find. After the 'Can It Shed?!' video, Blake thought we could add some upgrades and take it to a local Enduro race!

I was at this event. Blake was on average 20 seconds quicker on each stage. I was on a £3.5k bike. Just shows bikes don't bring the skill. Time to invest in coaching rather than shiny bikes 🤟🏻
Hey Stuart! It does go to show how much skill counts! We hope you did well in the race! Safe Riding!
Just keep riding. Sometimes the best investment isn’t money, just time. You don’t really need coaching, after all there are a lot o free videos to help you improve your skills on GMBN and more
imagine how much faster if he was on a 3.5k bike.... bikes do bring (compensate) skill :)
i've been saying that for 27 years
Well, the thing is that one may have not enough time to develop the skill as they die suddenly riding these cheap bikes, so money invested in the bike still matter for the skill development😉
Seriously though, most of all I'm amazed here not by a skill itself (don't get me wrong, it's still impressive) but by the bravery on the verge of insanity it took to do this on this thing at all. I'd be scared if someone drove this thing near me, let alone actually trying to ride this thing down the trail 😂
Blake won the event already when he parked the bike on the kickstand in front of all the fancy ones hanging on a pipe 🤣
8:19 "Is it carbon?"
I died XD
To be fair, rims like that are either very low end or very high end.
@@daray666 oh, i thought he ment the frame! That makes way more sense
Low carbon steel
@@wantahertzdonut *indiana jones and the adventure of the hardened steel spoke*
I really want to see Doddy doing a full maintenance on the original bike.
I want to see Sam Pilgrim do a maintenance on that bike xD
It could be a candidate for Sam's Free Bike Challenge but, I'm pretty sure that Blake just rode all of the usefulness out of it.
We think that would bring Doddy to tears! 😂
@@gmbn Exactly why I want to see it 😂
@@gkrefft He'd probably just put a steering wheel on it 😀
Blake now beacuse of you they will be advertising this bike as race ready :D
Hahahaha
😂😂😂
*with mods
price just went up 20% haha
technically it is...
The Lyrik Ultimate must be 2-3 times the total value of the bike.
more like 10 times lol
even the helmet is more expensive than the bike
@@mtbbaz You´re following the pace of a Downhillbike??? Crazy... goods skill man.
yeah when he said $2000 worth of upgrades I was like jeez I upgraded my bike with about $1500 worth of upgrades and the only thing original on my bike is the frame and rims now.
Haha! Quite possibly! 😂
How about a post race tear down and damage report? Curious to know what is bent and broken😁
Man that was sketchy have you lost your mind good luck with your Amazon return LOL
Moral of the story, BLAKE IS THE MAN and kickstands are sweet.
Congratulations, Shows how good your quality of your riding abilities and skills are.
Blake smashing this race despite the obvious! It shows how valuable riding ability is! 🙌
As soon as I saw the video i was like "I wonder how they fixed the shock/linkage problem for the race" ...but they didn't at all, awesome Blake, huge respect!!!!
Me too hahahaha
Can't believe he raced it without fixing that up! Blake is absolutely out of mind... in a good way as it seems!
Same, they should have inserted a proper coil and reinforced the linkage with some kind of dampers to prevent bending the tubes.... Nope
Stick a tennis ball between the seatpost and rocker arm that will sort out the rear shock problem. Remember to take a pic and send it into Martin for HACKS N BODGES-HACK N BODGES. Fast on any bike with style points too, Legend Blake.
Blake: "wanna see something crazy?"
the viewers: "let's see you get a refund for that."
But in all seriousness, THAT was one hell of a performance!!
Blake smashed this out the park! We doubt he's getting a refund for it though! 😂
"Chain's back on! Yes!"
The noises coming out of the bike *and* out of you were amazing.
I was waiting for the rear wheel to go every time you dropped off some rocks... I don't think I would attempt that!
Yeah, huge respect levels for Blake! 🙌
I think it was the right idea at that quality the cheap wheels would have probably collapsed
you should get doddy to do a full tech comparison with a normal full sus to show people what to actually buy 🤙
Very impressive 26th place finish on that thing! Even more impressive that you finished at all and didn't die!
I love how you kept the kick stand on it 🤣🤣
It gave the bike a lot of personality! 😂
@@gmbn
I agree! Very swag
I am sure the guys that finished behind you with there 4K and 5K MTBs were probable crying in their beers after that race.
I think Martin Ashton has a secret life insurance policy on Blake and likes sending him on deadly dangerous assignments! You should really confront Martin about this Blake! 🤣
Haha! We'll have a word! 😂
Blake you’re one crazy man! Keep on shreddin my guy 🤘🏼
We can't believe how well Blake did! He totally bossed it! 🤘
Well done Blake. I felt your pain on those downhills for sure. Proves that even a worst bike can't put down a great rider like Blake.
