Good info on only spiking the fifth string to change Key to D or E tuning while leaving the other strings in standard G Tuning. Also capo at fifth fret in G Tuning to be in C tuning. That's is most helpful to know! Good workshop.

I understand what Michael is saying about target note being about where you are going in the song progression. Also maintain the rhythm. Counting off however has never been a strong suit for me. In fact I'm terrible at it. Rhythm is just something I feel it isn't a technical counting I perform. I wish I did have an ability to do it since most musicians rely on it. With me it's just a sense I have. I know when it's time to return to the verse.

I'm coming from Scruggs style trying to find a way to accompany myself when solo....and clawhammer has caught me!!! Very cool some really great concepts. Tell me more about the pick Michael uses on his ring finger please! I'd love to see his basic clawhammer stroke too.

Ric.... it's a Fred Kelly Finger Pick.....sometimes called clawhammer pick. You can find them on line.
