I love how everything is attributed to S'Jet instead of the Hiigaran people. A character-focused messiah story is peak Homeworld.

Yeah that's something that gives me some hesitation with where they're gonna take the plot but we'll see.

@@fillianplays Well the game is out now and people did not like the character-focused aspects of the story.. as well as the cinematics.

@@Razgriz_01 Yeah, I just finished it. Absolutely hated the campaign plot for exactly the reasons discussed here.

Homeworld 3 is starting to look pretty great, I might have to go back and try playing the older Homeworld games again.

      Highly recommend. They’re pretty timeless.

men, the story is like you played the other two games before this 3rd game

This feels like a completely new invented story rather than a recap of the original games.

How so? I agree to some extent but curious to hear additional opinions.

@@fillianplays The trailer says Karan did this, did that, etc but she didn't do anything. She wasn't a person in Homeworld 1 and 2, once connected to the ship she was just the biomechanical computer for Fleet command. Didn't have a personality or desires of her own.
Also her ancestor didn't find a hyperdrive in the desert ruins while exploring. The ruins in the desert were found by a satellite instead and there they found a stone which detailed a journey to their home world.
Gearbox invented the whole ancestor backstory for their Deserts of Kharak game, which contradicts the intro cutscene of Homeworld 1.

      @@CommanderZx2 Yep. All fair points.

@@CommanderZx2 Blackbird, who has a bunch of Relic devs, made Deserts of Kharak. Gearbox published it which means they helped fund and ship the game, not write it. Marin Cirulis wrote the Homeworld 1's story and consulted on Deserts of Kharak. So whatever contradictions Deserts of Kharak introduced to that original text, the original writer and designers were fine with that.
And its not like real history isn't full of contradictory information either, yes? Deserts happening from the perspective of Rachel and the Homeworld 1 cinematic and Historical and Technical Briefing document happening from a different historian's perspective.
As for Karan, she was a person. In the Historical and Techincal Briefing book that came with Homeworld 1's original box release, you can read about her and how she determined they needed a person to be the core of the mothership. Transcribed here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=398955008 and quoted below for convenience:
"Karan Sjet, the only daughter of Huur Sjet-Sa and in direct line for the leadership of Kiith Sjet, was a neuroscientist in charge of the research division that was designing the command and control systems in the Mothership. Many other researchers would have balked at having to tell the entire world that its dream was impossible, but Karan was true to the spirit of her Kiith, and broke not only the news to the Daiamid, but also suggested a terrifying solution. Again, as a Sjet, she rejected fear in the face of the truth and demanded that her own system, using a living being as the command core for the Mothership, be applied to herself.
As our people are on the brink of a new voyage of discovery, it is only fitting that a Sjet is as the frontier, helping us satisfy our desire to know the truth and face down the terrors of the unknown, no matter the cost. "

Retcons happen all the time in fiction. Marvel/DC comics, Star Trek, D&D, etc
If the IP owner gives a different version of what they did, said in the past just assume it's a retcon and move on with your life. Makes things much easier.