Honestly is impressive how the chain doesn’t lose. Base shimano still works fine
Front mech is a drop proof chainguide if properly set up. In the worst case you just push it one gear up and the dropped chain pops back up
The sounds coming from that bike are something else! 🤣 kudos on not dying, that requires some serious skill
Tbh though, as someone who got into mountain biking only when clutched derailleurs and chainstay protection were standard, my GF's ~2010 Trek sounds like a death machine. I rode it once when a buddy was over and I gave him my Enduro bike. It's a nice bike, XT/SLX mix of components, full-sus with some acceptable Rockshox stuff on there, but the chain was rattling soo loud, I always though I hit the derailleur on something or dropped the chain. But it was soo fun because it made trails that I usually see as "the easy way down" pretty difficult. Admittedly, that was probably mostly due to me, who usually rides a large, sitting on a small frame with old geo.
Hah, that bike is amazing 👏. Can't believe it survived without falling apart, here at Kenya bikes are children luxury, the few of us pros and ametures have midrange bikes, but we're too poor to afford a full top of the range any-bike, those who can afford a 6000 dollar bike are too busy for cycling and would rather buy a car. I remember only 2 enduro race have been organised in kenya.
Left the kick stand on 🤣
"Balls of steel" Blakes, you deserve an award ! Your insurance may possibly increase after this video 😁
“Helll no… Hellll no… Chain’s off… everything’s off…”
I’m dying 😂😂😂
This has officially become my favorite MTB video!!! 😂
10:46 wow tu karipap sardin tu...Blake pun suka karipap.cicah dengan jeruk bawang la oi baru ngam 💪
Bought my self 2 years later a 429 2022 whyte 29 xl coming in a week can't wait finally a decent bike for £999 love your videos bro inspired me to take this up properly
This is funniest/scariest thing I have ever seen. Balls of a rhino to do that, big respect Blakester... :)
The reason you got 26th is the revolutionary Active Rear Triangle Chain Derailment feature the bike has, coupled with the Seatube Indent Long Travel. Every time the chain came off the suspension became more active, the dent in the Seatube affording more suspension travel when you needed it. Haha. 26th, and shredding that thing, laughing and styling it up as well. Blake living life to the max
Geez you're an amazing rider! Your videos really are encouraging and really motivate me to get out and ride even though I have a bike from the mid 2000s! Thanks again!
It's great to see that you're loving the content! We can't thank you enough for the support! This sport isn't all about the bike as long as you're having fun!
The most entertaining bike vid I've seen yet and what a torture test I'm just glad that bike didn't fold up under you.
Do an Enduro using an old bike like they used to ride back in the days of “repack” - get your best Gary Fisher impersonation going!
“A craftsman never blames his tools” - my dear grandfather!
but Blake was definitely being held back by this cheap Amazon bike - I’m guessing top 10 finish on his actual bike
Yeah, I would like to hear from Blake. At this race, with a good bike, could you achieve top 3, top 10???
wow, what... 26th! On a bike you expect to break on any turn or drop. That's just gnarly, scary as f. I'm proud of you blake! :)
Imagine seeing Blake at the bike park on a Eurobike and thinking, "If Blake rides a Eurobike, I'm going to buy one". Later that week, Blake is making a video how bad it is, even with two thousand pounds of upgrades.
It's just mindboggling how that rear linkage held up to that abuse it got. It looked so flimsy, with thin thin parts, parts touching the frame etc. Just incredible. And the wheels, how did they not snap or something, flexing like hell. Really dangerous i reckon.
Cheap bikes are really overbuilt because they assume the users don’t know anything about bikes. If you see like a huffy or Schwinn it won’t be the frame that’s breaking, they’re probably tougher than higher end frames because they’re heavier. It’s the parts that break
Such a good episode. You made me smile so much watching you send it today Blake! 😆🤘
Wow I can't believe how the hell that bike made it through all the races, i thought for sure there's no way it would survive the really rocky trail, i thought the wheels have had it on that one but damm Blake you the man.👍🤘🤣
Balls out good for you, video is harder to watch but wish more people used the chest rig
Holy moly that was one hell of a ride for an amazon bike. Some skill on this one Blake! Fear is an understatement and I would have run out of prayer beads on one of those had I attempted even remotely thinking of something like this. As an aspiring mtb rider, I tip my hat.
Amazon need to advertise its placing in this enduro as a selling point 😂
That was awesome man🤘 so funny. I can't believe you finished that high up on that bike. Put money that was the only bike in the paddock with a stand😂🤘😎
Haha! We don't they'll be a trend any time soon! 😂
You should organize an Amazon spec bike race where everyone has to race one of those heaps and no mods.
Absolutely amazing result Blake! 🔥👊🏼
What a crack up from start to finish. I ended up with very sore smile muscles from watching this with an insane grin on my face the whole way through. Hilarious stuff guys.
Well done Blake great effort dude 🤘
Crazy idea riding that piece of kit 🤔 in an Enduro event🤣🤣🤣
Shows just how good you are on a bike of any type 👊🤘
Great stuff #GMBN
What a result! Very impressive Blake 😊👌
Your the Man Blake😎 good thing for testing this Bike for the ones who on a Tight Budget😀
26 on that peace of 🤬 omg Blake you are the absolute king!! What an amazing place to get on that 😂 just goes to show all the gear no idea but it also works the other way.... Brilliant 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
LOLOLOL when he put it on the kickstand HAHA!
