Hey @touristtolocal I just started watching your videos as my husband and I will be venturing to Cancun next year. I have been planning to rent a car and drive from Cancun to chichen itza and also go to xcaret Park. One of my friends who is an American and traveled to the Caribbean coast over there keeps instilling fear about being a tourist and alone in Mexico. I know you're both from the us or Mexico but do I really have to worry about this if it's from 1 tourist spot to another with minimal to no pit stops on the way? What have been your experience as a couple with this? I know we travel at our own risk but idk I'd like your opinion if you wouldn't mind. Thanks in advance
As a USA girlie married to a Mexican who has a place in Cancún I loved this video! So accurate to my time there, except now I have some new food spots to try while I’m there!!
Heading to Cancun later this year - we usually head to non-touristy areas, but friends are in Cancun so we're going to visit them and are scrambling for authentic ideas of food to eat and things to do - so this video is great, thanks!
I am so thankful to have stumbled upon your page while preparing for my trip to Cancun! I made some notes of what to explore and definitely had to come back to this video to let you know we tried El Pocito and it was one of the highlights of our trip! The food was delicious! I only know a little spanish, but thankfully our waitress had good english, so she was able to explain the different foods they had for the day. It was too late in the afternoon, so I was sad we missed the salbutes, but the cochinita pibil and relleno negro did not disappoint! I love getting to experience some of the local spots when traveling and this was it! One man even approached us to ask how we found it because he said he's never seen tourist there lol! Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you SO much for letting us know how your trip was! We are always so curious if people try out the places we recommend. So glad you loved El Pocito. We totally loved it and are glad it didn't disappoint. Cheers!
Thank you, y, gracias for this incredible view from a local and tourist perspective! Hopefully, we will get to experience a little of what you have shown us!
We live in New York and have never been to Cancun but are planning to visit after Labor Day. We have watched SO many videos on Cancun and this one was by far the best. Gracias Juliana y Martín!
That means so much to us. You have no idea. It's sometimes hard to know if what we are doing makes an impression on anyone, so we appreciate you taking the time to let us know your thoughts!
Very professional and informative! Loved it. Keep up the great work guys! I'll be visiting next month. The cool thing about the Riviera Maya is that there is sooo much to see that you would need multiple visits to be able to cover everything! I hope to see you guys come back for a second round.
Love these local tips. Have been to Mexico many times and love living more like a local. We're traveling to Cancun for the first time and was worried it would be too touristy. Glad to know I'll be able to get out and find a more local experience.
Loving your videos! They're very well done. We're off to Cancun for the first time in a couple of weeks and your videos have been so helpful. We're staying downtown and looking forward to checking out some of your recommendations!
Thanks a lot!! Very good Video and a lot of informations. This the kind of Video we need more of. Would you concider the Airbnbs safe in Cancun and Tulum?
Great video. Heading there in a couple weeks and was wondering about how careful we have to be about food? We want to try everything we can but don’t want to get sick. Any advice you could give would be amazing.
Thanks for watching! Our advice when it comes to food is go to places where there are crowds of people, that way you know it's good. Also, at taco stands, take note of how they handle transactions. If there is a separate person taking money than who is serving the food, it's much more sanitary. We didn't have any problems with getting sick this trip :)
Thank you so much for making this extremely informative video! We've been going back and forth on where to stay and I think this has helped me select the downtown area. Question about car rentals. I wanted to rent a car since we'll also be traveling to Playa Del Carmen and doing some of the excursions in that area. People, however, have told us that tourists who rent cars get stopped often by cops for bribes. I'm worried that would be a headache. What's your take on this? Thank you!
Happy to help! It is true that tourists who rent cars get stopped more often but we didn’t have any bad experiences or see anyone get stopped when we did this trip!
I was born in Merida, I've lived off and on in Merida and in Cancun. I lived in Cancun in the eighties and had not returned until 2003. My wife and I are talking about returning to the area for financial reasons, but with every year that goes by the idea sounds more and more crazy. We're not spring chickens anymore.
I lived in Cancun in the 80's, I ended up working as a tour Rep at Visusa S.A. Julio Chan ran the office. Worked with a great bunch of people a few I'm still in contact with. Any chance you know George Celis? Sure miss living there then, now Cancun seems to be a huge city, its not the paradise I remember anymore. I was born in Merida
@@TouristtoLocal Thank you for the feedback. I figured that, back then it was a transitional town, many came and went, the few who stayed did well with beach businesses, my small enterprise lasted about 4 months before the local beach mafia ran me out of business, hence my stint as a tour Rep.
