    Thanks for the update if I recall you were the very first owner RUclips review that hit the internet on the new ranger. You're definitely an early adopter good luck to you! Also I think those MPGs are pretty respectable for a truck. I think as you increase speed wind resistant really comes into play especially in a truck.

    • @daedalus9042
      @daedalus9042  5 лет назад +2

      HiPlains1 Thanks! You’re right about the speed and MPG. Drag is the enemy of MPG. This truck does have good MPG if you can avoid heavy stop and go traffic, but in the city or congested areas it will be quite hard to hit the city or highway EPA MPG rating.

    The 4x4 is rated at 20 city / 24 highway / 22 combined. You can bet when the EPA is testing (in controlled setting in lab on resistance rollers) they are not testing anything close to equivalent of 80 MPH. So I think your MPG is on the mark.

    • @daedalus9042
      @daedalus9042  5 лет назад +2

      Smarticus yea I’m satisfied with it now. Think I was just a bit spoiled by my last few new cars which beat EPA MPG by 10% at least. Those were all manual transmissions though.

    Thank you for the honest review. In all honesty I believe you are only getting 1 mpg better than my 17 F150 3.5/10 speed. I routinely get 22-24 highway at 75 average mph. Slowing down to 60 gets 25 plus easily.My worst tank ever not towing was 18.1 Like the Ranger the F150 is very sensitive to speed and throttle position...drive it in boost and mpg suffers big time.Drive like there’s an egg under your foot and 22-24 mpg all day. Not sure where you were but the background noise was horrible,traffic or a heavy river flow whatever it was took away from the video ,I’d try to avoid that area when making videos lol.

    Thanks for the updates. I have about 2k on mine as well in three weeks and I agree with many of your points. If the steering column would adjust bdck even just one more inch I'd be fine, but I feel like my arms are always hanging and it's tough on long trips. A quick fix for the door lock lights, carefully mark over then with a sharpie a few times, it will dim them enough that they aren't as annoying. I do this to all of the little led lights that seem to come on everything these days.

    • @daedalus9042
      @daedalus9042  5 лет назад

      Good idea with the sharpie. Makes me wonder if I can glue a tiny piece of theatrical tint over the light to change the color as well. 🤔

    • @lewisgeer1994
      @lewisgeer1994 5 лет назад

      Steven Vargas
      When i need to non-permanently dim a bright LED indicator light, i’ll use a tiny piece of electrical tape that matches the surroundings best. If it doesnt dim it enough, put another layer on until you get the desired light output. Then one day when you want to return to stock, you just peel off the tape and clean off any residue 👍🏼

    Did you feel like you needed to weigh down the rear in winter conditions?

    • @daedalus9042
      @daedalus9042  3 года назад +1

      The back end does get loose on ice and snow. 4x4 usually takes care of that issue, but like all trucks, adding some weight to the far rear should help.
      When we travel during winter I load all our gear against the tailgate and strap it down to help with the weight distribution.

    Steven why did you go with a four door and short box instead of a two door long box(would have liked a 6.5 ft. bed personally instead of a 5"1' or 6"1' box.)?

    • @daedalus9042
      @daedalus9042  5 лет назад +1

      C7 GT1 I’m mainly transporting bikes and kayaks. The problem with Kayaks is they’re too long for even a 6.5 ft bed, I’m going to need to use a bed extender that hooks into the tow hitch anyways so I’d rather have the cab room. I can always extend the bed or use a trailer, but you can’t buy a cab extension if you decide you need more cab room 🙂. I also like to hike and it’s more likely I’d need to transport people than long loads.

    I finally got to sit in 2 Rangers at a local dealer. I know for sure that I'll have the lighter colored interior and running boards on it if I end up getting this truck. It was odd that the power window controls on the driver's side were so far back on the armrest. Only a baby's arm would comfortably fit there whilst using the window buttons. The leather interior in the lariat seemed cheap and not anymore comfortable to sit in than the XLT cloth interior I also sat in. So don't worry about the Lariat seats being anymore comfortable on your drive. And it's ok. Please keep making more Ranger videos. Its nice to see a review from an actual new Ranger owner. Thank you.

    • @daedalus9042
      @daedalus9042  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the info on the Lariat. Still haven’t seen one in person. You’re right about the window controls. I don’t think I’ve noticed since it’s been so cold and I actually haven’t had the windows down at all. I’m sure that will be annoying when it’s warmer.

    It seems like you got decent mpg considering you were driving 75-80 mph and the terrain of NorCal and the Northwest. I just made a deal on a 2019 XLT FX4 with the black out package. I won’t have it until Wednesday because it’s coming from another dealer. I’m super stoked! Any updates on mpg since you’ve put some more mileage on it? Thanks for the videos by the way!

      I’ve done a few more trips. Creeping up on 20k miles. Got about 25.5 MPG on a trip to Missoula, MT.
      No issues besides a faulty battery since the skid plate stuff was sorted out. Got me out to a lot of cool hikes and camping spots over the past year.

    I was able to stick an ignition key in a Ranger XLT I was in at a dealer today. Holy crap! There was a lot of play. First, without the key, the ignition cylinder was wiggly and then when I put the key into it, it felt even looser. I pointed this out to the salesman who did acknowledge what I was seeing but could not explain it. It looks like your issue is normal with Rangers but I hope they end up fixing this soon in the future.

  • @lbjailer

    Gas mileage may increase after a little more miles as the engine is still breaking in. The higher octane is for obvious performance and the computer automatically adjusts timing depending on the gas. Definite higher octane for towing. I would just use the 91 all the time, that way you know you have full power all the time. You mentioned going up the mountain hills; was there any issue maintaining speed or did you have to keep the engine in higher RPMS? I've had 3 Rangers, (older ones), and a older F150. I'm debating the Ranger or the Jeep Gladiator, just waiting to see the price on the Jeep. For the price of the Ranger, you could get into an F150 for almost the same price. I'm in no hurry, so I'm glad people like you do these reviews which helps in making these type of decisions. Thanks.

    • @daedalus9042
      @daedalus9042  5 лет назад

      This thing handles hills like a champ. Like I said I drive down to Los Angeles several times a year. That drive has 3-4 major climbs through mountain passes. This has no problem accelerating up hills and doesn’t struggle at all. If there’s one thing about this truck I can’t complain about it’s the power and torque.
      I test drove a F150 last May but decided against it due to the size. It might not look like much on paper but it’s a world of difference when you spent a lot of time in downtown areas like Seattle where the roads really can’t handle large vehicles easily. If I was out further from the city or if I had another smaller car then I might consider the F150.

  • @derekmckean5593

    Please use manual calculations...miles driven between fill ups divided by gallons. Do NOT use the trip computer. Those are usually very optimistic. Tfl found their trip computer was off by 3.5 mpg in one test.

  • @devengudinas1649
    @devengudinas1649 5 лет назад

    Do it again on 87. and next time break down the cost difference. Between 91. try to obey the speed limits maybe 2 to 5 over and see how it does. It’s not a wrx it’s a truck it’s going to take a while to get use to driving a bit slower. But it will definitely help the mileage