Please do a tear down of the original bike. I could do with a laugh watching bits of bearing fall out of those hubs. I watched the original feature and I'm sure that during one segment, as you walked the bike into shot, that the rear wheel was completely out of alignment with the front i.e. the bike had twisted by quite a few degrees. Good effort for surviving the enduro, never mind beating over half of the field.
Glad you surived. But man did they ever get that rear suspension design and setup so very wrong. Ugh, hopefully that BSO gets fully retired before it hurts someone.
Awesome stuff Blake proving once again the rider is key and a shiny all bells and whistles bike won't win races .... it may help you if your skill level is up there but the bike by itself wont make you faster by its self....... Great riding Blake you are nuts and up for anything just about. well done
What's impressive is you completed the race .
I can’t believe he was able to find room for improvement on this flagship bicycle!
The fork upgrade made that bike slightly less "Aaaah!" and a little more "Wooo!"
@GMBN @blake The cheaper the bike, the higher the Sphincter Factor! But good to see You still had fun....
Hours later..still chuckling at horrendapig 🤣🔥
You’re a brave brave man Blake, WOW!!!!
Some crazy speed and turns😱
Blake you are definitely one insane dude
You kept a lot of fun in this one and congratulations on living through it
Definitely a few major upgrades to be able to at least get through this
challenge
Again congratulations on living through a very strange unique bike setup for this race that you said you would do just for s**** and giggles
What an effort Blake, happy race😄
Blake is a beast! Love you man!!
Vittoria mezcal is a GREAT tyre, its a climbing beast for xc routes, max grip🤟😃
Goes to show if you can ride like Blake then the bike matters less. Ride what you have and have a blast!
Awesome Blake 🙌🏼. I can’t believe you made it the bottom on it tbh but that’s down to your skill and a few prayers 🤣.
Nice video. More entry level bikes getting used hard, please!
You might already have done it, but would love to see how specific upgrades improve the bike. Say 100£ vs 500£ shocks, etc.
Nice riding as always Blake 👌
Hahahahaha absolute love the content you make keep it up💯
I think the Megavalanche on the Scout would be better than this 😅
Blake, you’re the champion of every council estate kid on the block who will never be able to spend five figures on a all singing, all dancing full suss. Mind you, the same kids would rather be dead than ride a Amazon mash up!
Oh and thank you for proving that shredding a MTB is possible with a KICKSTAND! All hail BLAKE!😇🙏😇
WELL DONE BLAKE GREAT RIDE MATE
Nice job Blake you made it on the death bike !
It was the kickstand that made the bike!!!!
HES BOMBING ON THAT TOY NO WAY LOL
Honestly amazed at the fact this bike didnt explode.
I cracked up after seeing the Lyrik on that bike. But damn! Blake is a beast regardless of whatever bike he's using.
Man that was scary. But it seems that bike is tougher than it looks...and sounds ! 😂 Hats off to Blake !
Blake is a BEAST!
I reckon you'd do better than most in a Wish mtb, let alone an Amazon one. Good show 👍
Good one mate!!
Amazing result Blake ! 🤟 just goes to show if you have thd skills, you don't need the latest and greatest bike...but you were very brave to ride that thing down those trails
So true, Phil! 🤘
You sir are an absolute legend 🙆♂️
Good job! He did what he said 👍👍👍
Honestly. Your killing it on that bike!
i'd want an entire video full of hardtails
Only Blake could pull that off with a big smile on his dial. That was an awesome effort on the bike. His front forks cost more than the whole bike did originally. I wonder how badly destroyed the bike would have been if it was never ridden before that event? 🤔 I think that's probably better to be left a mystery.
Well the cast iron made it to be somethign after all, a chear up for us the low end bike users out there.
Your a brave man, fair play 👍👍👍👍👍
Yes new Video😍😍
I think if they'd out a longer shock in the rear it would've stopped the linkage striking. And helped some?
I'm glad he didn't die! If only you'd known to firm up the shock from the start! Maybe you'd still be able to move the seatpost. Too bad you didn't figure a way to brace the rear triangle. Did you service the wheel bearings after the first video?
You could've welded the rear triangle/linkage and you'd have probably a decente hardtail... 🤣
Worth another video, a downhill run as it is with the "rear suspension" as standard timed against a run down the same hill with the rear welded up solid.
@@Franksey180 Blake has to do it 👌
@@filipegil8752 Would be great but he commented in the video the parts would be going back onto one of his other bikes, sounds like game over for the Amazon bike. Or.. He could give to Sam Pilgrim, he likes to thrash random bikes :)
Well done Blake 🤘
That kick stand 🤣👍
Funny to see how hard you shred that bike!
Ah I see, GCN and GMBN's most favourite budget bike - Eurobike. 😆
