@@thecarfiend11 You're the best. Do you still have the TL? I am planning about doing this in my car. My question is; how do you turn the tablet on and off?
Thanks for the kind words! Still have the TL indeed. Tablet turns off and on with "Timur's Kernel"s system. It automatically turns on when power is going through the micro-usb cable. I have that tapped in through the fuse box. Tablet doesn't really turn off, it goes to a low powered stand-by state to save battery. Goes to that mode when there's no power going through the micro-usb cable
@@thecarfiend11 Considering it's almost 2020. Do you think this holds up well to today's standards with all the technology that's available? I kind of gave up doing this set up. Is it worth it man I plan on doing a sound system probably only a box with 2 10"mids. Tweeters and 2 12"subs maybe separate from the OG sound system.
Me personally, I wouldn't do the mod now in 2019(2020) Double din radios have caught up and you can get a decent Android head unit for easy plug and play for a bit more cost than the Nexus 7 setup. I really don't like that the head unit would be in a very low location compared to the navi, but it's just how the car was made
Hey Man, Recently purchased a 06 Acura TL with 87k miles on it. Navi cd/rom drives seems to be the problems and don’t want to send to alpine to fix it for 360. Would you still recommend this set-up in 2020? To make the car look as stock as possible? The only two things I care about is the music (Spotify) and Navi really.. everything else is just extra to me!
Me personally, I wouldn't do it. It looks great and can work great. But 2 reasons why i wouldn't do it in 2020. (1) It's not plug and play. nothing is too difficult but it can get difficult if you run into issues while modding. (2) Double Din radios have stepped up there game. You can get something with Android Auto/ Apply Carplay and be done with little/no trouble, all plug and play (it just costs more)
I never saw your video before. Nice work! Dave's post on Acurazine is the best out there. I've been slowly working on my tablet modification for over a year now lol. I do not have Navi in mine, so I have been soldering like crazy to extend my HVAC and radio displays. I'm about finished with my soldering and am getting ready to mount the tablet. I originally wanted to stray away from using molding putty just in case I wanted to remove the tablet. How easily removable is it once it hardens? Is there any way you can remove the tablet and save the putty or no? I'm debating if I wanted to install some sort of hook mechanism as an alternative to keep the tablet in place.
If it wasn't for that write-up, I'd probably never do the Nexus 7 mod and got a double din head unit. Non Navi's are alot tougher, sorry bro. The putty was still soft after I let it harden for a a couple of days. But I don't know if it hardened more now that it's been in many heat/cold cycles. I'm going to have to remove that putty if the N7 ever dies. Seemed like it is easy to remove, it's not sticky material. It really does help with mounting and the table does not move at all. So i'd definitely recommend the putty over anything else, especially since its going to be in the car (alot more durable than 3m mounting tape, etc.) I don't think there's a way to save the putty. Once it hardens, it retains that shape
I'm in the process of gathering parts. I'm confused about the purpose of the aux from the bt45-hon3? Why don't you just connect the Nexus 7 to Bluetooth? I have an 08 TL, with the bt45-hon3 installed so I'm wondering if I have to wire an aux from my aux port to the the Nexus 7?
It is possible to connect the Nexus 7 to bluetooth. But the audio quality suffers. Just my preference. You can definitely try it out first before adding more into it.
you technically don't need it to control heat/AC. the TL uses the top, small screen on the top dash for most controls. shows fan speed, radio channel, stereo volume, small info like that. functions perfect for me
Yo use the bluetooth or the auxiliar from the tablet? I didn't understand how the audio pass to the Dac, ¿only With the usb power can pass the audio to? Tank you!!
in the write up it says you cant use the volume control switches or any of that with the 2013 version. were you able to get it to where all those functions still work?
You lose easy access to ALL the button on the tablet once installed. There is a way to create access to them (in case you have to hard reboot) but you have to create a notch in the navi bezel, near the vent ( I THINK??) BUT that's what the OS takes care of. TIMUR'S KERNEL alleviates that with touch controls for volume. Everything works as normal. I don't have to use the physical buttons on the nexus anymore and everything is controlled via touch or OEM radio buttons
Loving the setup and looking to do the same myself soon, but I have a question which I cannot find an answer. If swapping out the nav for the nexus tablet, how do you go about updating the time/clock on the display above?
funny enough, my clock is the wrong time now. Not sure if it was because I disconnected my battery at a weird time or what not. I do keep the Nav disk in the trunk at all times, even though I don't use it
@@thecarfiend11 quick couple questions, I believe I saw you mention the buttons still work on dash and steering wheel, is that right? Also, does the radio still work normally?
I made a Full Mod List video a few months back. I recommended NOT to do this mod in this day in age. For me, it has worked pretty well, but i still have issues. The Nexus 7 was a great to tablet, but is really outdated for todays specs. You can still do the mod, just dont have high expectations
I'm not sure. I haven't had a sub/amp setup in years. So that's out of my expertise. Audio out is basically a headphone jack, so it should in theory be easy
Not necessary, but it helps ALOT. If you mount it to replace the navi screen, and any issues occur where you need to reboot, then you don't need to pull it out to troubleshoot (specifically if it loses power and can't reach the power button, which happens often with me)
I mean for the setting on the tablet. How do I get it to power on by the cord. It just says charging when I plug in the charger. And how would I power off the tablet when it the car
It's pretty time consuming. Plus I wouldn't do it now, versus a few years ago. The nexus7 is pretty outdated. I'd rather get a good double din headunit
I have thought of that idea. But probably not. The Nexus 7 just BARELY clears the interior, and even then, you have to Dremel out a a little bit for it to sit flush
I wouldn't see why not, unless it's usb-C. I would definitely make sure all cables are compatible, too many 3rd party cables don't play nice or last long
Dude you are clutch! I've been dying to do this set up! You are a life saver!
Thanks man! I had to refer to the DIY guide alot, but it was all worth it

TheCarFiend any recommendations for our car?
I havnt bought any head units in a long time. But I would recommend going on Crutchfield.com ,they have tons of options and reviews
Where do you get the acura símbols for the sest belts? Whats tha name of it and where can i find them

hi mate been trying to find timur's Kernel where did you download it from
I followed that guide on acurazine.com. I remember the post had a link to it
Your steering wheel controls and stock bass still work ok after this install?
They still work like oem. Volume buttons work the same. Channel button changes the track, if I connect thru bluetooth.

Or does it have to be rooted and put in a kernel app

terrell rogers same I wanna update with a nice setup lmk if find something

Is the BT necessary?
No. It's not. But some type of AUX is needed. The BT-HON device happen to have both AUX and BT, that's why I opted to use it
How do i add the layouts like that
The layout is actually a background photo, made to look like a layout. I used photoshop for all the lettering and icons
TheCarFiend thanks got
It to work do you have a instagram where i can hit you up at to ask some questions see if u can help me real quick

You should do apple carplay!
I have Android Auto haha
mad work not worth it right
Very time consuming for the first time installer. I can probably do it alot faster now. The hardest part is the navi screen removal and tablet install