Thank you guys so much for this Riviera Maya series! From all the places you visited there which two are a must? Between Riviera Maya and Punta Mita/Puerto Vallarta which one would you choose?
Happy to help! From all the places we visited, Holbox and Cozumel are a must. If we had to choose between the two, we'd still pick Puerto Vallarta. We love that city so much. Just a different vibe there. Feels more authentic.
Read in the news today about the issue between the Uber cabdrivers and the local cab drivers. Could you talk about the mode of transportation and best and safe choices available. TIA
Definitely avoid Ubers right now. You don’t want to get caught in any problems between the Uber drivers and taxi drivers! To be honest, we felt most comfortable on the public bus. Taxis were really expensive and felt like a rip off a lot of the time.
Great video, thanks for the insights, thanks! We are planning to rent a car as well in a few weeks. Any recommendations on rental car companies? People seem to keep talking about the scams...
Happy to hear you enjoyed our video! We'd totally recommend watching this video next for your purposes: ruclips.net/video/lzPJGa8RGr0/видео.html We dive a lot further into our rental car recommendations here :) Have a great trip!
hi, many countries are starting electronic travel authorisations etc like before arrival people need to get or do online authorization from immigration, does mexico have anything like that? it just got me worried. i know fmm forms are gone. anything latest updates?
Great video! Thank you for this. Would you recommend taking those buses (ADO or public transit) on a trip with 3 kids. We're going in spring and swapping houses with a local but still trying to decide on transportation. Kids are 2, 4, and 8. Thanks
How safe is it as an American with little Spanish to explore the downtown area, rent a car etc? Where do you keep your passport in the Airbnb? Is there usually a safe?
You can definitely get by without knowing Spanish. Renting a car is feasible, just be prepared that the driving here is pretty aggressive, but if you are used to driving in cities you shouldn't have any problems. We only take a copy of Juliana's passport when we are out. Most airbnbs won't have a safe, so just find a good hiding spot. Hope this helps!
Thank you for the very informative video! We will be on the Yucatán peninsula during our kids’ spring break for 10 days. We will arrive in Cancun late at night and start driving in a rental car to other destinations on the peninsula the next day. Would you recommend staying in the hotel zone or downtown in this case? This will be the only time we are in Cancun during this trip and I’m torn between staying in the hotel zone so we can see the beach at least a bit or staying downtown and skip the beach all together. We will be visiting Bacalar, Cozumel and lots of cenotes so this won’t be our only opportunity to play in the water.
That's a great question! If the prices aren't bad, we'd say go for the beach since it's quite stunning to wake up there on your first day. I remember as a kid arriving to Cancun in the night and waking up at the beach the next day and being so excited about our vacation :) However, if you plan to hit the road early in the morning the next day and prices at the beach are much higher, downtown should be fine! You'll get plenty of amazing beach opportunities at the places you're going.
I have seen a lot of Cancun videos but none really answer my question, would you as a first timer rent a. Are and trust that you would have cell signal from Cancun to the different cenotes? Or does this sound like trouble?
@@jamaicaboy544 : if you plan to eat at restaurants at the hotel zone for two, you'll need $200 per day. That's without drinks. The hotel zone has world-class restaurants, you get what you pay for. It's an unforgettable experience.
Hey guys! I'll be traveling to Cancun for the first time in May, my wife though, she is celiac (intolerant to gluten) which is not only wheat products, but also food with additives made from wheat, barley and rye. Do you happen to have a few options that we can take into account? we are probably renting a house for a week.
The good news is that a lot of mexican food is gluten free, since corn is the main ingredient of tortillas! Tacos, chilaquiles, salbutes, sopes, and anything else that uses a corn tortilla should be safe!
Technically only Mexican citizens can bring drones into Mexico and fly them. Martin is mexican, which is how we could fly here. However I will say, a lot of foreigners do still fly their drones here, but it's technically illegal.
Had a question about renting a car in our livestream and wanted to add more details here! We rented a car with Budget and had no issues with them pushing insurance on us. We have the collision/loss damage waiver covered by our credit card, and in the past, other brands like Europcar refused to take it and made us pay double the cost of the car we reserved. Budget did not do this. They accepted our credit card's coverage with no questions asked.
